Prospect Info: With the 21st Overall Pick the Rangers Select Filip Chytil

Filip stated a number of times that he wants to play next season in the Czech League. I say don't push it. I'd prefer NA, but if the kid really doesn't think he's ready, leave him there, but he should be prepared to play in the AHL in 2018-19, and make the NHL a season after that. He also says he's been working on his English since September with a private English teacher. His english is very good for a kid from Czech Republic, understood almost every question, only asked one journalist to repeat their question. The language barrier should be no problem for Filip. Shows good dedication to hockey that he learned English in anticipation for the draft.

Is there a possibility to play AHL for him next season ? or only juniors league ?

I have no problem leaving him in Czech. He is very young, no need to rush him.

He can play in the AHL.

The rule allows players of all nationalities to play in the AHL, as long as they have not been transferred to a CHL team. They can be loaned to a CHL team, and play a season there, like say Alex Nylander did, but you can't be transferred to the CHL.

If they were transferred to the CHL, its round about 20 that they have to wait, depends on if they are a late or early birthday.

Should keep him in the Czech Republic. He is playing for a quite weak team that has the right mindset regarding young players, so I wouldn't be shocked if he got a chance to play the 1C for them the next year. Late in the season he played good minutes in the top 6 anyway.

I like this pick, he wasn't at the top of my board (Yamamoto, Kostin, Tolvanen) but he was a big riser for me aswell and he's really good.

We reached a bit but atleast we reached for a good high upside player, i'm OK with that :)

He can play in the AHL if that's where he and the Rangers believe to be his best option. The restriction on the AHL is only for players drafted out of the CHL. It's rare for an 18 year old to play in the AHL though, and Chytil is young for his draft class, so it's probably best for him to stay at least another year where he is.

Maybe this is super optimistic, but he missed the 2018 draft by ten days.

If he's ten days older, and has a crazy 2017-18 at Zlin, maybe he goes top 10. You never know.

Good point. Maybe we got the biggest steal of the draft here. I guess Geordie and Co we're drafting on size and speed more than anything else.

I was really pissed off last night at these picks and I shouldn't have been. A I was fairly drunk and B I don't know as much about these guys as this precious years. I think it was the frustration of not having a first round pick for 5 years... my brain could not compute us picking 7th overall and then again at 21.

I have a feeling that's the case for a lot of people here (including myself) because we didn't pick the players who were talked about the most on this board. But rangers still gave themselves a chance to have 2 very good players here.

To be fair, it was underwhelming targeting Cody Glass and having him right there and then it turns into Andersson.

That doesn't mean Andersson isn't a good prospect or that it was the wrong pick when we made it, but the cutoff in quality after Glass was palpable. You could feel it in the room.

But hey, Vegas picked 6th and we picked 7th. It is what it is.

The more time passes the more OK/Good i feel about these picks. They were not perfect picks but they were far from bad :)

I am appalled, being drunk has never ever made me do something rash or say something I shouldn't have had, ever. In fact no one I know has ever had this reaction to copious amounts of alcohol, you're a weirdo.

I can't say if this was a good pick or bad pick, I haven't seen the kid play. I have seen the the highlight reel but that's not really a measure. It can be putting a lot of makeup on an ugly gal. I like the fact he has size/speed, lets not fool ourselves that's where the NHL is going or actually is right now. So the Rangers got that part right, lets see if he develops.

Keep him in the Czech league this year and get him to the AHL for his age 19 season.

I am all for keeping prospects in their respective countries until they're ready to come over, whenever that is. It's worked out well with Europeans in the past when they let it happen organically, rather than forcing anyone's hand.

The kid is 17 years old has great vision obviously can fly and is going to grow another inch and put 30 pounds on his body I love this picK

He compared himself to Alex Galchenyuk in the post draft interview, and I think it's a decent comparison. Also would throw out Jake Voracek as a comp. Big player who's very good along the boards with excellent playmaking skills.

Kind of reminds me of the Mark Jankowski at #21 in 2012, at least in terms of being very young, hitting a growth spurt recently and a bit of a reach. Luckily, he is coming from a men's professional league instead of HS like Jankowski so hopefully his development is quicker/better.
