as long as Johnson is prepared to sit a game or two.

An elbow to the chin is escalating it a bit over the nothing slashes to the shin pads they were giving each other.

I'll take Johnson on my team anyday, but he should be gone for a few games. Just a dumb play on his part.

Johnson has zero class what he did shows allot about the player. He should be kicked out of the WJC.

i think he will absoulutely bring it to the nhl. i believe he will stand up for himself frequently. why do you think he wont? hes a nasty player, he loves to be involved. i dont think because he threw a cheap shot doesnt mean he wouldnt fight. i think he wouldve fought tonight if he could.

Would have is not the same thing as doing it. Id like to see him go with someone like Bourdon who is a very good fighter and has actually done a time or two before.

There's a difference between giving someone a hack, and giving someone a flying elbow when a play is completed

OH MY MISTAKE!!!

Forgive me for failing to realize that Johnson still could have made a play on the puck as it was basically already in and he was just at the blueline. You've changed my opinion, I applaud Downie's move because he slowed JJ down from making the play. THAT'S HEADS UP HOCKEY! *Cherry Thumbs Up*

why do you think he wouldnt? im sure him and downey had been going at it, and jj went way too far. if it had bourdon, why do you think it wouldnt have been the same?

Did you see the game or not? :dunno:

As for the game:

This is definitely one of the least skilled Canadian teams I've ever seen, especially upfront.

Players that impressed me: Pogge, Bourdon, Downie, Barker, Parent, Meuller, J. Johnson (until the end), and of course Kessel.

Guys I was looking for more from: E. Johnson, Poulliot, Towes, and Skille.

The Canadian posters want the US poster to stop whining, but yet you guys cry over an elbow. It's hockey it happens. Just like getting a goal on a gift powerplay on a dive, and another gift goal on a play where the ref gets in the way of a US player, and an empty net goal. Yeah the US is way over rated. According to the logic of rooting for the underdog I guess from this loss you guys will be rooting for the US from here on out. LOL.....

The whining and crying is mostly coming from you. Seriously, for three days I've been reading your posts and wondering if you are breaking into tears watching this tournament. Just because people in Canada want the US to lose doesn't mean the world is coming to an end for you.

the U.S. is supposed to be better than Canada this year. It's the other way around.

The media played up the US to take some of the pressure off of our boys.

Canada was the real favourite all along, just ask Walt Kyle.

Just like to re-state that if the situations were reversed (i.e. Canada needs a win not a tie) and the US is about to get the empty netter, I'm not surprised if Downie throws a 'bow like that.

He's not exactly known for diplomacy on the ice.

Oh like I said. It's all good. Canadaboy can do no wrong. They are literally gliding towards an empty net victory, why not hack a player who just lost probably the biggest game of his career thus far?

Wow *** is your problem?

Haven't you watched any NHL games? What Downey did happens a lot and if JJ can't take it maybe he shouldn't get a chance to play at the NHL level.

I'm a big fan of JJ's skill, but Downie's tap doesn't warrant a blindside elbow. With the way you're taking it, it seems like it was a good thing what JJ did, and if you're so troubled by Downie's tap, you should also be complaining about JJ's hack before that one.

Thanks for re-stating, but it still doesn't make what JJ did okay.

Some of the posts in this thread are hilarious. You'd think people slept with their grandmothers and taped it or something...

Awesome game. You can basically ignore the last two minutes as it was just due to a technicality. Both teams played each other well, but I'd give the US powerplay an edge over Canada's (seemed more deadly) and Canada the ever so slight edge 5-on-5. Could have gone either way (and considering it was essentially a tie...)

Regarding the two major issues which seem to have sidetracked the thread:

1. People need to get over the booing and 'US sucks' chants. It's a frigging rivalry. I hope to God some of you aren't so sensitive in the real world. It's one thing if fans came in burning American flags and carrying around the corpses of dead presidents, but it was harmless chants.

2. I missed the Johnson elbow, but what's done is done. The tournament officials will handle it, thankfully nobody was seriously injured (as far as I know). No need to crap yourself over it. It's not an international incident.

would love to see your reaction had that elbow (blatant cheapshot) been thrown at the head of your golden boy Kessel. Bottom line, there is and always has been penalties for blatant cheap shots like Johnson's in this game. Thats part of the game. See you next year Johnson.

I'm an American, and that wasn't just an elbow. There is a big difference between a 2 minute minor for elbowing and an intent to injure that has nothing to do with the play.

Until you actually fight you will always be in doubt at least thats the way I think. I dont know if JJ will fight in the NHL or not but with the way he plays hes gonna have to learn and pretty quick. I have heard some good stories about him as youngster so I dont doubt he will. I am a fight fan and love agressive guys.

BTW on the Elbow not really that big a deal and I hope he doesnt get suspended for the whole tourny.

Yes.

Let's compare the World Championships of his age group, an international tournament he will be able to play in what...2-3 times(?).. to an NHL game.

Shall we?

If a Canadian player had of did that to a Yank man this board would be plastered with comments.... Johnson gave a cheap shot and the Canadians won the game.....

I'm surprised at a lot of people.

If I'm a fan of the 'Canes, his display of nastiness makes me feel even better of the 3rd overall pick. Classless or not, it adds to his already overflowing portfolio of skating, hitting, shooting, and smarts.

This is totally irrelevant because it didn't happen. Why would anyone even bring something like that up? Downie didn't use his elbow to fly into Johnson's jaw.

Not impressed with Cogliano and Kessel.
I've only seen the WJC so far, so I don't claim to be an expert on these players, but Cogliano and Kessel are becomign very predictable to me. Cogliano's pretty much go ta patentent on his break between the defence, cut back and pass. Incredibly skilled and speedy player, but the guy's gotta learn to utalize his tools better. As for Kessel, the guy tries to beat you one-on-one every team. Ryan Parent completely owned Kessel, knowing Kessel will try and beat you one-on-one every time. Kessel plays a very individual game, and I personally think he's kind of overrated (then again, I've only seen him a couple times so far, and just the WJC) but if I have the No 1 pick, I'm trading down. I'd actually perfer to have Towes right now.

Player tha treally inpresses me, Ryan Parent. Lucky Nashville, every game, he just impresses me more and more. He's the team's best blueliner, the best defender for Canada in the past 8 years outside of Dion Phaneuf and will be a absolute rock for Nashville (all IMO). If there is one player I want on my team on this Canadian squad, it has to be Ryan Parent without a doubt. He's what, 19? He plays like a 30-year NHL vet.

A great game to watch, even though it was kind of scrappy in the third. However, it was disappointing to see it end on such a sour note.

I can't believe Johnson dished out such a blatant cheap shot. Very dumb and shameful. Hope Downie is all right.

The 2003 team takes the cake on that one, but I'd have to agree, no gamebreakers have stepped up out of the forwards yet, but if the defense keeps playing like they have been, it shouldn't be a big problem, this defense is better than the 04 team IMO.

Wow, this was a brutual play especially when the game was totally over. If you never seen it keep your opinion to yourself. This was an intent to injury, he should be kicked out of the WJC.
