I think he’ll have a few mini heaters and get over 20. It’s hard not to ignore that he’s on decline though.
Do you have a quote on that?Ovechkin said he doesn't expect to break Gretzky's record.
That implies he's not gonna hang around as a sub-par performer just to beat Wayne.
Not a direct quote here, from Leonsis:Do you have a quote on that?
Yes I remember this but I wonder as his production really is off a 3rd line guy given elite usage. Not a direct quote here, from Leonsis:
Alex Ovechkin wants to break Wayne Gretzky’s goals record the right way. Not as a ‘third-line guy playing 8-10 minutes a game.’
Alex Ovechkin signed a five-year contract extension in the summer of 2021, but according to Capitals' owner Ted Leonsis, there were conditions…russianmachineneverbreaks.com
Fantastic!Another game goes by without an Ovechkin goal.

Will Ovi be true to his word?
Don't worry guys he will soon go on a heater and score 12 goals in 10 games (half of them ENGs) or something like that. This is what the main board intelligentsia promised us and when were they ever wrong about anything?
Remember these guys also promised us Erik Karlsson would score more points on a conservatively coached Pittsburgh team than last season on a basement dwelling San Jose team that deployed him solely for trade value pumping reasons.
These guys are smart, they know the game, and they also know aging is a social construct.
The fact that a geriatric version Patrick Kane with a resurfaced hip has already caught Ovi in the goal scoring race playing a third amount of games is only due to "puck luck"...
A friend of mine keeps telling me there is a bias to keep Ovechkin from the record from Toronto media. I told him I don't believe in conspiracy theories like that. But then, I see a really questionable goal overturned, see that he has had four or five overturned, and it is a bit head scratching. I normally watch 20+ Capitals games a year, but my job has been demanding and I'm having a hard time even keeping up with my main team, the Rangers.
Are there any available stats on the # of goals players have had overturned, to see where he compares with others? Is there any legitimacy to this?
Ovechkin should have most goals disallowed since he keeps shooting all the time, so when there is goaltender interference he will benefit from it most often since he takes most shots, pretty simple! Not really much of a feather in the hat to light the lamp when the goaltender is taken out of the play!
At 00:12 the shoulder of the Caps player bumps into the goaltender inside the crease, pretty easy to see, thats why the review was finished so quickly without hesitation!
Thats a straight line from the other side of the crease where the body bumps the goaltender, Dowds body is clearly in the crease when he bumps into the goaltender! If you are moving in direction of the crease you cant be inside the crease in case the goaltender tries to challenge the shooter!except dowd is outside the crease, can goalies just go out and randomly bump into people now?
