Not believing this at all. There’s your current COL prices for ordinary items. If you paid 30 bucks than you might want to shop elsewhere.

According to this, it should have cost you about 11 Canuck bucks. That’s the average for Montreal.

I can confirm that it should be around 12-15 $ max for bread, butter, eggs and milk in Mtl.

My property tax didn't climb up by 7k either but by a few hundred dollars and i live on the Island. Doesn't mean inflation isn't hitting hard and the interest rate are really impactful. Makes sense hockey game are the first things people may cut in their budget.

I live in a single dwelling Cape Cod house in NDG (the ones made for World War 2 veterans).

Valuation went from $450k to $1.2million during the pandemic. So yeah it was a $7k hike.

And bullshit on $12.
Butter alone has been $7.50-$8.99 for well over a year.

Our NDG facebook group announces whenever Butter goes "on sale" for $6.

It's honestly the only thing I could find, so really if the other poster had a link to how much Thrashers tickets were and we could compare it would be cool. But he doesn't, and I looked and it's not easy to find. He was just making stuff up.
I get it. Some of that old data can be really hard, if not impossible, to find. From personal experience, I've paid over that average for seats in the 300s, and below that average for seats in the 200s, based on factors such as which team is in town, when I bought the tickets, and where I bought the tickets. The last game I was able to attend, a game where the Red Wings were in town, I sat behind the goal (Red Wings attack twice, because that also made a difference in pricing) and paid $50 for the ticket four rows up from ice level 30 minutes before game time.

So I can't speak for everyone who visited Philips and saw a game, but there are definitely variations in pricing that a number on a graph just can't really put into context.

In your first post you claimed you bought generic stuff. That photo doesn’t look like it was generic products. Not sure how you operate, but when I had the choice of going to expensive Whole Foods or much cheaper Safeway (for example)for basic shit I always went to the grocery store I knew was cheap instead of Whole Foods or speciality markets.

Wadda ya mean I am not allowed to comment because I don’t live in Canada? When did that become a rule? I find people who post BS about food prices have an agenda and I like to call it out when I see it.

Still not buying your story, just takes a google search to myth bust your story. Here I’ll help you out eh

I am more in the eastern part of the town so yeah evaluation most have gone higher in NDG. So yeah bummer for you even if it's a good news when you'll sale.

For the groceries, my bread cost around 3.5 $, eggs (12) around 4 $, butter around 6.5 $ (selection brand at metro) and milk (1L) around 2 $ = 16 $ or 18 $ if you go for a 2L.

I just checked the price again to be more precise. All current prices at Metro.

When they moved from Atlanta, I remember Bettman saying something like how the only way the arena in Winnipeg would work is if they sold out every game.
I'll never forget that. I don't recall him introducing any other new teams with veiled threats before or since. What a weird approach.

One of my favourite things to do is read the first page of a thread, then skip to the last and see how derailed it got.

Went from southern market fans shitting on Winnipeg/Canadian hockey market all the way to guys arguing about the price of butter.

10/10.
I honestly thought I was the only one to do this.

Never thought I’d see a discussion about attendance at an NHL turn into a debate about butter prices….. then again I usually use Country Crock.

And I’ve been mainly on the receiving end of these little intellectual spats since 2009.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

With the exception of Dubois that doesn't really happen, their #1 center and franchise goalie could have done it, they didn't.

You can add trouba to that category, but those two are more extreme cases that are only a part of my argument.

I'm just talking about the general perception. Players around the league generally have Winnipeg at the bottom with respect to places they enjoy visiting the most on the road.

Internally, there always seems to be rumbling of a player wanting to leave even if they don't completely try to twist the arm of management like trouba and Dubois.

I mean, even for guys who signed long term deals like hellebuyck and scheifele, the smoke was consistently there that they will move on, and that usually means there's some truth to the idea that they would enjoy a move out of town.

I'm happy for jets fans that they were ultimately able to retain those two guys, but it feels more like they had to bend over backwards to do it than anything else.

For jets fans, constantly hearing about player x wanting to go, or what players generally think about the city can be grating when it's a consistent theme over several years.

In conjunction with this, the jets management already posted some subtle threats to their fanbase relating to their financial stability, which fans don't want to hear or associate their entertainment dollar to.

With that eroding connection to the players, and organization, are many of the fans who are feeling the pinch in the new economic reality going to be prioritizing jets hockey?

they should

another Canadian team would be great for the next Canadian TV deal, which will probably beat the current ESPN/TNT deal
Honestly, I do hope to see QC return as well. But there will always be that lingering question of how the market would be able to withstand a time of economic downturn, and whether ownership and fans alike would be able to handle it.

Aside from the economic downturn and exchange rate fluctuations, which will always hit the small market Canadian teams first, I also think QC would struggle maintaining that connection with their team for reasons similar to Winnipeg.

Hearing retired players talk about their experiences in QC, it sounds like players loved visiting the city, but players didn't love residing there as a Nordique as much, particularly if you are not of French Canadian descent.

I don't want to go too deep into the lindros saga, but while I think there was truth to the fact that he didn't want to go there because of the owner, I also don't believe that there weren't other factors involved.

I don't disagree with these sort of things being challenges for QC, Things could be different there now too. I've never been to the city, but visiting is definitely on my to-do list.

At the end of the day, it depends on the league's owners and whether they want to add a team in QC, and has nothing to do with what any fan thinks. I think that's one of the biggest reasons why we hear so much more about potential markets, whether new (HOU, SLC, SD) or returning (ATL).

It would have to be a perfect storm I think for QC to come back the way the ducks lined up for Winnipeg.

The jets had incredible financial backing, the thrashers had to move quickly, and no other markets were fully committed or ready to take the team.

It sound like if the league has another Atlanta thrasher situation tommorow, QC will be in a much different environment than Winnipeg was, and have alot more competition if they try to bring a team there.

I look to QC as a an insurance policy for the league.... Where they have an owner who can back the team, and a building is in place... But if the league has other options with high growth potential, it pushes QC back in the queue.

Absolutely. Especially with how much more closely the league appears to be vetting potential owners. We can see that with bow both Vegas and Seattle came together.

It was getting better, but COVID killed it.

The amount of homelessness, shelters, encampments, and meth users is staggering. The downtown area will never be revitalized with these issues. The bottom line is a lot of people are struggling financially and the entertainment value you get is poor considering the price. Why would anyone spend $300 for a couple of hours of entertainment on a week night when you can stretch out on the couch and watch the game for peanuts at home on a big screen? Gone are the days when you could grab tickets, food and a couple drinks for a couple hours of wages.
