Gotta be honest, I genuinely may have been off with Othmann. Don’t get me wrong I don’t all of a sudden love him but I didn’t see this at all in his draft year. Not even in the OHL. Really liked what I saw through the WJC. Elevates his physicality when it matters. Jiricek is a big boy that is physically imposing. Othmann completely crushing him twice raised my eyebrows

5'8" Logan Stankoven causing a turnover with a hit on 6'3" David Jiříček that leads to the goal.

Size is overrated.
Stankoven is almost identical to Gerbe. I don’t think he’s an impactful NHLer but I think he’ll be a tweener for a while

Give you a lot of credit for revising your view. I don't think many people do that.

Kalle looking pretty good in the third vs Sweden. Should have had an assist and close to scoring a goal on a beautiful move.

If you consider giving up a one timer from below the goal line into the slot labeled top cheddar and a cross ice redirection in the crease brutal then yes, it was historically brutal.

Garand is by far our best prospect and he has looked way shakier than any of us anticipated. Thanks Gorton.

He isn't our best prospect, not even close. And I don't think any of us aside from you think he has underperformed. You just have been overrating him and now you are seeing he isn't the next Henrik Lundqvist so you're disappointed.

What in tarnation? This is like @Uninstaaled praising Lundkvist or me bashing Kravtsov

I hate to see that slew foot, but I agree with this general sentiment fully.

Literally EVERY fanbase cries about how bad the DoPS is. The owner of an original 6 team who earns one of the highest revenues for the league calls for the head of the DoPS. Sure it was worded kinda cringy, but thats a big deal and pretty unprecedented in the entire sports world.

Literally everyone laughed at the Rangers and their fans and they get fined to boot.

So f*** it, that's the brand of hockey people want. Embrace it. Rather be the villains than the punching bag crying about the DoPS only to get laughed at.
I don’t agree with the ‘stoop to their level’ approach but I do understand it. If that makes sense. Viscerally it’s very satisfying, too.

What’s his story ? When can he come to the AHL?
I think the rule is, since he wasn't picked in the first round, he has to either be 22 or out of contract/released by his Liiga club if he is to play in the AHL. I don't know what his contract status is but he's obviously under contract for this season, as he's expected to spend the whole year with TPS.

He's a big, lanky kid who, if he fills out, should be a load to handle. Skates pretty well, moves the puck around nicely. I like him as a longshot prospect, but he is still really raw and needs a lot more time.

Garand is maybe like their 6th best prospect. WJCs is a very high flying tournament so it's not really the be all end all.

The read on Garand always was very solid but plays for a stacked team. Needs a lot of work and gets better with more shots faced.

No one is expecting him to turn into another Lundqvist or Shesterkin, at best he is a low end solid #1 and at worst an ECHL goalie. The reality is somewhere in between. The hope is he becomes Igor's backup on an ELC as soon as end of this season but more realistically next fall or fall 2024 so they can allocate cash to other areas.

So we have 2 of the Top 5 most penalized players in the WJC (including #2), and 4 of the Top 10

Garand is going to be the next talbot where he crushes it here as a back up and goes on to start elsewhere and does well.

Bucket!
Garand strikes me as one of those prototypical solid goalies that will never cost as much as Hank or Shesty and can end up backstopping a Stanley Cup winner because he's only making 5m/year.

Well Halak makes too much for next year so if he’s good he needs to take less

Domingue is the new Kinkaid

Garand is ideally ready in a year but it usually takes a G longer
