I don't really place much faith in the Czech league for development right now. He's tailor made for the CHL, frankly. I'd love to see him in the Dub.

Czech system seemed to have taken backward steps in their prospect development over the last 5-10 years, but Filip is already playing in their top tier men league at the age of 17. It's not a second best or a junior league. Leave him alone there to continue to get better. Maybe next year he can go SHL or AHL route. For now he should stay back and not deal with off-ice acclimation issues and such.

Man, he had quite the game vs Russia there. Really impressive.

It doesn't look like he has elite speed but he has great hands and really solid edge work from what I can tell. The slick hands and lateral ability (edges) really stand out.

You can't tell too much from a 2 minute clip but he looks very intriguing.

to be honest I'd also worry about a big guy who's been playing against men going down and playing against under 20's in juniors. I worry it'd lead to relying on his size too much and not on using his skills.

I hope not. He's already playing against men and will see more responsibility next year in Zlin. I'd rather he stay there.

Agreed. Playing pro hockey is better for his development. It's a shame CZ doesn't have a team in the KHL. That would be good for the development of those players. Give the NHL draft picks a shot to play against the best teams in Europe...

But playing in the EL is still better than the CHL

I think Krejci is a very good comparision. Agree fully to leave the kid alone and let him develop where he is.

I honestly don't understand the need to rush prospects. Let them develop in their own culture or system. It really works out for a lot of players vs rushing them if they're not 100% ready. Think of how many solid all around players who developed that way. Plus, Hartford has been a joke and like has been said on numerous occasions, the NHL isn't a development league and AV isn't that type of coach.

He only played 1 season in the EL. He has room to grow with his current team. He can come over next year or go to the KHL/SHL for a season.

It's a few hours from Vienna. Do you guys want me to scout him for you?

I do not really think it is obscure location. It is what, hour or two from Breclav, Ivan Hlinka Memorial host city. PSG Zlin is traditional Czech Extraliga team so call it obscure location seems pretty lazy to me. Fortunately, Rangers have this region covered really well.

I am not saying you are wrong, but Tomas Hertl developed pretty well playing in Czech league under similar circumstances (not a great team, lot of time for young talented player)

To some people, anything east of NY is obscure

I would agree if this was 15-20 years ago.

Auston Matthews decided to play in the NLA, which is the same level as the EL. I think people are underestimating the value in playing against grown-ups when it comes to development.

Sure, they shouldn't go to te BeNe-Liga, but the NLA and EL are not bad leagues

Matthews was a near generational talent who was both mentally and physically ready for the NHL while he was in the NLA. He also wanted to make some money. Chytil . . . is not. I think that getting used to the conditioning in the West, the language, and the culture will all benefit a raw guy like Chytil. I also, as said, do not have any respect for the Czech league in terms of pure player development.

If he was moving to the SHL or something, I'd be fine with him staying over there.

That's not the point. Actually, it would give Chytil even more reason to stick around since he has more room to grow than Matthews.

Anyway, he played 1 season at pro level so far. He is 18 years old and can develop in his own country for another year. The WHL isn't better than the EL. Junior hockey is overrated. And I say that as a huge Thunderbirds fan

Hertl is so much more then mediocre, he scores like a good 3rd liner and drives play like a 1st liner, he's really good.

Czech league is good, I keep hearing from people who are familiar with all the major professional hockey leagues in Europe that it's comparable to Swedish, Finnish or Swiss league. Definitely a tier below KHL, but it's absurd to say that Chytil should either go to CHL or to Sweden, he's good where he is. Czech Extraliga hasn't produced many NHL players lately but it's more due to the fact that it's been really hard for young players to crack the professional team rosters, so that they've been forced to choose CHL instead. The problem is that professional teams in the Czech Republic don't provide enough space for young players (as the coaches and GMs have no incentives to do so - quite the contrary actually), and at the same time, the U20 junior league is not very good. However, Chytil is in a different and much better position right now.

Hertl is very mediocre. Also, injury problems can stem from bad conditioning in leagues like the Czech league.

Sure, this has nothing to with Dustin Brown blowing his knee out and everything to do with bad conditioning in a league in which he played his last game four years ago.
