Otto Stenberg, C/W - Sweden
Stenberg has made a habit of ramping up his play and production while wearing the Tre Kronor sweater and this was no different. His seven goals and 16 points sat fourth in the tournament - trailing only the dominant USA first-liners.
This showing has very likely pushed Stenberg from a tweener first-round prospect to a locked-in one. Otto Stenberg wasn't just the captain of the Swedish team, he was the beating heart. The 17-year-old scored nearly every big goal for the team on route to a heartbreaking overtime loss in the gold medal game.

A guy that has been ranked anywhere from #8 in the draft to #45 that interests me is Daniil But.

6'5, 210 lbs, turned 18 in mid-feb. Played 15 games in the K this year, 2 goals, with one being a carbon copy of a Tage Thompson/Lemieux reach/patience/skill goal. Good shot, great hands, average skating, which we can expect with a kid still growing into his 6'5 frame in his late teens. Over a PPG both years in the MHL, I believe. Not saying I'm hoping we take him at #14, but I'd be super interested if we did and not disappointed. If were talking boom or bust though there though, he fits that to a tee.

Best combo of IQ and skating left on the board and highest ceiling…that’s who we should select if we’re making the pick at 14…they should consider nothing else

Yep yep. I got to watch him play a few games (YouTube seems to stream those games for free) while I was watching our boy Tankov. Tank, But, and some other player whose name is escaping my mind right now stood out the most.

Based upon my very ineffective scouting, this is one of the guys I really like. Plus I think if the pens trade down to 20, they might still be able to get him.

Some behind the scenes of Dubas and the Pens scouting staff at the combine.

Of note, Nick Pryor - son of Hextall buddy Chris Pryor - is still running the amateur scouting department. He and Dubas had cordial, positive things to say about each other. He's staying in through the draft, which makes sense, but we'll see what happens afterward.

Read this. Sounds like Dubas is doing his job who cares lol

Two teams took Brayden Yager out to dinner at the combine. Arizona as part of a group of 9. And your Pittsburgh Penguins.

Ferrari, who values the right things in the draft, doesn’t even really have Yager as a first round pick…here’s his comment on him:

32. Brayden Yager, C/RW, Moose Jaw (WHL), 5-foot-11, 166 pounds

Yager played center on Moose Jaws’ top line for much of the season, developing a decent playmaking touch to go along with his shot. Unfortunately, production and raw shooting talent never seemed to line up as he failed to reach 30 goals this season despite hitting 34 last year. Yager’s defensive game has been praised throughout the draft process but it hasn’t stuck out in a meaningful way in my viewings. He puts in an effort on the opponent's zone entry but fails to continue working defensively, oftentimes getting lost in the shuffle. He doesn’t show the traits of being the primary puck carrier and loops around in the offensive zone waiting for passes. If playing on the wing and being utilized on the powerplay, he could reach a higher ceiling but the shooting regression and lack of play driving from the middle might limit what he could be.

Re: Yager

"Make no mistake though. This is a player with 30-goal upside, if things break right. A little more physical strength, maybe even an extra step or two as a skater, and Yager can get there."

Also says that he isn't much of a passer as in lacks that ability.

Yeah the skating concerns me…it’s hard to improve a lot

the year before last he was a goal scorer. he was told he needed to work on his passing and he did just that. he is a guy that works hard to improve his game. so I think next year he'll put the two together. "IF" he can add some weight and strength his skating will improve. he has up-side without limits, but with him also comes risk.

he doesn't need to improve that much

Yager’s skating looks fine. A few clips of him beating guys wide. At his size though the faster the better.

I don’t think we’ll need to settle for him though. Someone higher up will fall to us.

That’s why I like Moore. He’d be one of the fastest players on any team instantly. Usually bodes well as far as NHL future.
according to some people, Yzerman is going to take Moore if he’s there…

All these guys after the top 8-9 picks come with warts, in some cases large warts lol….that’s why I’d prefer we use the 14OA to bring in a really good established player, whether that’s Hellebuyck or whoever….

Don't be surprised if Yager's the one dropping to us. I've seen him ranked as high as #11. Could be gone and the Pens could pass over him. As much as BPA I am, the Pens really don't need to be wasting picks on a winger. If it isn't a center/D-man my attention level drops significantly.
