Who said I'm ignoring it?

Are you hearing voices??

Fact of the matter is, if Downie wouldnt have touched JJ entering the offensive zone, JJ probably wouldnt have even realized he was there.

Well the fact that you didn't respond to the other post made about the tap gave me the impression that you were ignoring it altogether.

And another fact of the matter is that Dwnie wouldn't have touched JJ entering the offensive zone if JJ didn't do the same to Downie just before.

I know JJ was probably the most pissed off in his life a tap doesn't warrant you skating back to a player and elbowing him in the face, even a shove or a fight would have been better as Downie could have actually defended himself.

Exactly. I don't think they're trying to make anti-semetic remarks, they're booing a team. You said it nicely, its just like Edmonton chanting Calgary sucks... and I have no problem with it. Heck, I've been to almost every single Flames game in Edmonton (I live in Edmonton) and understand it. Rush5Collapse ect, buy a clue. Your taking it way too personally.

One thing is different. Your not saying a team sucks your saying USA A COUNTRY SUCKS.
I agree. I"m not sure what the big deal is. I'm not going to make things seem rosey. I loved the elbow. I know Downie's history

It is so obvious that Canada hates the USA and honeslty I lump Canada in with the French and hate them as much.

R you his agent or something? I cant believe you are saying that about Parent... he has been average this tourney at best

He was, by far, the best Canadian defender tonight.

But man...Latendresse has looked unstoppable! And Carey Price...a rock!

Those two guys have really lifted the team, wishing them well from the bench and...home.

Oh I concur, the elbow was incredibly terrible. I saw tiny horns poking out of JJ's helmet, flames in his eyes and he was foaming at the mouth at the point of contact between his elbow and Downie's Jaw.

Guy got his elbow up to send a message.

Fin.

Whats that message? Hey team I took a selfish penalty that might kick me out of the tournament and cost us a chance at gold?

Like the toughness
Disliked the intelligence

Parent had a hell of a game shutting down the American forwards.

I wouldn't call him Adam Foote at this point, but it seems to be around the same style of game.

I'm not saying it's okay by any stretch of the imagination, but if Downie's name is Darcy Tucker and I'm an Isles fan, I'm snickering for the rest of the night.

Really, it's all about perspective.

I wonder what your stance was when Bertuzzi suckerpunched Moore, considering Moore wasn't exactly an angel during his career. Did you snicker?

There is no excusing a play that is intended to injure, regardless of "perspective".

as long as Johnson is prepared to sit a game or two.

An elbow to the chin is escalating it a bit over the nothing slashes to the shin pads they were giving each other.

I'll take Johnson on my team anyday, but he should be gone for a few games. Just a dumb play on his part.
Agree :handclap:

I'm in the same boat. Maybe I sympathize because Downie is a Flyers prospect, but anyone who wants to blame Downie for Jack Johnson throwing a cheap shot on him is profoundly absurd

The reason for non blaming Downie is not because Downie's a Flyer prospect, it's simply due to common sense. :teach: :D

No no, its just you.

Get over it. I'm doing you a favour by givin gyou that advice.

Oh thanks, but you may want to remind your own peeps -

Canadian fans reactions to US chants and boos at WJHC:

QUOTE
"Why are we canadians so insecure when it comes to hockey? We get so venomous and cocky against other teams when they do well, because it somehow challenges our national identity in some twisted way. Grow up! Canada is a great country that is more than hockey. Sure, hockey is a big part, but we have so many other positives that define us as a country. So, quit whining when another team does bad, and quit being idiots when other teams lose. It just makes us look the fool."

QUOTE
"I am a Canadian first and foremost, and while the USA is a good place to visit, I would not want to live there. However, the ignorence of the WJHC fans in Vancouver is getting out of hand. Cheer for the opposition in games involving Americans, but leave out the chants of U.S. Sucks and the like."

QUOTE
"Truly sad and embarrassing sportsmanship by Canadians. I would love to see coverage by Canadian press outlets if this crowd behavior had been reversed last year here in Grand Forks, ND with booing of the Canadian players and chanting Canada sucks. Why is it that the Canadian press is just letting this slide?? I have an American father and Canadian mother and I spend much time in both countries and I am frankly appalled and embarrassed by the actions of the fans in Vancouver. Nice, real nice message you're sending to the younger fans and players watching at the rink and on t.v. there."

QUOTE
"As revolting as the chants of "U.S Sucks" were, and they were shameful, the thing that really got me was the booing of the USA anthem and the player of the game. Are you ignorant people that disappointed with your own lives that you have to berate a kid that just won a great personal honour. I'm a canadian through and through and I never thought I would be ashamed of that, well done "fans", you accomplished the impossible for me, Im now deeply ashamed. Let's try and keep it to just " GO CANADA GO" today, and pretend we have class.."

And if the Americans lose to the Czechs or Sweden because Eric Johnson has to get run all over the ice because the rest of the American d-corps are soft and slow and undermanned, who gets the fingers pointed at? Meanwhile, the Americans get to watch the semifinals on tv

The selection committee for selecting a soft and slow team?

Oh get over it.
I have met very, very few Canadians who "hate the US", so get off of the paranoia.
The Canadians fans were saying that the opposing team sucks, just like they do in any other passionate hockey game.
If you want to waste your time hating the French and Canada, well, that's your perogative.

You want to make a racial slur and get strike three?

Wrong. We are saying USA the HOCKEY TEAM sucks. I'm sure there's a little bit of softwood lumber dispute thinking there too but it's geared toward getting the other team off their game. Shoud all Calgary fans say that Edmonton isn't just saying their team the Flames suck, but that the city of Calgary sucks? By your logic, yes. So then they are the same situations either way!

I can't stand Downie and think he's a little ***** but you loved the elbow? That says enough about you right there. Applauding an intent to injure. :shakehead

Thanks for making a ridiculous judgement about an entire country. Ask anyone in Canada, I bet you'll find very few people that hate the US. You are doing exactly what you accuse Canadians of doing. :shakehead

Just like to re-state that if the situations were reversed (i.e. Canada needs a win not a tie) and the US is about to get the empty netter, I'm not surprised if Downie throws a 'bow like that.

He's not exactly known for diplomacy on the ice.
Nope, but even so, thats no excuse for what J Johnson did.

A few comments about the game, great officiating for the most part, Parent DEFINETLY should have had a cross-checking penalty one time there when one canadian penalty was ending, the US could have had a high-stick/boarding penalty on Boyd I believe, but I was glad the ref let it go, nobody got hurt, and it all came out in the wash.

JJ should be gone for the tourney, no doubt about that, he blatantly tried to seriously injure Downie AFTER the whistle, AND the game was done.

Great game, lived up to the expectations.

I recall an instance when Tie Domi took it upon himself to sucker punch Ulf Samuelsson right in the beak; I have never heard a cheer so loud across Canada.

Was it excusable? No.

Was there a secret side of me that grinned with pleasure watching the man that ended the career of a hero like Cam Neely fall to the ice like a rag doll? You bet.

The 2003 team takes the cake on that one, but I'd have to agree, no gamebreakers have stepped up out of the forwards yet, but if the defense keeps playing like they have been, it shouldn't be a big problem, this defense is better than the 04 team IMO.

The Canadian defense was very impressive.

the only missed call imo, was towards the very end when it looked like a boarding call against a US Def defenseman - don't know who

I honestly admit I hate some Americans, most of them people like you, but most of Canadians including myself don't hate the US or most Americans. And plus when the fans say "USA Sucks" I know they mean the team, although the few booing the US anthem are a classless bunch who don't deserve to be Canadian fans.

So a tap on an opposing players stick, something that happens a thousand times every game, warrants and flying elbow to the face? Now i've heard it all.
I guess lesson here is that we must all stop and think about the feelings of a player on a losing team before you touch them, because that emotion permitts them to attempt to seriously injure you......it all makes perfect sense.

Give me a break. Americans are always dumping on Canada and booing our team and anthem just as much. Hate Canada all you like, I don't care and doubt any other Canadian will either. You're just one more who thinks your own side can do no wrong and has selective memory (this goes for both sides).

Game is over, this thread is just stupid now and only gonna get worse.
