“Lias Andersson is a solid pick, he’s a Frans Nielsen type, but he’s just not that flashy, he should be a second line center in all three zones. The one to watch is Filip Chytil, he’s a high skill player who played in an obscure location for scouts to access. That could be their home run because he’s extremely talented. They got two future top-6 forwards, so good moves for the Rangers.

Is Zlin a hard city to access?

The Rangers obviously scout the region. Petr Zamorsky was playing for Zlin when we signed him a few years back.

Well, yes, the Rangers do. But I would venture a guess that there is not an exhaustive amount of scouts for just the NHL and other reporting/analysis agencies doing so.

Depends...if you already have someone in Brno (lets say to scout Nečas), it's just 45 minutes drive.

If you want to send there someone who is scouting just that region in general...nearest airport is in Brno, but there are almost no flights going there so you have to use Prague or Vienna airport. Motorway from Prague to Zlín is under reconstruction, so if you get there under 3 hours you are extremly lucky, motorway from Vienna is not even finished.

For those who followed/know more about this kid than I do, what would you say is the strongest part of his game? Skating ability?

I've only wathed Youtube clips but I am very impressed with Flip's stick handling and vision! WOW!
I was disappointed on draft day but feel a lot better after actually wathing him.
completely on board!

NOT a refernce I stand by, but as i recall, the NHL Network chart, when he was picked, cited Skating as an area of improvement

That's interesting, I figured the Rangers always prized skating ability first and foremost. Hopefully this kid has the natural skill already and can build on his skating.

Honestly, this hasn't been answered does this guy have a chance to be a #1 center? Not asking if the chance is big, I just want a chance. We haven't had a potential #1 center in our pipeline since I've been watching the Rangers (00-01) season and before that.

There is always a chance. There is also a chance I might be the new Hasek, but the chance of that happening is beyond slim to none, but it's not in the realm of impossibility. So yes Andersson and Chytil have the "chance" (probability) of being 1# center. Andersson more so though imo.

Think of it this way.

When Skjei was drafted, the reactions were similar to this years draft. Except for the initial huge freak-outs because we picked 7th and 21st; Skjei was picked 28th, so we were more chill about it but still pessimistic and premature basically.

Now look at Skjei! He's turning into a cornerstone of our D, he is tbh. Just a stellar performance last season. Few saw that coming at all.

These two kids (Andersson and Chytil) were picked in the 1st round and we freak out, know nothing really about them, except some impressive numbers actually.

I think they will be roster players, where they'll pan out is to be seen.

there was alot of buzz about this guy. on draft day more than few insiders had him as a riser and someone who could sneak into the top 20.

even a few here had him as an early 2nd round target (were we to have an early 2nd rounder)

i trust this staff to do their job.

im especially pleased with this draft and going primarily euro skill guys. thats what i wanted.

as has been said here alot, the euro overagers are a solid play in later rounds and taking young kids who are palying in top euro leagues is smart. these kids are further along.

very happy overall with this years draft.

Man he is 17 years old and already looks like a MAN on the ice. Has so many tools but hard to say what he will be being so young. Could bust. But if there was ONE guy in the entire Rangers system who has the raw skill and talent to become that true 1 center we have needed since Messier, this would be the guy. The typical projection offensive dynamo pick.

Kid has really good vision, appears to think quickly, and makes crisp tape-to-tape passes. Appears to be able to maneuver well with speed and through traffic too. That skating stride is nearly flawless
