I don't understand how Nylanders value to the Leafs has anything to do with Pasta or Elhers?

Pasta is the best goal scoring winger in the league beyond Ovie. Most forwards in the league aren't as good as him. That doesn't mean their value to their teams suddenly vanishes...

I mentioned Pasta and Ehlers becuase they were Willie's comparables three years ago. He was in their class but they have passed by him. Hopefully Willie can catch and and surpass Ehlers once this year is done. Pasta has reached Marner's level so it will be tough to catch up to him.

You need to put Drai in there too.
Drai and Pasta and on different levels. I think Willie passed Ehlers last season but Willie dropped a bit this season offensively but his defense improves.
Having said that if you are getting paid 7mil, you need to score a few more goals

I will never understand all the Willy love. He has 26 points in 37 games, translates to about 57 points in an 82 game season, 13 goals translates to about 29 goals, LIVES on the wall contributes very little physically and defensively. Overall an OK player when you look at his total contributions. If I am making the decisions I am moving him for a top level defenseman who can QB the power play effectively OR a top 6 winger who scores at a decent rate and has significant grit to his game
He's gonna get on a hot streak eventually and make these opinions look stupid again. Look forward to it.

Yeah Willie asked for Draisaitl money to start his negotiations. He has shown that he is not even close no matter what the analytics say. At the end of the day my point was that unless he proves himself in this year's playoffs, if the Leafs decide to breakup the core, he will be the casualty.

Yup he will no doubt go on a hot streak for a number of games and probably cool off. That therein lies the problem. He can't do it consistantly and hence why he can no longer be compared to Draisaitl, Pasta, Marner, and Ehlers to a lesser extent.

Elhers has been better offensively this season so far - but I'm not sure a 20-30 game sample size is enough for anyone to say he's now definitively a better player. The two players have been very much neck and neck with each other for 90% of their NHL careers.

Pasta went through a huge and unexpected development boom. But again, that doesn't mean anything with regards to Nylander at this point in their careers.

I agree with you. Willie needs to be more consistent. There are games where he just floated and there are games that he wants the puck so much that he would maintain control of the puck without his stick against three opposing player or reaching for pucks on his stomach and forcing an ozone faceoff.

Forget all the comparisons to the players he slots with or slotted with. He is currently a 0.7 PPG player which ties him with Morgan Rielly. I'd say that is short of expectations, given the year he had last year.

I think Ehlers and Willie are pretty much the same tier. Pasta is on a different tier bc of the way he scores.

There is also a lot of hockey games left to be played in the season.

Giving nylander 10.27 mil aav for year one so that willy still gets his 7 mil after sitting out on the team for 2 months is caving.

Then add on he gets 24 million in signing bonuses compared to 0 signing bonuses for ehlers and 7 mil for pasta. Its fairly obvious to see that dubas caved on the nylander contract.

Which created an unfortunate snowball effect for the matthews and marner deals.
It's fairly obvious that Dubas gave a good contract to Nylander that he's easily living up to, and Matthews and Marner are in the same boat. Nobody reasonable is still complaining about any of them at this point

if he could get over his ptsd(wjc hit) he would be a different player but at this point i wonder if he will protect himself from that result for the rest of his career

If Dallas offered Hintz Roope and Khudobin. Its more what we need. Thats our Goalie tanden guy and scoring power winger/center. If Nylander and Rielly are the core players we could move to improve defensively and structurally.

That’s not what fans see consistently on the ice. Are they watching. No we are. Hold on to that like a pencil monkey bro
I'm guessing his teammates don't close their eyes on the bench during his shifts, and they see his work ethic outside of games too. so it definitely makes a lot more sense to assign more weight to their opinions than yours

I beg to differ. You are guessing I’m not. I know he’s a lazy a$$. They said he practices skills for extra work. Who cares. I watch him float around whenever he pleases and stops up on pucks in corners and lets the opponents get it to avoid hits. I know this guy well. Softvas butter scared sh!tless in the playoffs.
Lots see it. Super skilled. Needs to play center.

Ehlers quality of linemates is much better than Nylander's. JT looked cooked for the most of the season and the rotating left wingers haven't been great except for the short time Hyman has been there and now Galchenyuk. I'm thinking Nylander's offensive numbers look better if he has a Matthews, Connor, or Scheifele playing with him.

Ehlers has been very good all year. Yup Leafs do not have cap issues. They should be able to load up with another 1/2 dozen players willing to take the minimum. I hear Marleau might be available :sarcasm:
I just traded Nylander in the mock trade deadline. We got Marcus Foligno on Tavares wing now haha. Saves $3,800,000. Some people think it's real and are so mad. I wish it was real
