I hate ESPN sometimes....One of the best hockey games I have ever SEEN, and a monumental one at that heading into OT in the World Cup...and they cut it off to show me two unranked unimportant College football teams...

Actually it has to do with your cable company. I had directv and saw it while Sotnos had cable and wasnt able to see it. Dont if its satelite or cable but I got the game on espn2 and sotnos didnt. So in this case it isnt espns fault.

Czech deserved this one...they played a hell of a lot better than Canada. Great saves by Loungo kept them in it..

At least the fans wont be so cocky now....that was a hard fought game. I think the Czech were the second best team in the tournament. I dont think Finland will beat canada.

Finland already beat the Czechs 4-0. Enough said

And of course beating Canada will be very hard, but if they play like today Finland has a big chance. Finland was defending much better as a team yesterday than what we saw from both of the teams today.

All I can say is, Canada will be in trouble against Finland if they don't get better goaltending from whoever is in net. Finland will play a more disciplined defensive game, they certainly won't be trading chances like the Czechs did today.

In his entire NHL career, Gretzky never took the body as forcefully as he did on Lowe up on luxury box when Lecavalier scored. :)

Funny how Lecavalier was "a bust" at 22, a bonafide star (and Cup winner) today. ;)

A great goalie isn't made on GAA average or sv %. He is made on making the big save when it has to be made...and giving his team a chance to win. Even if he wasn't at his best for the previous 60 minutes. As in: Luongo's stop moments before Lecavalier's goal.

The Czechs paid a great tribute to Hlinka with their play.

Luongo played a strong game. Good for him for holding in there while the rest of Canada decided to stop playing hockey.

That explains everything. This is the worst game Canada has played in this tournament (BY FAR), and Luongo still managed to get the win for Canada (who as I said earlier DID NOT deserve to win).

And now Canada prays for Brodeur's recovery.

:dunno: It's not that important, the defense and forwards are the ones who we need to worry about after tonight, not the goaltending. An effort like Luongo's tonight Was more than satisfactory, in fact it was brilliant. Definitely good enough.

Was that a gigantic sigh of relief from the NHL and NHLPA's headquarters I heard all the way to Norway? Guess Finland - Czech Republic wouldn't be a dream matchup in the finals...

Anyway, great game. Atrocious refereeing. The second best team won. Congratulations to Canada.... and GO FINLAND! HYVÄÄ SUOUMI!!!!

Congrats to Canada! I'm looking forward to the final. And kudos to the Czech team. They outplayed Canada for large parts of the game. I wasn't sure which team I wanted to win. The Czechs looked scary but Canada has the refs ;)

I think the final will be much more defensive with tighter checking and zone control.

If they can keep Canada at bay and survive the first period, then yes they have a chance. Problem with Finland is they dont have enough pure scorers. But I guess anything can happen in one game.

Exciting game. Best line had to be the checking line, neutralizing Jagr and processing four points as well (Draper 1g, 1a, Thornton 2a.) Doan played like he always does, giving crushing hits and playing well. Lecavalier had a good game, great goal.

Give the Czechs credit. They had a great game plan, executed it well and didn't quit when they easily could have. Phew. Canada scored 2 goals at the end of shifts where they ran around in their own end. It'll take a long time for Luongo to be mentionned with Brodeur, but he made the save in ot when it was needed.

My PRE-tourney prediction still stands: Canada over Finland 4-1 in the Final.

Any one else on record with picking the final before the tourney began?

Time for some champagne. :win:

Finland definitely has a big chance. I sure hope fellow Canadian fans arent cocky about it :shakehead We barely snuck by with this game here, so enough of that anthem thread bull****.

I think im crying tears of joy, what an unbelievable game.
One of the best I'v eseen for sure.
Luongo came up big on Hejduk and Roberto gave the team the boost they needed to get it doen.
I feel bad for the Finns!!!!

19, your guy played an excellent 2 way game. Enjoy it, you won't hear that often from a Hab fan.

The third period was a disgrace and - regardless of the OT goal - Lecavalier took a stupid penalty that allowed a penalty and almost cost Canada the game. The penalty will be lost on the score sheet and the goal will be permanent WCH04 highlight reel material but regardless Lecavalier has shown me again that he is a reckless, undisciplined player that cares nothing for team play.

I'm proud of my boys but the last half hour or so of play was a sad, sorry showing. The Finns won't be beat with that walk-in-the-park attitude, I assure you.

Im glad you understand that...It is just one game, and sometimes all it takes is one goal. And often those kind of goals are not even scored by "pure goal scorers" but guys like Draper or Jarkko Ruutu, puck bouncing from their ass and ending up in the net.

Of course Canada is a big favourite, but they were that today too and nobody can say they were in control.

Thank you Luongo!

The guy made some increadibly key saves!

He made one with the pads stacked in the 3rd that was just amazing.

And then in OT, where he made a great save coming across to his glove side and making a blocker save. After that amazing save Canada went down the ice and scored!

Luongo didn't give up any bad goals. The 2 "questionalbe" goals were tips. CBC showed a replay during the intermission that clearly showed the 3rd goal was a redirect.

Lecavalier will be remembered in 10 years but I'll remember Luongo's save at the other end! :handclap:

Great win!
