Edvinsson was the higher pick, has had more hype, has better measurables.... all this is to say that you're taking the easy way out with your position here lol. (I'm mostly kidding, Frk It, don't hate me)

Seriously though, Edvinsson has an incredibly high floor. Size, skating, transition game, no huge holes in his defense. He's an NHL regular at a bare minimum. His ceiling remains a question to me though. I'm not poo-pooing him, he may go off and be a perennial all-star and I won't be surprised. But his ultimate ceiling remains a little blurry. Being a dependable #3, with solid defense, excellent transition game, and averaging 30 points also won't surprise me.

Enter ASP. His star has risen like a Saturn V hauling ass to the moon and back. Completely different type of dman, but his ceiling, based primarily on his offense, has reached that of #2, PP1, 70-point guy (his floor remains "not an NHL regular" though). And if he hits that ceiling, how confident are we that Ed surpasses that value?

Overall, Ed is the better prospect, and I expect him to be the more valuable player. But if ASP hits his ceiling and Ed only hits his floor, well, you're going to look pretty silly! :sarcasm:
I just see less limiting factors with Edvinsson. Hell, not sure I see any limiting factors with Edvinsson really.

It’s like what we are seeing with Dobson right now. When you are that big and skate that well and show offense at lower levels, there’s nothing really limiting you as a player.

Besides the Wings' leadership?

I remember watching Sproul with the Soo and thinking he could be our Mike Green back then lol. I'm Hopeful for ASP though, only seen highlites but looks really smooth

the sad thing is the 5 players who won CHL Defenseman of the year before Sproul were Dougie Hamilton,Ryan Ellis,David Savard,Jonathon Blum,Karl Alzner and the 5 who won it after were Derrick Pouliot, Tony DeAngelo, Ivan Provorov, Thomas Chabot, and Nicolas Hague

that's a pretty strong list of players

I blame that string of busts less on the individual players and more on the Wings development system at the time.

When almost every high-skill player you draft busts you have to start looking in the mirror.

and Wallstedt has a .847 save percentage over his last 5 AHL games

it's not at all out of the realm of possibility that Cossa might finish the season with better stats than Wallstedt this year, Wallstedt just went from a .934 to a .916 on the season in his past 5 games and Cossa went from a .896 to a .907 in his last 5 games

Did that one blowout in the big leagues shake his confidence a bit?

Lost in all of this is that my goalie draft crush, Askarov, is doing better than all these busts.

maybe

he's only played 1 game since then though most of these were before that, he's been filling in on the bench in the NHL as a backup the past couple weeks

apparently he's playing in his AHL teams game tonight for the first time in a while though

3 goals allowed for Wallstedt already tonight in his first game in a while and the first period isn't even halfway over yet

i'm not surprised that it happened at some point but I really thought it would at least take more than a handful of hours after I typed that post

Buium has been point per game lately. I doubt know why ESPN never shows Denver pioneers . Just looking at game stats, he is not on the same line with his brother

I wish we picked him over our pick that year so bad right now.

That’s what happens when you have an Austrian center on your team.

Rossi is full time in the NHL now and Wallstedt becomes Buststedt.

Kasper is on fire and SeBUSTian becomes SeBASTION.

Is there some development curve for Cossa's sv% ?

This will remind so much of his ECHL season development.

bit outdated at this point since he's played a few games since then but someone posted a graph in the Griffins thread couple weeks ago for his AHL stats this year:

Y'all made me interested in how Cossa was trending, so I made a quick graph showing the rolling average of his save percentage

Just listened to the Mazur interview on Winged Wheel podcast.

Some things of note:
Thinks Kasper is the hardest worker on the team and will go at people just as hard in practice as he does in games.
Thinks AlJo is the most underrated player and best defenseman on the team.
Believes he's got another gear to his game.
Talked about what a shit disturber Berggren is.

Yous guys should give it a listen.
