Another week, another key injury as Dionicio is now out along with Greentree. Harrison is playing. Saginaw has Misa back.
Appears to be a near sell out crowd.

The qmjhl is going to have a vote in June by the league board to possibly ban fighting next year.

I believe it is a big mistake. No protection for key players means liberties will ensue. So how do you settle the score?? A 5 minute major penalty for blind siding, charging, head check, stick to the face , butt end? No recourse leaves players more vulnerable than fighting. Injuries will likely increase from cheap shots. Seldom a player gets hurt fighting but it settles a score. Just my opinion this is the wrong path with the speed of the game today.

OT win. The usual ugly but 2 points. Certainly don't need Peer injured. Didn't see him late or on the ice after the game. Greentree reported out for remainder of the regular season. Hope that is incorrect. Abraham reported month to month does not sound good at all.

At least we have 8 forwards…

Got the job done in overtime. The squad did not play a good game but the skill guys came through. Playing with 9 forwards is taking its toll on these guys, they are gassed. Maggio was hunched over after every shift. Every game you look at the opponent and they all have 12 forwards. Now Peer, who was having a spectacular night, goes down with injury along with Greentree, Abraham, and Spellacy.

Man, why does Savard prefer Onuska over Costanzo??? It does not make any sense, another subpar performance from him, he rarely makes a big save when needed. It's going to cost this team in the playoffs. Last thing we need with all the injuries is a stubborn coach costing us games in the playoffs.

Does anyone else think Savard should go with Dionicio at forward this weekend in the SOO considering the squad is down to only 8 forwards? I think he should assuming he is healthy enough to play.

Just get healthy by the playoffs. London dropped their game against Guelph, so if the Spitfires can go 4-1 in their last 5 games it guarantees 1st in the conference. If they get some guys back they should be able to get that 1st spot. Congrats to Maggio on #50.

Huge props to Maggio on 50. Didn’t realize he’s the first Spit since Steve Ott to do it. *Luchuk did it in 17-18 but only 28 of his 50 were with Windsor. He hit 50 in Barrie*

Hope Peer is alright. Somewhere in the third I started noticing a lot more castle and realized Peer didn’t go back out for another shift. Still finished with 2G and 3rd star and only played 2/3 the game.

The forward situation is brutal. I think our defensemen isn’t as much of a problem as the defense our offense plays. D’s got their guys, and our guys are too winded to pick up those guys trailing in and getting beat every time.

With where we’re at, I don’t think any of the guys we’ve brought up are unsuitable. Especially for a trip to an already eliminated Soo.

I know LaSalle complicated things but McManus, McLlwan, Davis are all suitable to eat some minutes this weekend if we get comfortable leads.

Woodall looked comfortable and they were regularly putting Woodall and McManus out there apart of a shut down line after Windsor scored.

It was nice to hold Saginaw to at least 4 minutes before allowing them to respond. Not great, but better.

Good to see Harrison back if nothing more than a body, which is a horrible thing to say.
If Dionicio feels good to go, I’m starting him up front. Hopefully we can make a call or two and get at least 10 other forwards to take on the trip.

With London’s loss, we also now officially hold the tiebreaker.

A Windsor Regulation or OT Win/Sarnia Loss gives us the tiebreaker with Sarnia as well. (Could happen as early as Friday)

I think I’m more worried now with Sarnia on our tail about winning the division than I am about the conference.

If we’re able to get to 94 points (3 more wins) We clinch the division. Sarnia losses could obviously bring this number down, but the Spits control their own fate right now.

We could win the division before the final Home/Home with London. As fun as that series will be, if we’re able to rest any of our guys with nagging injuries and not have it impact our playoff position, I’m all for it.

Sarnia has a game in hand so another loss by them will be required for us to clinch the division.

A few thoughts now that I have the chance...

- First off, a big congrats to Maggio for his 50th! Great kid, very team-first, and he seemed to be enjoying this one (finally).
- Not surprising that Saginaw made this a close game. They're fighting for home ice and, whether they play OS or Flint, that's significant.
- Dionicio gets sidelined with an illness and Peer leaves late. Hopefully it's nothing serious in either case. It feels like they're losing them every week, which is frustrating.
- 23 shots won't cut it for very long. Even with a depleted lineup, they have to find a way.
- I don't think Onuska played all that bad. One quick shot, a screened shot, a deflected shot, and a total lack of D. I'll give him the benefit on this.
- The Soo won't be an easy two games but I also have a bit more confidence with this pair than most other road trips.
- While I'm glad London lost, Windsor can't stop the gas pedal. The Knights will come back at some point... it feels inevitable.

Windsor win a ugly game.
All points matter though.
Maggio with 50.
Team threw a couple of hits.
Not many shots.
Defense useless.
Wright and Maillet played well.
Off to soo which should be 4 points.

I agree about the defense. Spits getting pinned in their own end for 2/3 of the game. It is really all about the forwards not picking up their assignments. Missed checks, losing puck battles or being flat out beat to the puck. Defense is moving the puck out around the boards only to have Saginaw be the first one to the puck. Looked like a powerplay for long periods. Forward group has to pick it up in our end. I could list names but we all know the culprits. We have been saying this for months. Not confident it will change. Spits just plain make it hard on themselves. 1st place team in the conference shows there is high end talent up front. Need far more of a 2 way game from them.

Maggio with a breakaway 50th goal. Nice to see and not the classic off the butt and in that seems to happen for those!

I'm hearing only 1 player joining them from LaSalle on the road trip. Dionicio and/or Jodoin will need to play some forward minutes this weekend. Really need Peer in the lineup but this weekend is probably the best case scenario if he has to miss. Next weekend all hands on deck is more important.

Looking forward to this weekends games. Mark Matier is my favorite colour broadcaster in the league.

Go Spits Go!!!
