Too much risk for the Leafs. Nylander may have his flaws but he's still a consistent 60+ point player

Lafreniere looks like Yakupov 2.0 and Georgiev isn't any better than Mrazek.

If Nylander is traded, it should be for a dman like Chychrun.
Lafreniere is worse than yakupov in every way. At this point I am not sure if I would even offer a 3rd rounder for Lafreniere.

Wow... i'm surprised lafrenière is seen that way. Habs should offer lehkonen vs laf+2nd with what's being said here.

He's just 20 for christ's sake.
Yup. And so was Yakupov when he had more points per game and was more effective than Lafreniere at age 20. You are lucky if he turns out to be as good as patrik Stefan or Nolan Patrick at this point.

Imagine if the oilers won the lottery back then and got lafreniere. This board will say the oilers ruined another 1st pick. Hahahaa

At the time of the draft I was thinking imagine McDavid draisaitl and lafreniere on the powerplay. Fast forward to today. Lafreniere would be battling Warren f***ing foegele for a spot in the 2nd pp unit. How sad is that.

115 GP 40 Points. Don’t think because someone was taking first overall they can’t bust. Think Patrick Stefan and Alexander Daigle. If you are not even a tad concern you’re living in denial.
Dangle had about 87 points in first 115 games, not really similar.

Wow. I just checked, lafreniere is not even close to what yakupov did as an oiler ther first few seasons. This is sad how lafreniere went first overall.
Maybe you should get in touch with all the NHL scouts who had put him as #1 on their list.... Not all players are ready to play at 18 or 19. This guy needed some AHL time, which was impossible, unfortunetely.

Trying to be impartial as a Flyers fan who really doesn't like either team:

I think it would not be good for the Leafs short term.

I don't think the trade is that bad in that the Rangers get a proven scorer who helps them win now while the Leafs get a really solid future potential star. But I don't think it helps the Leafs here and now, so I would say no if I am the Leafs.

This is a proposal that completely ignores the needs of both teams. Toronto is looking to win now. Why trade the fully developed player in his prime for the younger version who is still developing? The Rangers have a massive cap crunch coming in the next two seasons. Why (and how, for that matter) are they trading an ELC player for $7m cap hit? It doesn't make sense for anyone.

Also, Laf isn't available.

Asking for a 30 goal near PPG 25 year old winger who was also high draft pick in 2014 for a guy who's upside is not as a high as Nylander's and is looking very average in his first two seasons regardless of his 1st OA status. The trade is actually laughable.

Yup. Same with yakupov. Both teams rushed their first pick. Too bad.

This post sums it up. That 1stOA status should be a thing of the past. Lafreniere showed zero flashes and it makes no sense for the leafs to make this trade. Lafreniere can fetch as much as what Nolan Patrick can fetch at the moment which is not a whole lot.

NYR would be better off keeping Laf and not sell low, just like PoolParty in EDM. There is still upside there, but his value is probably a late 1st rounder at this point.

No f***ing way as a Leafs fan. Georgiev is a mediocre backup with a terrible attitude, his value is low - a 4th maybe? So this is basically Nylander for Laf, and right now Nylander is WAYYYYYYYYYYYY better. I’m sure Laf will improve, but there’s a good chance he never reaches Nylander’s level, why would we gamble? Plus we’re a win now team, Nylander for Laf is a big step backwards now, it makes zero sense for us.
