No f***ing way as a Leafs fan. Georgiev is a mediocre backup with a terrible attitude, his value is low - a 4th maybe? So this is basically Nylander for Laf, and right now Nylander is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY better. I’m sure Laf will improve, but there’s a good chance he never reaches Nylander’s level, why would we gamble? Plus we’re a win now team, Nylander for Laf is a big step backwards now, it makes zero sense for us.
I saw his 44-save shutout game, and I can see he is good at positioning, but his rebound control is bad.

115 GP 40 Points. Don’t think because someone was taking first overall they can’t bust. Think Patrick Stefan and Alexander Daigle. If you are not even a tad concern you’re living in denial.

And what had Nylander done at the same age? Sweet f*** all is what.

Nylander scored 74 points in his first 103 games played and is continually improving (with the exception of his holdout year).

So you’re saying that at 20 that Laf is done developing and won’t get any better?

He doesnt have to get better. So you are saying at 20 Laff is automatic to be an all star? I mean sure, he might pan out yet but maybe this is as good as he gets. Maybe he gets 20% better. Maybe not. Seems like there are a lot of Ranger fans holding on to his draft position for hope. How did that work out for Oiler fans with Yakupov?

I’m not saying he automatic to be anything. I’m saying it is premature to judge him based on his first two years and I noted that by the end of his D+2 year Nylander was far from an established player.

There’s clearly huge upside with Laf still, I see it every time I watch the Rangers. He has a couple of weaknesses (notably skating) that hold him back a bit at the moment but at 20 with a good off-season he can easily address them.

I agree Laf will improve but Nylander did have 61 points in 82 games as a 20 year old and 13 in 22 as a 19 year old. That is abit more than “sweet f*** all”

96 bday - 2016-17 season (the same age Laf is now), Nylander had 61 points in 81 games.
in his rookie season 13 points in 22 games.
01 bday - 2020-21 Rookie season Laf scored 21 points (1 less than Nylander) but played 34 more games.
in season 2, 2021-22 (same age as Nylander's 2016-17 season) he is barely better than his rookie season with 22 points in 62 games.

so, i think you are very wrong in your assessment

When Nylander was exactly the same age as Lafreniere is now, he had 22 games and 13 points. Age is measured in years and days, not in number of NHL seasons.

Actually you are incorrect. Nylander was 19 years old that season. After the season was over he turned 20. Lafreniere was one of the oldest players in his draft year, while Nylander was one of the younger players in his draft, that's probably why you are confused. Nylander's 20 years old was in 2016-2017 season when he scored 22 goals 61 points in 81 games. Age is measured in years and days, not in number of post draft seasons.

Lafreniene is 20 years and 165 days old. Nylander was 20 years and 165 days old on Oct 9 2016 (give or take a day).

All though, I do admit that a year from now, Nylander's start will very likely eclipse Laf's.
