Thanks to this board for telling me who won as classy ESPN dropped this trivial game for a critical Ole Miss/Alabama football game. It was a great game to watch (if not the best played) and I was ready for the overtime. I waited, figuring that for some reason those dolts were showing us the football instead of discussing the game or showing highlights and the football droned on and on; I was afraid to leave in case the game came back on.

Sure I'm thrilled that Canada won (although Czechs deserved the win based on their play) and I will have another game to watch Tuesday before the great silence (unless ESPN cuts away to poker) but the contempt for hockey, the hockey fan, and the viewer in general was disgusting.

Can someone please describe the winning goal in some detail as I was unable to see it.

#%&$ ESPN.

Yah and if Barry Melrose is watching, he (Luongo) is no Mikka Kiprusoff. Can't believe he said all three Canadian minders are "much better" than Kipper. What an ass. Brodeur is the class of the NHL for sure but the others are not clearly better than Kipper.

Anyway, I don't see how Finland is going to beat Canada; they don't have nearly the offensive firepower the Czechs have. The D will be comparable though. This was the game of the tournament IMO. The game of the last several tournaments actually, Olympic included. Awesome stuff.

Congrats to Canada and all you Canucks going ape-sh*t right now. Must be nice. :)

Luongo and Theodore are clearly better the Kipper.....anyways. Go Canada

YES! Canada was outplayed for most of the game, but found a way to win. Luongo was incredible, as was the grind line. I think Thornton played his strongest game of the tournament so far, amazing checking, in on the 1st goal, and helped shut down Jagr.

I thought the Thornton line was really the only ones playing good defence consisently that game. Lecavalier's line may have scored that OT goal, but they were pretty bad defensively all game and even on that exact shift the OT goal was scored.

There going to have to pick it up defensively if they want to win against the Finn's. They will be forechecking hard on Canada all night long...

Funny how Lecavalier was "a bust" at 22, a bonafide star (and Cup winner) today. ;)

Great goalies aren't made on GAA average or sv %. They are made on making the big save when it has to be made. Even if they were shaky for the previous 60 minutes. As in: Luongo's stop moments before Lecavalier's goal.

The Czechs paid a great tribute to Hlinka with their play.

Gotta agree with the description of Vinny. The guy has really turned his game around the last 2 years and has become the bonafide star. Torts has helped mold him into that player. He should be next to Brodeur when it comes to MVP of the tourney for Canada. Mario and Iginla have the names but they dont have the production (outside of one game they havent done much) that Lecavalier has this tourney. And just 4 months ago he wasnt even on the team.

Luongo did allow some questionable goals (the 1st one may have been stoppable) but he came through with some big saves down the stretch. Thats what a goalie needs to do. Doesnt have my billing as a money goalie yet but if he comes up big like he did tonight down the stretch in big games then he'll get it.

Great effort by the Czechs tonight. They played their hearts out and almost won this game. Great game overall. :yo:

My thoughts so far:

1) Canada is being humbled tonight. No chance this game should still be going on.

Really why not: do you really think Canada is THAT much better than the Czechs...I don't and tonight proved it...Great freaking game though!!!! real hockey great intensity...

Actually, I think the Czechs were the second best team in the tourney and very close to Canada, but totally dominated Canada tonight. My point of saying this game shouldn't be going on was the Czechs should have won it in regulation.

He's no Martin Brodeur. Not even close.

Haha...Luongo played great. I'm glad Canada won, especially after seeing your lame prediction :) Someone sounds bitter!

Go Canada Go!

Lecavlier from Smyth in OT.

Could be the defining moment of the tournament.

Unless, of course, the final is even better.

Great hockey tonight. I'm hoping for the same on Tuesday.

I can't believe people are saying Luongo played great. We're just not watching the same game. I'm pretty confident that with Brodeur this game would have never went to OT.

agreed.

Thank you Luongo!

The guy made some increadibly key saves!

He made one with the pads stacked in the 3rd that was just amazing.

And then in OT, where he made a great save coming across to his glove side and making a blocker save. After that amazing save Canada went down the ice and scored!

Luongo didn't give up any bad goals. The 2 "questionalbe" goals were tips. CBC showed a replay during the intermission that clearly showed the 3rd goal was a redirect.

Lecavalier will be remembered in 10 years but I'll remember Luongo's save at the other end! :handclap:

Great win!

Yup saw that as well, the Canadian defense should have cleared the puck out of the zone on that 3rd goal before Elias even touched it.

the american team isn't close to as good as the czechs and i'm an american...and nor do I think Esche is as good as Vokoun. Esche was incredible with the defense he had in front of him..but the Czechs defense is better. And yes, I saw what Canada did to the Americans...they won by one goal. I just hope you're not looking past this game, because I think that if Canada wins this..it will be by squeaking by.

How true this turned out to be... :handclap:

ESPN dropped this game? I don't know... I they showed it here in MASS...It's probably your local company did it.

ESPN is a collection of jackasses. They just interrupted the Ole Miss/'Bama game to show the highlight. Then the color guy makes a sarcastic comment, "And next we're going to show some soccer tournament coverage." What an ass!

Holy crap what a game. When Lacavalier was coming into the Czech zone in OT and the idiot who stood right in front of the camera came I was like MOVE YOU ****** DAMMIT.

I can't believe Canada won. I won't complain, but these guys should run off into the night :)

And is it just me, or did Lecavalier's goal just make him the frontrunner for MVP?
