The commentators of the UND/Denver game last night called James an "elite penalty killer". So, there's that at least.
He is highly effective without the puck with his speed and drive. The dude can force rushed passes and create turnovers. I'm hoping for at least a pittance more of offense though.

Ya your right niederbach has been a disappointment, wouldn't be against trying him in g.r for a season though if he sucks send him back

As for Hanas ya hes been a disappointment as well and been pretty much on the 4th line all season I believe... with the likes of kasper danielson berggren soderblom mazur yet to even make the team id have 0 issues throwing him in a deal as at this point hes going to have a really hard time to ever crack the lineup

The dude is too soft for Swedish hockey. He’d be dead in the ECHL or AHL.

It doesn't quite work that way. If they sign him to an ELC, he ties up a contract spot for 3 years. Given that teams can only carry 50 contracts, tying up a spot on that much of a longshot likely isn't worth it.

Thought I had seen players signed to 2 years? Guess I'm wrong oh well ... guessing if we keep bednar could be 1-2 years since hes in Toledo??

The length of the ELC depends on the age of the player. Here is a breakdown of the contract length:

  • 18-21 years of age: 3 years
  • 22-23 years of age: 2 years
  • 24 years of age: 1 year
Ummm bednar turns 22 in august but since hes in the echl already guessing hed be able to sign 2 years? That chart is just for your first contract

That being said niederbach will be 22 next month

I Know Edvinsson is above him on the pecking order but what is the plan with Albert Johansson? People in and and around the organization seem to only speak highly of him yet he is an RFA after this season and he hasn't even seen a cup of coffee.

Is he still waiver exempt after this season?

He has improved this season for sure, but I am afraid he is a bit of a tweener at the NHL level.

For sure they should keep him

ASP apparently returned from injury today.

I am so excited for this guy. Edvinsson gets all the attention but I think ASP has the most potential of any of the Wings' D prospects.

I know our expectations are tempered by the failures of Ouelette, Marchenko, Almquist, Sproul 10 years ago, but none of those guys were able to dominate men's leagues. ASP is performing well in one of the top-5 men's leagues in the world, and I think his skills will translate to smaller ice.

I disagree with that, I think Edvinsson has the most upside of any of our prospects by a good gap.

In the words of Monty Python, "Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who. This is a happy occasion!"

I can't wait for guys like Edvinsson and ASP to replace guys like Holl and Petry.

I remember watching Sproul with the Soo and thinking he could be our Mike Green back then lol. I'm Hopeful for ASP though, only seen highlites but looks really smooth

Edvinsson was the higher pick, has had more hype, has better measurables.... all this is to say that you're taking the easy way out with your position here lol. (I'm mostly kidding, Frk It, don't hate me)

Seriously though, Edvinsson has an incredibly high floor. Size, skating, transition game, no huge holes in his defense. He's an NHL regular at a bare minimum. His ceiling remains a question to me though. I'm not poo-pooing him, he may go off and be a perennial all-star and I won't be surprised. But his ultimate ceiling remains a little blurry. Being a dependable #3, with solid defense, excellent transition game, and averaging 30 points also won't surprise me.

Enter ASP. His star has risen like a Saturn V hauling ass to the moon and back. Completely different type of dman, but his ceiling, based primarily on his offense, has reached that of #2, PP1, 70-point guy (his floor remains "not an NHL regular" though). And if he hits that ceiling, how confident are we that Ed surpasses that value?

Overall, Ed is the better prospect, and I expect him to be the more valuable player. But if ASP hits his ceiling and Ed only hits his floor, well, you're going to look pretty silly! :sarcasm:
