Nylander is so frustrating to watch. He's very lackadaisical. Loves to stick check, passive, avoids checks and always the first one off on his line. If there was $7 mil. in cap space and it was a choice between Nylander and Hyman. Its a no brainer and Burkie would agree.
Hyman is a very good player, but he's nowhere close to the level of Nylander/Matthews/Marner/Tavares.

Brian Burke is also the same guy that sold the farm for Kessel. Kessel as much as I love the guy, is worse than Nylander defensively. The irony.

Take in Nylander's "off season" is being a 30 / 30 type player.

People playing too much xbox on easy mode if they think he's a weak asset.

If JT's shooting percentage wasn't so low and we had a capable second line LW all season he'd easily be point per game right now.

Yea and it's important to note that i) he's not on the 1st PP unit and ii) he's only getting like 16 minutes of ice time

He's being played like a second liner not a first liner. So should take that into account when looking at his production and comparing.

Yep Funny thing is a handful of extra secondary assists for either Nylander or Tavares this season would cause a lot of their critics to go quite even though that's not a great indicator of how well they've been playing

Thats incorrect. Hyman is the 4th most important player on this team.

So are we just going to pretend that this team didn't acquire him in exchange for Greg McKegg and that he scores less than the two UFA forwards who got the most money last fall (Toffoli & Dadanov) or what?

Nylander showed his IQ on Matthew's first goal.

Drops the puck off, but he's not done from there.

1.) Screens the D
2.) Checks the D's stick so Matthews can't be poked.
3.) Ends up in a position for a tap in if Matthews decided to fake shot and pass instead.

Then Matthews with the recognition to Bill saying niceeeee

Reminded me of the rookie years when these two gelled perfectly.

His offensive IQ is elite and Tavares has had enough chances this season to be at the 20 goal mark while playing with Nylander. The puck just hasn't been going in.

What's Greg McKegg got to do with Hymans next contract - may have missed something.

People love to rip on Willy but his line has had terrible puck luck this year, he's not getting the primary PP minutes and playing just over 16 minutes a nigbt.

Even with all that he would still lead 6 NHL teams in scoring and would be within 1 or 2 points of the leader on another 6.

We're spoiled with guys like Matthews and Marner but you literally couldn't ask for more from a secondary scorer on your team.

Yeah Burkie probably would agree, he was a terrible GM here. Kinda a week argument.

Trading Nylander for Foligno is like drafting Virtanen over Nylander.

Wafflewhipper being Jim Benning would make so much sense! Yikes.
Benning didn’t blow it by taking Virtanen over Nylander. Ehlers Is the one he missed on. Jake and willah are the misses.

You look pretty insecure having to come over here and tell us this. Must be a crushing blow seeing the "future cup contender" Canucks turn to crap again so fast.
I haven’t thought the Canucks were anything near a contender since 2011.

I do think Ehlers (currently) is superior to Nylander, but, only by a strand of hair.

Ehlers gets more ice time than Nylander per game.
Nylander's linemates just can't finish his passes, it's not his fault his line has had bad puck luck throughout the season ---- especially Jimmy Vesey and JT.

However, Ehlers is a much faster skater relative to Nylander.

All in all, Ehlers career PPG = 0.72, Nylander career PPG = 0.72.

Both these players are very good and even in terms of skills. Both of them can be streaky at times.

Right now, I like the way Nylander is playing --- he isn't extremely fast, but, he is one of the best in the NHL at zone entries (Idk why they don't use him on PP1 for zone entries). He can create separation, on par with some of the best in the NHL. IMO, the only thing stopping Nylander from becoming a flatout superstar is his lack of speed.

Seems like every year I hear from the same nylander fans how he's always unlucky.

Feel like part of that is because he seems ready to breakout, and you also see flashes of his game where he's really good; maybe he will maybe he won't though.

In my mind he definitely needs to take a big step in becoming more aggressive like Matthews has this season (and in the series against Columbus); Holl has stepped up big that way as well it seems.

Ehlers is faster but Nylander is a better skater.

Nylander also has an elite initial burst to go with his overall skating so his name shouldn't be dragged into a skating discussion unless it's to compliment him.

What? Nylander has outproduced Ehlers for almost their entire careers.

This year Ehlers has 8 more points. He missed on both Ehlers and Nylander.

Ehlers. 408 gp 295 points .72 ppg
Nylander 341 gp 251 points .72 ppg

Should do their playoff stats.

Nylanders playoff production has him at 50 points over 82 games.

Ehlers has him at 30 points over 82 games .

Ehlers would probably still have 0 playoff goals if he had to face the Bruins and Caps. After 20 or so games he finally pots one against the declining flames.

With Nylander Im expecting more out of him knowing that the talent is there. When he holds back thats when its frustrating. What I did notice last game he looked what I expect out of him when he's on his off wing. Maybe that's where he should be playing
