The NHL should do a 1997 alumni Avs vs Wings series… just watched E60 Unrivalled. That would be so much better than watching the gimmick of the last World Cup.

Or do a Canada vs USA best of 7. And Sweden vs Finland best of 7… heck, do a France vs England best of 7…. That’d be sooo much better than a U23 NA team and team Europe, #joke

A best of 7 series alternating 2-3-2 with both countries hosting games would actually be able to sell out all games. The fans would actually be invested into it and make the atmosphere very lively. With the current format only the host team and neighboring countries' games would sell out.

I think a USA vs. Canada Summit Style Series would be a big hit.

Sweden-Finland can set up their own thing if they want, but outside the bounds of the NHL since NHL is a North American league (same with Czech-Slovakia, Switzerland-Germany, etc. etc. etc.)

Except Russia is Canada's biggest rival.
Historically, yeah, but Russia is banned from IIHF, and USA-Canada have had an intense rivalry at the junior level for a long time (due to sharing a border, there's lots of familiarity amongst players as well).

International hockey is some of the greatest hockey we have ever experienced. Why do you hate hockey so much?
Preferring NHL to international hockey doesn't mean they "hate" hockey.

Saying NHLers should never have the opportunity to represent their country in best-on-best international hockey, is hating hockey.

Away with these gimmick tournaments. Give me best-on-best. We haven't had one since 2014 and I'm pissed off we wasted any opportunity for prime Crosby and McDavid to play together.

It's just their opinion, some don't like the disruption to the club season.

If they do it right it'll become something that more people will watch and more players will grow to respect. Having 8 years and then 12 years and then 8 years again between tournaments isn't going to garner the prestige that it could.

The Canada cup had prestige around it and so did the 96 World Cup, but then they ruined it by not being consistent

Take the gimmicks out and get it to be a more regular tournament and there could be a good entertainment value that is respected.

I thought Team Europe and Team NA were pretty hokey at first, but I gotta say, they ended up being very fun and entertaining. I wouldn't be opposed to similar teams returning (I know the NHL said they won't be though).

Finally some real national team action. Let's get on with it.

If team NA returns the whole tournament is a sham.

If the players care about it and make it competitive I dont see any negative to this. Best on best competitive hockey is really what everybody loves to see.

"commit to the Olympics, subject to acceptable terms"

so no commitment then, lol
That's some smart drafting though, especially since the terms in the most recent Olympics were really not very acceptable (players had to stay and quarantine in China for 3-5 weeks if they tested positive for Covid).

I don't put much emphasis on where people are from. so honestly, a team of people from Sweden of any age and a team of people from North America under 23 (or whatever it was) feel just as random.

I enjoyed the Summit Series in 72 and the 76 Canada Cup to a lesser degree but these days, this international nonsense just happens way too often -- maybe if they only played a big international tourney once every ten years it might mean something.

Also, I really find it hard to have much interest in a team thrown together for a few weeks to play in a short tournament.
