Good game.

US should have won. Hitting the post 3 times did them no justice.
No they shouldnt have. Posts are part of the game.

No no, it's cool. Downey can crack at Johnson who is out of the play when the puck is about to cross the goalline, but gee golly gosh, when JJ retaliates...hang him!

Exactly. Downie should learn one good lesson from this: Live by the sword, die by the sword. I am not advocating it either way, but Downie was instigating Johnson up until the final second before the EN goal was scored and Johnson went off. Oh well, you wanna play with the big boys, be prepared.

Kessel tried like the Dickens to generate things but the Canadian D kept standing him up and blocking his shots/lanes.

I could have sworn that after Kessel broke in the Canadian zone and Parent took the body instead of the puck, Parent looks at Kessel and says, "Nice move."

Any lip-readers around?

He said "nice move - to bad its the only one you got".

lookit, 'nucks fans were booing their first round pick..schneider..so everybody is at war in this tourney
:biglaugh:
I found that hilarious, too.
The tourney rivalry outstrips the NHL team, clearly.
Thought Jack Johnson played a strong game, but the elbow was bush league.
He should be suspended for a game...he'll still be back for the semi versus Russia and the final versus Canada, if that happens.
Easily the best game of this tournament, very gritty game by the Canadians.
I really liked both Johnsons for the States, Oshie, Schneider and all 6 dmen for Team Canada, too. Great job by the D to keep the Americans outside.
Fantastic work by Parent on Kessel and Downie clearly got under JJ's skin all night.
Both goalies were outstanding tonight.

Your making it sound like it was a big hack or something that took him out of the play. Watch the hilites and see it was a mere tap that barely moved Johnson's stick.

Oh like I said. It's all good. Canadaboy can do no wrong. They are literally gliding towards an empty net victory, why not hack a player who just lost probably the biggest game of his career thus far?

I dont know about you but where I come from if were playing a town thats 30 kilometers away. We HATE that town for that game. Its just the way it is in Canada with Hockey.
But dont get me wrong if that town needs help were the FIRST ones there.
Get over it already.

get over what? It sounds like the Canadian fans took more issue with the US sucks chants than I ever did. -

Canadian fan quotes from TSN:

QUOTE
"Why are we canadians so insecure when it comes to hockey? We get so venomous and cocky against other teams when they do well, because it somehow challenges our national identity in some twisted way. Grow up! Canada is a great country that is more than hockey. Sure, hockey is a big part, but we have so many other positives that define us as a country. So, quit whining when another team does bad, and quit being idiots when other teams lose. It just makes us look the fool."

QUOTE
"I am a Canadian first and foremost, and while the USA is a good place to visit, I would not want to live there. However, the ignorence of the WJHC fans in Vancouver is getting out of hand. Cheer for the opposition in games involving Americans, but leave out the chants of U.S. Sucks and the like."

QUOTE
"Truly sad and embarrassing sportsmanship by Canadians. I would love to see coverage by Canadian press outlets if this crowd behavior had been reversed last year here in Grand Forks, ND with booing of the Canadian players and chanting Canada sucks. Why is it that the Canadian press is just letting this slide?? I have an American father and Canadian mother and I spend much time in both countries and I am frankly appalled and embarrassed by the actions of the fans in Vancouver. Nice, real nice message you're sending to the younger fans and players watching at the rink and on t.v. there."

QUOTE
"As revolting as the chants of "U.S Sucks" were, and they were shameful, the thing that really got me was the booing of the USA anthem and the player of the game. Are you ignorant people that disappointed with your own lives that you have to berate a kid that just won a great personal honour. I'm a canadian through and through and I never thought I would be ashamed of that, well done "fans", you accomplished the impossible for me, Im now deeply ashamed. Let's try and keep it to just " GO CANADA GO" today, and pretend we have class."

geez there's more to this game then the elbow and some cross-country cultural trash talk!
lol

congrats to both teams..btw i wasn't that impressed with the swiss--canada completely dominated them, if it not for the penalties..it wouldn't have ever been close..it was 4-1 midway thru second and canada went to sleep...the swiss were trapping in the neutral zone the entire game. i'm not worried baout playing them --the czechs are a scarier more talented version of that 'trapping' team, the swedes look pretty good and russia with malkin too..

puhhleezee Wonder what big Jack's gonna do when he cant hide behind that face mask in Michigan? Wonder if he will be so quick to throw that big elbow in the NHL :sarcasm:

These Canada vs US games never fail to disappoint, always exciting from start to finish. Canada certaintly seemed to be the better team tonight 5 on 5, really need to get something going on that PP and we wouldn't of needed that empty netter. Its a shame the game ended the way it did with a cheapshot and hope we can say goodbye to Johnson for the rest of this tournament.

As far as the US sucks chants I don't care much for it, but we've heard the "Canada/US sucks" chants and booing on both sides of the border and its not something people should be worrying too much about when two teams representing their country are competing against each other.

I hope that Johnson doesn't need more than three surgeries on whatever body part was viciously hacked by Downie. :sarcasm:

Christ, you're making this "hack" out to be career ending.

That's exactly what i'm doing. From the intense detail upon which I described the slash. Man, you are awesome at pointing out details.

DynamoAO said:
I wonder if people have noticed that Downie gave Johnson a hack right as they crossed the blueline...

I bet not...

Oh you mean the one right after Johnson gave Downie one? Yeah, I saw those both, right before the cheap shot Johnson gave Downie.

Yeah, definitely looked like that, definitely not smack at all.

Parent and Staal were amazing out there today, so were Bourdon and Letang. Somebody finally realized that the best way to stop Kessel is to just ignore the puck and take the body, Cherry would be proud.

Still, Kessel may have been a realtive non-factor stat wise, but I was worried every time he had the puck, one slip up by a defenseman and he's gonna make you pay.

I could care less if someone boos me. I dont agree with booing someones national anthem but the rest is just fans getting into the game.

What about the nasty slash Chipchura recieved as he was putting the puck in the net? Should he have turned around and drove the other guy?

Good point Pete.

BTW, very impressed with Pogge, Parent, and Staal. I couldn't really get a grasp on any of the offensive players in this game for either team. There was so much obstruction going on, and both sets of forwards seemed more focused on hitting than scoring...

Thanks Enoch!

I as well was impressed with Pogge and Parent (Parent much more so because he was about as steady as a defenceman could be), but Staal still agitates me. McGuire spent the whole game talking about how Staal is such a cerebral player (big word for McGuire :snide: ) but Staal still does so much to impress me and then makes some bad moves; he had a couple tonight, even having one that caused McGuire to call Staal on it.

Ryan sure looks like he lost the battle of the two top prospects not named Sydney in the draft last year. Ryan was virtually invisible while Jack Johnson played a strong game and was three inches to the left from two goals.

Ah, someone with a clue! There IS hope!

Oh my God I can picture the outrage right now if the crowd in ND acted the way most of the crowd in Vancouver has acted. Hoooly, talk about crucify.

I didn't know the US anthem was booed, but that really bothers me more than anything else. That's insulting to boo ANY anthem imo. Very disrespectful.

What's the point of reposting this?

It won't change the issue of the game...

There's a difference between giving someone a hack, and giving someone a flying elbow when a play is completed

i think he will absoulutely bring it to the nhl. i believe he will stand up for himself frequently. why do you think he wont? hes a nasty player, he loves to be involved. i dont think because he threw a cheap shot doesnt mean he wouldnt fight. i think he wouldve fought tonight if he could.

as long as Johnson is prepared to sit a game or two.

An elbow to the chin is escalating it a bit over the nothing slashes to the shin pads they were giving each other.

I'll take Johnson on my team anyday, but he should be gone for a few games. Just a dumb play on his part.

The Canadian posters want the US poster to stop whining, but yet you guys cry over an elbow. It's hockey it happens. Just like getting a goal on a gift powerplay on a dive, and another gift goal on a play where the ref gets in the way of a US player, and an empty net goal. Yeah the US is way over rated. According to the logic of rooting for the underdog I guess from this loss you guys will be rooting for the US from here on out. LOL.....

I'm willing to bet most of those people are Americans pretending to be Canadians so their point would seem to hold more weight. Like there wouldn't have been a "Canada sucks" chant at Grand Forks if enough Americans would have come to watch the games.

rofls Kariya's a midget that skates in one line and fires slap shots.

Kessel is 6 ft tall, just as fast, shifiter than slipsand with dazzling moves and a "Hull" release.

Kariya is comparable to Bourque if anyone.

Don't go into scouting anytime soon.

Watch a lot of hockey?
