Far more than 4 elite players?
When and which players?
Since you asked, I complied a list in 2005 of the no-shows at this tournament from 1982 until then. They only included junior-age players who were missing because they were already in the NHL. They did not include injured players or those who simply weren't picked by their countries. Canada led with 133 missing players. Next was the US with 21 and Russia 10. Sweden had 1.
Canada was missing 13 players in 1984.
The list is searchable here. Somebody (can't remember who) updated it a couple of years ago to include more recent years and any omissions I might have made.
