Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 7-4 to the Avs - Contenders vs Pretenders

Another smelly goal to start the game.

Any time a team allows a goal in the first minute it means they weren't prepared. They couldn't be bothered to show up on time basically. And when a team doesn't show up and play with a sense of purpose they're gonna get beat.

Especially when the other team does.

I thought the Leafs traded for a 3C. Laughton appears to be cut from the same cloth as Domi. He's a winger masquerading as a centre.

If Laughton isn't a capable centre then trading for him was a horrible mistake.

There were more turnovers than in a bakery in this one. Seven goals against is a stinker no matter how you slice it. Even if they had scored ten themselves it's still a bad game.

Just because the other team is crap doesn't mean you smell like roses.

I stand by what I said, the 2nd 4th and 5th goals are all goals Stolarz has to have and usually does when he ias on.

It's OK to say he was awful tonight because he was.

Its not really ok to say he was awful since you are a biased evaluator when it comes to goaltending. You always have chosen to blame the goalies rather than forwards and defense in front of them

Andersen, Campbell, Woll, Stolarz etc

The team has played shit games like this with them all in net and you would blame the goalies instead of the team as a whole

This should have been a 3-1 or 4-2 Avs win if both goalies did their jobs. The Avs goalie let in 2 really weak goals and the leafs only had 19 total shots. Avs limited our offense very well to the point we needed the opposing goalie to give a .789 for us to be at a 4-2 lead at a point in the game (was 4 on like 11 during this point)

You will hardly ever deserve to win a game as a unit getting only 19 shots and giving as many as we did.

Very few if any goalies in the league would have won this game for the leafs

My Gawd, Take a chill pill. Tampa just got pumped 4-0 , AT HOME, to an AHL Bruins team. Leafs were on the road and lost to a highly motivated Cup contender, who also will not get out of the first round with that goaltending. Do I expect great things out of this Leaf team. Not a lick. Far too many passengers on this club. Holmberg, Domi, Robertson, Reilly.
Please give JT and Nylander a quality left winger. Move McMahon up. or Domi. or Patches if he is still available.Maybe give Steeves a shot.

And you need a banger, cycle guy on the 4th line. Big, Has some puck skills which leaves Reeves out. Maybe Logan Shaw from the Marlies. The Marlie captain and a heart and soul guy.

You gotta mucker, a passer and a shooter on each line.

We are never winning anything with this group of players. I am so glad we just blew 2 more first rounders to try to accomplish the impossible again though!

This is on the coaches, they have had 2/3rd's of a season to implement a system, I have yet to see a repeatable system that you notices lines 1 through 4, it looks more like chaos. We dont support each other well, we dont do tape to tape passes well, we dont forecheck or back check particularly well, we dont eliminate cross ice passes well, we dont protect the point well, we dont keep the front of our net clean... This team is too skilled to look that unorganized, purposeless, clueless .....we will go as far as this goaltending new toy tandem will take us, it appears the shine is coming off our new toy.

Four goals on 21 shots is pretty efficient. The rest of this one wasn't particularly pretty though. But, it's just one game.

The predictables... Benoit wasn't very good (Benoit posted a 5.6% xG at 5v5 tonight. We moved the wrong D). Leafs usual suspect fans overreact to a loss. @Evilhomer makes a prediction that is wrong and goes bad.

I think McMann, Knies, and Tavares should run their own lines to give them a chance to score and if they need a goal late put them together.

There was a period just before the Avs tied where they committed about 5 infractions over 2 shifts. And the refs just didn't want to make the call.

This team is legitimately too far passed saving. None of the timelines of important positions match up with each other.

This is what it is until the Matthews era is over and then we'll have to try again.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the organization and the players actually know this as well.

As has been said before it was pretty much over before it started. There was so much damage done in such a short space of time, that unfortunately there was just not recovering from.

They're now left with trying to build a team through Free Agency (never good) and at the deadline with trading away more and more future years.

They really need to get Holmberg off that line and put McMann there. Tavares is useless everywhere other than in the O Zone.
