That is J.J.'s problem...I saw something similar against Miami of Ohio. He is a talented player but must realize when to lay off. As an American I am disappointed.

Cheers to a fun game to watch.

Man, it's funny you write something like that, Ogie. :D

I wonder if people noticed that Johnson actually hacked Downie first?

I bet not...

Trying to slow down a player going after a loose puck towards an empty net is TOTALLY the same as hacking a player who is out of the play. Right?

I wonder if people have noticed that Downie gave Johnson a hack right as they crossed the blueline...

I bet not...

So what are you saying Downie deserved it????

Careful my friend that is a slippery slope :shakehead

stop making excuses for the USA sucks chant.. its classless and pathetic .. no excuses. Two wrongs don't make a right.

It's not classless. Do people have this problem when Edmonton fans make their Calgary SUCKS chant? Where the heck did this classless crap come from all of a sudden? It's a team rivarly and this game has been hyped up in Vancouver for four months now. It's been happening in the NHL and international hockey forever. It's just a chant and far less a "wrong" than viciously elbowing a guy in the jaw.

Why are some of the us fans constantly whinnig about the us suck chants?? Common its a rivalry, your constant whinning is ridiculious.

More like Canadian fans saying this :

QUOTE
"Why are we canadians so insecure when it comes to hockey? We get so venomous and cocky against other teams when they do well, because it somehow challenges our national identity in some twisted way. Grow up! Canada is a great country that is more than hockey. Sure, hockey is a big part, but we have so many other positives that define us as a country. So, quit whining when another team does bad, and quit being idiots when other teams lose. It just makes us look the fool."

QUOTE
"I am a Canadian first and foremost, and while the USA is a good place to visit, I would not want to live there. However, the ignorence of the WJHC fans in Vancouver is getting out of hand. Cheer for the opposition in games involving Americans, but leave out the chants of U.S. Sucks and the like."

QUOTE
"Truly sad and embarrassing sportsmanship by Canadians. I would love to see coverage by Canadian press outlets if this crowd behavior had been reversed last year here in Grand Forks, ND with booing of the Canadian players and chanting Canada sucks. Why is it that the Canadian press is just letting this slide?? I have an American father and Canadian mother and I spend much time in both countries and I am frankly appalled and embarrassed by the actions of the fans in Vancouver. Nice, real nice message you're sending to the younger fans and players watching at the rink and on t.v. there."

QUOTE
"As revolting as the chants of "U.S Sucks" were, and they were shameful, the thing that really got me was the booing of the USA anthem and the player of the game. Are you ignorant people that disappointed with your own lives that you have to berate a kid that just won a great personal honour. I'm a canadian through and through and I never thought I would be ashamed of that, well done "fans", you accomplished the impossible for me, Im now deeply ashamed. Let's try and keep it to just " GO CANADA GO" today, and pretend we have class.."

Pulling the goalie was ridiculous. I understand the desire to win the pool, but you're playing for pride, above all. Maybe with 30 seconds to go, but not a full minute and a half. A win, even if it comes by an empty net goal, charges up the Canadians for the rest of the tournament. Sucks that a great, evenly-played game is decided that way. I feel ripped off.

Eh? It means nothing. The US knows they were the equal of us today.

....Sucks for us that we could not see it closer up. I wonder if something was said or if they were just slashing back and forth on each other.

I think that every other camera in the entire arena was focused on Chipchura potting the empty netter. TSN tried to show "the incident" with the net cam, but all you saw was the puck in the net and Downie already on the ice.

lookit, 'nucks fans were booing their first round pick..schneider..so everybody is at war in this tourney
:biglaugh:

I disagree. There was just over a minute to go, a tie is a loss for the US. They did the right thing tonight. If they didn't choke versus the Finns then a tie would have been a win for US and Canada would have had to pull the goalie in a tie game situation due to goal differential.

They should allow fighting in the World Juniors so Bourdon go have went after Johnson and tuned him up.

Great game. I was disappointed by the USA's 5on5 play as I thought they got outplayed. Kessel was pretty much a non factor,Oshie more like who? Bobby Ryan is the only 6'4 220 pounded I know who gets knocked around like nothing. Johnson and Johnson got pounded all night and ran out of gas in the 3rd. The US goalie was great and made some key saves.

I was worried about Canada's defence but not anymore this group is as solid as it gets. Still need some more scoring up front but man the Canadians just out work everyone except for maybe the Swiss :D

No no, it's cool. Downey can crack at Johnson who is out of the play when the puck is about to cross the goalline, but gee golly gosh, when JJ retaliates...hang him!

And elbowing a player in the jaw after the play is over is the same as hacking a player who is out of the play?

Keep digging.

Good point Pete.

BTW, very impressed with Pogge, Parent, and Staal. I couldn't really get a grasp on any of the offensive players in this game for either team. There was so much obstruction going on, and both sets of forwards seemed more focused on hitting than scoring...

Fun though :) I hope there is a rematch. Not sure either team will beat the Russians though....and heck, the Swiss if they get in could upset some people. They have played Canada and the US very close already.

Kessel tried like the Dickens to generate things but the Canadian D kept standing him up and blocking his shots/lanes.

I could have sworn that after Kessel broke in the Canadian zone and Parent took the body instead of the puck, Parent looks at Kessel and says, "Nice move."

Any lip-readers around?

I hope that Johnson doesn't need more than three surgeries on whatever body part was viciously hacked by Downie. :sarcasm:

Christ, you're making this "hack" out to be career ending.

Your making it sound like it was a big hack or something that took him out of the play. Watch the hilites and see it was a mere tap that barely moved Johnson's stick.

I dont know about you but where I come from if were playing a town thats 30 kilometers away. We HATE that town for that game. Its just the way it is in Canada with Hockey.

Get over it already.

Eye for an eye.

I struck gold.

Ryan Parent was great playing the body on Kessel tonight one on one of the rush, and provided a nice demonstration on how to play Kessel. When Kessel went one on one with Parent, Kessel went no where.
