Guo should get a match too! 2 handed baseball swing at Nesbitts head. He missed thankfully.
I’m going to go back and rewatch that. I swear that’s what I saw but it happened quick. Is his 2 minutes reviewable by the league? Parekh and Guo are both repeat offenders, no? Similar stick related incidents? Could mean bad news for Saginaw, especially if Okes to miss any more time.

I will say, I liked Saginaw better in this game than Windsor when we got our teeth kicked in by Sudbury. At least they had some sort of fight.

That being said, if you wanna go, go. Wanna make a hit, do it. The high cross checked and two handed slashes don’t have a place in this game. I still think you raise that fight limit, and it settles this a bit.

Just a quick couple of things regarding the two incidents while I have a minute...

- Parekh got 5 min match penalty, which I believe is an automatic two games and a league review. It was a completely unnecessary shot on Martin, who was just skating into the area. Then, another shot, which sent Martin to the ice. Stupid moves on Parekh's part; even with the officials there, Martin got in a good shot.

- The Guo swing needs to be sent to the league. He didn't connect but, I saw a replay on Instagram, and it was a clear baseball swing. The fact that they didn't give him 5 for the slash is insane.

Impressive Windsor victory with their 4th straight win,5 unbeaten in regulation, now
4-0-1 and 6-1-1 in their last 8.
Interesting stat re tonight's 7-2 blowout,14 of Windsor's 18 skaters exclude the 2 tenders registered at least 1 point ,and 5 of them had multiple points, Potras (3),Greentree [3],Abraham (2),Woodall (2),Davis (2).
The only guys with 0 points tonight were Manzo,Mathurin, Garden and Martin.
Joey Costanzo was solid to record his 16th win of the season.
Spits were 3/8 on the PP,4 for 7 the last game vs Ottawa btw and 4/4 on the PK.
Team seems to be on a nice roll, not perfect of course but damn good in all areas.
Next game against Saginaw which is a week from this coming Sunday in Windsor,I would dress Winegard, Eichler and Gaymes, and rest Manzo, Hicks and Garden, not punishment but a statement against a dirty Saginaw team.

Eichler and Gaymes probably wish they weren't scratched today they wouldve had a bit of fun lol

I'm not sure it would have been a good thing. I like both players and appreciate what they bring, but I don't know that they wouldn't have started something unnecessary. There wasn't a situation where Windsor was in a definite disadvantage where having Eichler or Gaymes on the ice would have changed things for the better.

I agree to an extent. Would’ve loved to personally watch Gaymes go with someone tonight and Eichler lay a couple stiff checks in. But yeah, it may have balanced the penalty minutes some. Spits IMO played disciplined and made Saginaw look ridiculous. Feel for the kid that got stuck between the pipes for his first OHL game… I don’t think he’s even been on the bench for one before tonight.

Getting blown out by a division rival, that’s up 9 points on you… and you’re in second 1/3 into the season. Then you try and mix it up to get something going, and it feels like half the team is 6’4” 200+. Martin centering Garden and Lemeuix is a great place for him. Garden gets picked on a bit.

That was an interesting game. Parekh is a great player but someone needs to explain to him his dirty plays can't keep happening. He is lucky the ref was there and Martin was slightly shaken up on the play. He was suspended last year for a despicable act in Peterborough.

The swing of the stick by Guo on Nesbitt was worse than the Parekh play, you legit heard an audible gasp from the crowd when Guo swung his stick just missing Nesbitt's head. If that connected, you're looking at a disastrous sequence.

That play needs to be suspended, it was one of the dirtiest plays I've ever seen in at the WFCU, thank god it missed. Saginaw goons it up when losing, if you want to fight that's one thing, but these dangerous hacks and swings are going too far. This is why the fight limit needs to be changed to 10 fights or so . Players don't want to use up their fights and start swinging.

Anyways, Spits now are 11 points ahead of Saginaw atop the division. Misa is back for a weekend then gone for nearly a month. I can't see them giving up this huge cushion.

As a Spits fan, there is nothing to complain about. Hicks was throwing some hits, he is going to be a good one. Beauty goal by Belchetz and Protas is in beast mode. Gotta avoid a classic 'trap game' on Friday against Guelph after an emotional game against Saginaw.

10 Game Limit is an average of once every 7 games - ish. I’d be okay with the limit being 7… once every 10. With guys like Martin and Gaymes and the depth we have, if they fight a 4th time and then miss a game, it’s no big deal, but teams shouldn’t have to carry an extra “enforcer” (loose term these days) so that their main one can take the suspensions.

If this is going to be a “development league for refs” too, and the leagues okay with some things that get missed when they’re policing the game, they need to open up some leeway to let the players do it as well. Would’ve totally understood if someone on Saginaw went after Hicks for the checking from behind. Having guys like Martin and Gaymes only able to go on average 1 in 23 games, makes other guys who shouldn’t be fighting have to step up.. or just let their buddies get knocked around til someone gets seriously hurt.

A major was ‘called’ and reduced to 2 because it didn’t connect bad? But they Called the major so they could review it?

I mean a high stick isn’t a high stick unless it hits someone, so I guess a slash isn’t a slash until it connects. Can only call what actually happened, however, there was malicious intent. If Nesbitt wasn’t falling, it would’ve cracked him right in the side of the head. I hope the league reviews it.

I’m not a doctor, but I’m much more worried about a guy taking a stick to the side of the head then getting lit up for having his head down when getting checked.

Not great quality but here’s the Guo/Nesbitt play that started the fight.

This is the same James Guo that got a 5 game suspension for a similar slash to the head earlier this year in April.

I've said recently that 5 or 6 should be a solid target; that gives you a fight every 10-12 games. Right now, three seems very small in the big picture.

Okay, thoughts on the game as a whole...

Goals against - both were defensive breakdowns.

The good:

- multi-point games from Protas, Greentree, Abraham, Davis, and Woodall. 14 players with points in total.
- 3/8 on the PP. Aside from a really weird 5-on-3 that they blew, it's hard to complain about it.
- Costanzo with 31 saves; it kind of got lost in all the chaos but another fantastic game from Joey.
- The idea that they figured out how to shoot from anywhere is definitely a positive.
- Most of the scrums, but I'll get into detail with those later...

The bad:

- Not a great start and they were kind of lucky that Misa and Oke weren't around.
- That 5-on-3 was really bad. I couldn't tell if they were taking it easy or they just messed it up. Maybe both?
- A fairly disorganized game at times. They weren't passing great and seemed sloppy here and there.

Onto the incidents...

- Parekh - I don't know what he was thinking. Honestly. Martin skates over at the net and Parekh crosschecks him in the face. Martin skates away and gets another shot to the lower back, dropping Martin. Officials jump in. Martin gets up, shakes off the gloves, and nails Parekh with a right. The officials and Parekh drop as a Spirit player comes over to get Martin. Parekh gets 5 min match penalty for crosschecking, which I think is an automatic 2 games + review. I don't see what the point of the entire thing was. Push Martin away if you don't want him there. Then, to add the second shot is just asking to get punched. Martin isn't the guy you want to try that with.

- Guo/Nesbitt - Collision along the boards and Guo goes down. They skate a bit and collide again. As Nesbitt falls, Guo is falling and takes a baseball swing with his stick. A very clear "oooooo" from the crowd. They get up, drop 'em, handful of punches each, then Nesbitt gets the takedown. As that's going on, Belchetz and Cloutier start talking and grabbing on, while Woodall and Willis are doing their thing. I have no idea how Woodall got 4 for his part; that's nearly a fight and I didn't see anything close to justify that. The 10-min misc for "failing to clear the zone" is a newer one to me but I've seen it at least once this season.

- There were more incidents but they were stupid things that added up to bigger things. Hicks was lucky to not get 5/GM for his hit. I have no idea how the Manzo/Glavin one started, but Walton had someone in a headlock at one point.

This was a game of frustration coming to a near boiling point. A lot of unnecessary stupidity by veteran players. But, take the two points, get up on the Spirit by 11 in the standings, and move onto Guelph on Friday.

I think the failure to clear the zone even though they were on the other side of the rink is the, “it wasn’t a second fight”, “we don’t wanna give you a misconduct and a game”, but “were not going to let this go for nothing” call.

Parekh, I think could’ve got off the hook a little without the second cross check. He had a little claim, I went to push him and my stick happened to be there, but the follow up is the no regret for what he just did.

Looked like Nesbitt bumped Guo good before that as well right outside the zone, knocked him down the 2nd time along the boards, Guo came at him for their third bump, got shrugged off and did a good 360 hack with his stick on an upwards trajectory. Maybe he was off balance? But still. Far from playing the puck.

Lots of great posts on last night's game. A couple of points to add. Impressed with Abraham last night. Not only a couple of goals but stayed out of the scrums, maybe none happened while he was on the ice but clearly seemed only interested in playing hockey when he was out there.

I know I've said this before but love Nesbitt playing with Belchetz . Nesbitt looks and plays like a 19 yr old and is not backing down so he is good at keeping the wolves away from Belchetz. Forget sometimes he is only a second year player.

And of course the 4 amigos- all 4 o8's were right in the middle of the rough stuff and showed no sign of backing down. They are all going to be great. Bright future in Windsor. ( although did not like the Hicks hit). Be safe.

Imho. Refs damn near lost control last night. Was not a good look for the league!
Spits were bad in the first, bad goalie saved them…
Glad they kept their composure it coulda got real ugly.
I know the OHL refs aren’t great. But I’m not sure what else could’ve been done last night. Refs were handing out 10 minute misconducts like candy on Halloween. Linesmen were in everything but the Guo/Nesbitt incident which was behind the play.

The game was looking spirits way before the early penalty and Abrahams short side goal.

You have Guo who was suspended less than a year ago for a hack to the head in a Soo Playoff Game. You have Parekh in trouble for dangerous head checks, spitting on opponents, and *alleged* fan incidents.

When Guys have been suspended, and don’t seem to care I’m not sure what else the refs can do.

Spirit had 5 guys on the bench in the third. I Thought they were about to strip the pads of Papineu and let him go play center.

Windsor with another win.
Wasn't a good game generally.
Windsor wanted to play hockey. Spirit just wanted to muck it up.
Made for a awful slow no flow bad game.
Refs lost the game somewhere in the 1st period and it got worst from there.
Defensively for Windsor they r lucky Spirit did not want to play as they weren't great at all.
But terrible goaltending by Spirit gave Windsor big lead.
Joey played well.
