By then I believe the Russian special operation will be over, and Russia should be allowed to resume competing In hockey in any international event. Not even sure why Russian hockey is being politicised in the 1st place. The players have nothing to do with the war. What a load of horse shit. Even if it’s not done by than they should be allowed to compete.

Because they themselves politicized sport. They have nobody to blame but themselves. They should have been banned in 2014, but thankfully we are here now, finally. bans are wholly justified. We need to do more.

Noooo…
Uncle Vova uses sports as propaganda. Big time. The hockey federation is drenched with Putin lackeys.

But banning Russia is 100x more political than Russian hockey itself is political. Banning countries is the attempt to directly alter another country’s policies via sport. It takes the politicization of sport to an whole different level, outdoing even Putin’s twisted view of what sports should be.

Russia would likely be banned if our hockey wasn't political, and players voiced displeasure with war.
The ban is just another version of the sanctions the West has levied upon the country.

If Russian hockey wasn't political and if the players were against the war there would be no reason to not to grant them an autonomous position for example similar to the Olympic refugee teams with athletes from countries like Syria.

Best on best tournies are always fun. But this is a sham compared to the Olympics. A whole generation of great Hockey moments being stolen cause of Bettman incompetence.

Bettman sucks. We have not had Olympics in ages, we have a team playing in a 2000 person arena, many small market teams rely on subsidies/revenue sharing, and advertising is going on jerseys so teams can pay the bills.

All fans should hate this guy. Owners should to as a competent commissioner would grow the game/revenues more.

The least of russians living in russia's worries right now should be playing ice hockey lol

Nobody in the United States watches the sport brother how is that solely on bettmans shoulders?

Literally it is Bettman’s job to grow the game in the USA. His main strategy of “try to pretend hockey is basketball” is not working.

IIHF board member Heikki Hietanen: no cause to change stance by the IIHF and Finnish hockey association on Russian teams being banned, no advancement in talk between IIHF and HNL over arrangements of a World Cup tournament.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Even KHL is ran by the circle of Putin's friends, sports and especially hockey in Russia is big part of politics. Also i'm sure it's a coincidence that Putin has used guys like Ovechkin to promote him. Sports is the only thing Russia is somewhat compatible with the big countries in the world.

So what if they are ran by his friends ? What does that have to do with anything ? You have no clue what you are talking about.

Even if you wish to ignore all moral aspects altogether there are significant legal ones as well, many of these individuals are sanctioned by the United States government or other relevant entities making transactions with them illegal.

Don’t mind that poster, he/she’s a bit…special.

Btw, good on the Czechs for not allowing Russian players in their country, hoping Sweden does something similar soon, and that includes not giving Russian citizens tourist visas

Many people have criticized paid patriotism in the NHL and other sports, for sure there are people that have stayed home because of it. But for teams it has been a low-hanging fruit.
