I'm confused by these posts. I go on seatgeek and stubhub and there's many, many tickets available for $15-$35 depending on game/seat. Why are these tickets not an option for Manitobans?

Rebuilding in Canada is tough. Jets may resist doing it now to save attendance. Long-term, that is probably not the best strategy.
Since when?

If anything rebuilding is a way better strategy than the demoralizing realization that AT BEST your team can be a 6-8 seed and maybe (if everything goes perfectly), you can win a round, but you have ZERO chance of winning the cup.

Being perpetually bad isn't any worse than being perpetually mediocre, at least when you are perpetually bad there is always a new prospect to look forward to. There is nothing for Jets fans to look forward to, I guess maybe Schief and Helle being good players? Lol

A rebuild could allow the team to lower prices and build up good will with the fans while also introducing the game to new people, but obviously owners don't think like this. It's why Toronto went a decade of trying to "compete" with mediocre teams instead of just biting the bullet and all the way sucking (as opposed to just kinda sucking)

Ottawa hasn't qualified for the playoffs in 6 years. Edmonton didn't qualify for 10 years and it took getting a generational talent to get them back to being a competitive team. Vancouver has missed in 8 of the last 9 years. Buffalo is a US market but similar to Canada, they've missed for 11 years.

Sure, they could lower prices, introduce new people to the game, but they'd be introducing them to a team that would likely spend close to a decade losing.

What's the alternative? To be like Winnipeg treading water with absolutely zero chance of winning the cup, is a 1st round stomping that much better than missing the playoffs?

Rebuilds aren't a sure thing, but being caught in no man's land where you're not rebuilding nor contending is even worse imo, but to each their own.

i wont because i dont care to!

using a website like Statista would be the same as me getting a comment from this forum as my research for a school project

theres a reason high schools and colleges taught how to research and what good and bad sources are!

the internet used to be a must more trustworthy place.. but nowadays the first 100+ links on a google search are bullshit websites compiled by AI-scraping

misinformation is much easier to come by nowadays since internet law doesnt yet exist and its cheaper to bot a website and brute force it to the top of google with fake information that still gets clicks for advertisers

How is this source? https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news/2010/10/29/thrashers-tix-among-cheapest.html

Fair enough about Statista being bad. It's just hard to find this data, and is annoying when posters claim something, with nothing to back it up, when they are talking about something so objective as ticket prices

A 1st round gets ticket sales and playoff revenue.

I'm not suggesting rebuilds are avoidable but I can understand a small market trying to avoid it as long as possible and not voluntarily starting one. Rebuilds sell the future but the future doesn't sell tickets.

Thrashers tickets were pretty cheap. But they also didn’t make the playoffs in their last 4 years of existence either. If the Jets think that first round playoff exits are stale, wait until you miss entirely year after year after year.

So 2-3 extra games a year vs losing 1000s every game

That's also paywalled, but I think the point is that tickets, at least when Atlanta Spirit owned them, weren't necessarily close to being "the highest in the league".

At the time that article was published, it was the start of their final season in Atlanta, as estranged part-owner Steve Belkin settled with the other seven owners under the Atlanta Spirit name. Why the BoG allowed the team to be sold to an eight-member group in the first place is a question only Bettman can answer. But with all this said, I think this would quickly veer towards issues that have been discussed, in detail, ad nauseam, in various Atlanta threads on the Business board.

Winnipeg is an embarrassment to Canada and doesn't deserve a team if they can't fill an arena with an average NHL team. The fact is, the population base is not sufficient to support a team. Move it to a city that can support an NHL team like Houston. How Houston does not have a team is beyond me. 7.3M people in Houston / Greater Houston area and no NHL team.

Well, Mumbai has 20 million, so maybe we could put 2-3 teams there? Thoughts?

Its the state of the Canadian economy, We will see it appear 1st in the smaller market teams then move on to the bigger markets.
Its hard to spend the extra money when rent is almost double, bread 3 times as much etc.
