This team and it’s players have been subjected to dirty plays like that for an eternity, it’s about time they embrace being the villains, we’re always told it’s hockey and shit happens when we’re on the receiving end repeatedly so if we end up with an NHL squad of guys who establish they aren’t to be f***ed with then I say it’s about damn time

There were a few things that made the US team vulnerable.

While that first line buzzed against most competition, they weren't necessarily elite. Compared to Canada's team who had Kent Johnson, Mactavish and Bedard, the US team was a few levels below that. I'm not sure there was a single US forward that I think is a sure fire future NHL first line player. Even Knies strikes me as a middle six forward at best and he was like there most skilled forward.

But the biggest issue facing the US team was their size. Compared to the other teams in the tournament they were small. The Czechs had a huge advantage in that dept and took away time and space when they got the lead. You could see the US team getting frustrated and also banged up throughout the game. The US team hadn't really played from behind and against a much more stout team it was their achilles heel.

The Berard penalty, as stupid and bad as it was, was a real indication with just how frustrated the US team was. They just couldn't do much once they went down. Of course, Hughes getting banged up really hurt them as it basically took away their most skilled player.

Point being it was not the most well constructed team. Though, there's only so many options year in and year out when picking an age-specific squad.
I think this sums it up pretty good. It was not the strongest group for the US for sure. They should have probably won this game, however, I don't think would have won the next no matter what.

I actually like Leaman as a coach and think he has been our best world juniors coach in a long time. If you swap him with Cameron from Canada, US easily loses more games. Give Leaman Canada's roster and I think they cruise to a title without any problems.

Also, Leaman led the US to gold at the previous WJC

I hate to see that slew foot, but I agree with this general sentiment fully.

Literally EVERY fanbase cries about how bad the DoPS is. The owner of an original 6 team who earns one of the highest revenues for the league calls for the head of the DoPS. Sure it was worded kinda cringy, but thats a big deal and pretty unprecedented in the entire sports world.

Literally everyone laughed at the Rangers and their fans and they get fined to boot.

So f*** it, that's the brand of hockey people want. Embrace it. Rather be the villains than the punching bag crying about the DoPS only to get laughed at.

USA G Mbereko had a strong tournament until Czech game, but didn't have the credentials or reputation of other Gs in tournament, or prior USA teams.
Btw he was teammate last year in Lincoln, and will be for season(s) to come, at CC, w Laba

Cameron is lost.

If you look at Cameron's coaching resume, it appears Canada couldn't find anyone to take the job. He breaks up McTavish and Bedard. Is he worried about matching lines with the Czechs? Is an 18 year old Jagr playing for the Czechs in this tournament?

i think its just a strange coincidence

I would clone Nils 8 times and trade him and his 8 counterparts for Stankhoven.
we don't draft these kinds of players.

I do remember @AmazingKreiderman beating the drum for Stankoven during the draft but thats probably just because he's dutch lol/

A solid one shift for Othmann in the 2nd there lol
Missed most of the game, but did see a shift he took where he basically smashed 2-3 Czech players in the same 30 seconds. Man, when he hits people do they feel it. Unreal how big the hits are because it's not like he's taking 3 strides at full speed and mashing them. He's just solidly hitting them and catching them perfectly. I don't think the Rangers have had a forward like that in a very long time. Adam Graves and Messier had that ability to catch guys and not be too late like Reaves.

If there's been one consistent positive throughout the tournament it's been Othmann. Garand's been solid overall -- one of the best goalies in the tournament. Cuylle's been decent but he does leave me wanting a bit more. He's decent passer, decent speed, pretty good PKer and plays a conservative game. But I'd like to see him take the body more. I wish he had a tad more anticipation in his game. He's been fine, but I'd the Tom Wilson comparison is far more apt for Othmann than Cuylle.

Yeah, that was his one shift where he came in and leveled two guys and then skated off. He had a few more hits in the 1st period too. He's certainly making the most of his ice time, and/or taking it out on the Czech's.

5'8" Logan Stankoven causing a turnover with a hit on 6'3" David Jiříček that leads to the goal.

Size is overrated.
