I think he’ll have a few mini heaters and get over 20. It’s hard not to ignore that he’s on decline though.

Not a direct quote here, from Leonsis:

Yes I remember this but I wonder as his production really is off a 3rd line guy given elite usage.

Will Ovi be true to his word?

Ovechkin said he’d love to break the record, but he doubts its possible (see link below)

Combine that with the above (Leonsis) link, it’s rather obvious both parties have no interest in a useless over-the-hill Ovechkin playing year after year just to break the record.

Don't worry guys he will soon go on a heater and score 12 goals in 10 games (half of them ENGs) or something like that. This is what the main board intelligentsia promised us and when were they ever wrong about anything?

Remember these guys also promised us Erik Karlsson would score more points on a conservatively coached Pittsburgh team than last season on a basement dwelling San Jose team that deployed him solely for trade value pumping reasons.

These guys are smart, they know the game, and they also know aging is a social construct.

The fact that a geriatric version Patrick Kane with a resurfaced hip has already caught Ovi in the goal scoring race playing a third amount of games is only due to "puck luck"...

Yeah, I guess we’re finally wrong about the guy coming off a 50 and 42 goal season, and we had 0 reasons to believe he would succeed.

Somebody should go tell him that the great minds of HF think he’s worthless and he should hang them up right now

That's the old Ovi we've been waiting for on the PP (well just after but still basically a PP goal). I think he still gets up to 25-30 goals this year, the slow start will keep him from getting 40-50 but I do still think he breaks the record easily before his current contract expires, still possibly next year too.

He just got screwed out of the winning goal with a minute left on the worst f***ing goalie interference call ever. Utter horseshit.

Need an elite playmaker

I keep noticing he’s been passing a lot lately, and his passes are creative and opportunistic, but shoot it, damn it

A friend of mine keeps telling me there is a bias to keep Ovechkin from the record from Toronto media. I told him I don't believe in conspiracy theories like that. But then, I see a really questionable goal overturned, see that he has had four or five overturned, and it is a bit head scratching. I normally watch 20+ Capitals games a year, but my job has been demanding and I'm having a hard time even keeping up with my main team, the Rangers.

Are there any available stats on the # of goals players have had overturned, to see where he compares with others? Is there any legitimacy to this?

Ovechkin should have most goals disallowed since he keeps shooting all the time, so when there is goaltender interference he will benefit from it most often since he takes most shots, pretty simple! Not really much of a feather in the hat to light the lamp when the goaltender is taken out of the play!

At 00:12 the shoulder of the Caps player bumps into the goaltender INSIDE the crease, pretty easy to see, thats why the review was finished so quickly without hesitation from Toronto. Mr.Paulsen shuld read the NHL rulebook before he tweets nonsense!

except dowd is outside the crease, can goalies just go out and randomly bump into people now?

Thats a straight line from the other side of the crease where the body bumps the goaltender, Dowds body is clearly in the crease when he bumps into the goaltender! If you are moving in direction of the crease you cant be inside the crease in case the goaltender tries to challenge the shooter!

If Dowd had been a bit further out it would be a perfect screen and the goaltender would have lost the challenge, but Dowd was just a bit too far close!

There was contact and the goalie was in the crease. I don't think it matters if the player who made contact was outside the crease.
