It might be better to get Switzerland than Japan for Finland as the QF opponent. Japan seems pretty good and I think that Finland would beat SUI in a rematch.

Commentator now said 3 goal win is needed. It's probably that. Maybe who scored more goals if goal difference is tied (between SUI, ROC, FIN) or something like that.
True, i actually misread the information. In fact Finland needs a 3 goal win. My bad!

Edit: Actually it's a bit more confusing. If Finland wins with two goals and scores 4 goals or more, Finland will still finish third.

So why arent russians wearing mask but finns are? And how the f*** thats not penalty...

This game is heading for a Finland 3 goal margin win, but I really got my doubts if it's a smart thing to do to get Japan over Switzerland in the QF match.

Actually it's so confusing i got it right the first time. Finland needs a three goal win and im dumb :DDD

Yeah I think you meant that but said it in a bit confusing way in the first post.
Yeah, the mistake i made was that i thought Finland scored three goals vs Switzerland instead of the two, which sent my brain spiraling out of control. Well, happy to get that sorted out!

RIP to the Czech's. They played well against Japan, but they couldn't handle Japan's PP. I wish both teams got to face SUI/FIN/ROC, but unfortunately that's not how things work. Hopefully neither team gets slaughtered in their next game.

Japan truly is a one line team with Toko, Shiga, and Ukita (over 26 minutes each). Playing them on the PK too definitely shows a lack of depth for Japan. They were once again gassed at the end of the game.

Some head scratching decisions on the back end for Japan. They seem to refuse to go D to D on the outlet and instead forced several pucks around the boards leading to extended zone time for the Czech's. They should've made the Czech's chase instead of taking everything to a board battle, which is a lost cause given their size. They also look like they don't even know how 3 on 3 works. Several forced passes and dump ins when possession is the most important part of 3 on 3. What is the head coach of Japan even teaching these women? This is basic stuff.
Agree with everything but the only Czech goals were flukey. They shut it down! A magical knucklepuck and a reviewable play IMO on our other goal. They were definitely gassed and I've never seen a team purposely freeze pucks in 3 on 3. However, that was on the Czechs to counter that and they missed a lot of glorious chances.

I do think, now that I've really looked into the women's game that they need 2 pools. The strong pool still has blowouts and 3 to 9 seem pretty even. Happy for Japan. It wasn't lost on me that the greatest Czech victory was in Japan and now they took us out. Good for the sport. I think they'll have a close game with one of the 3. Czechs are going to get bombed right out the tourney. Shame as I liked their team, coach and everything to be honest. It's not like the men's team which is already giving me a headache and they haven't played a game yet.haha

4-0 now and looks like the team is out of the slump.

Why are they challenging that? Don't they have a pad on their bench. The puck went in off the Russian player's glove. And they got a penalty for it. And 5-0 on the powerplay.

Help me.. what are the FInn's trying to avoid with a 3 goal win?
If Finland wins Russia by three goals or more, they'll be 3rd in Group A (so... right where they were predicted to be despite being really, really underwhelming before now) and get to play Group B winner in the QF. Win by less or lose, and they get Switzerland - which some of us here apparently would prefer.

Indeed. Japan scares me. I'm scared of the unknown. Finland knows Switzerland well now and I think that they would beat them in a rematch with that motivation of losing the last game, despite of Finland being the dominant team in that game. In my opinion for some time the refs lost it a bit in the Switzerland game with the penalty calls. The too many players on ice calls were quite justified though, I'm not talking about those.

Yep, since Wickenheiser declined it’s been Poulin. Probably around 2013-2014. By 2025 it’s likely Fillier though.

Exactly my thoughts as well.

Pretty much since around 2014, Poulin has been the best female player in the world.

Fillier definitely seems poised to take that title in the next few years. She has some serious skill and is a fantastic skater.

Good game, Canada. Well deserved. Excellent performance by your goalie and nice shot blocking. Hope to see you again in the gold medal game.

The Americans played very well, it’s always good hockey when these two get together.

Clearly the two best female hockey nations in the world, hopefully the Gold medal game is another classic should everything play out the way it’s expected.

I thought Finland wearing the N95 masks would balance the matchup more, but apparently not.

It would've been funny to see some "chin diapers" to quote South Park series.

I mean sports + close to air tight mask should be a health risk itself, but I guess that their masks aren't air tight or not properly placed on their faces. That's why Finland is able to play well here. We are humans, we need air, we don't need asthma.

I haven't been able to follow these games, just read how Finland has lost first three games. Who will we face after beating Russia? We will be third in the group?

Unbelievable. Linesman called too many men on ice AGAIN when goalie was pulled in Denmark vs Sweden. Second time this mistake happens already in the tournament.

Finland will get Japan unless ROC scores 3 goals in 6 mins now. If ROC does scores 3, then it will be FIN-SUI.

I hate to say it but women refs got a bit to improve .

That should have been a penalty. Denmark had 6 skaters on the ice long before their goalie had left the ice.
