Don't be surprised if Yager's the one dropping to us. I've seen him ranked as high as #11. Could be gone and the Pens could pass over him. As much as BPA I am, the Pens really don't need to be wasting picks on a winger. If it isn't a center/D-man my attention level drops significantly.
I don’t think it’s a “drop”….most draftniks have him ranked lower than 14, in some case a lot lower…if anything, taking him at 14 is a little high

I hope Benson, Leonard, Moore or Wood drop and if they don’t ASP is my safety and Yager or another one of the teen-range Cs my worst case scenario.

So Moore (who's going to Minnesota for a few years) and Yager are my hopefuls.

McKenzie's list is the one that I pay the most attention to since it comes from polling actual NHL team scouts. He has Yager at 7 which makes me think he's going higher than a lot expect.

Mid-season ranking McKenzie had him there based on his last season but he didn’t progress this season…he wasn’t in McKenzie’s top 12 as of May, however…

Nah. Yager was top ten by most accounts heading into this year.
Again, this year he didn’t progress and has dropped out of first half of the draft

Gotcha. Eliteprospects needs to update their list, they still have his mid-season on their site.

It’s interesting that the old critique of Yager was that he lacked playmaking ability so he goes and significantly increases his assists but goals go down a tad. Probably not much to read into there.

22/69 goals were on the PP. Bit high. Barlow is at 18/76.

Benson is ridiculous. He had more shorthanded goals than PP goals.

He's certainly looking to be higher.

2023 NHL Draft Diary: Brayden Yager

Also, it really depends on what teams are looking for considering all the centers are in the top 6 of McKenzie's list.

Moore and Yager are not in his top 12 doesn't mean teams are not still prioritizing centers. The Pens should, even if they are not in the top 14. As long as they are not doing a Pouliot at #8 who was a late teens early 20's kind of parity difference.

Gracyn Sawchyn apparently has just a body fat percentage of 3.64%.

The more I read about him the more I like him. Not at 14 but it's seeming like he's at least a buzzsaw 4th liner.

Wouldn't be shocked if Benson dropped a bit due to size concerns. He's one of the best hockey minds I've seen out of a draft eligible player.

Out of the names I've seen on the top of the board, I think y'all can forget about Leonard and Reinbacher, they will go top 6 or 7. Wood strikes me as someone who will be drafted top 10, would be a great add for the Penguins if his speed concerns stay (Sully will love that). Cristall is fun but I view him as riskier, like you better have a plan to improve his weaknesses. Excellent upside.

Yager would not be considered by me: he needs development time AND I don't think his upside warrants a pick in the top 15. Allergic to the inside, overrated defensively (Danielson is a better bet as far as tracking assignments) and his playmaking is basic at this point. His wicked release and straight line mobility has carried him. Underwhelming tracked metrics suggest he's more of a passenger on his WHL team.

Found this on Twitter, he uses a more realistic approach and takes into consideration who might be available for the Pens at #14

this is a nice write up, who is this guy? Does he write about Pens a lot? I would not mind subscribing if he is writing about Pens

I don't know him either. I stumbled upon him by chance in the comments on Twitter. It seems that this was also his first article.

wood will be a good pick for some team not the pen's. wood plays a very soft game for his size. this could easily be coached out of him, but sully would only encourage it.
