I don't know, are you in his head?

Are you?

If you were one of the very best in the world at what you do for 20 years, would you let 2-3 months of poor performance completely deflate you? He was making great plays all night long, didn't look nervous to me.

I would, if I'm chasing a very specific target and I have a window of maybe 2-3 years to make it and any decline in steady productivity makes it prohibitive.

Neither am I, but I’m not the one claiming he is nervous.

Look, he had to deal with the pressure of the media claiming he’d never win a championship for a decade. I don’t think he’d get discouraged for a record which he can achieve by working patiently.

I still maintain that there's no chance he doesn't score 20 - 25 goals if he gets over 300 shots on net, which is what he's on pace for.

WSH has only played 30 games.
My prediction: Ovechkin will aready have 10 or more goals around the half way mark and finish with at least 25 to 30 goals. He is still shooting a lot. He did not fall of a cliff even though he declined a bit.

You've been on here since 05, so Ill assume you remember; I know they've run a 1-3-1 set-up for 5 years atleast now, do you remember what they were running in 08-12 when they had Semin and Green with OV and Backstrom on the Powerplay? I feel like it was an umbrella, but not sure.
It's been way longer than 5 years, the Caps were the team that popularized the formation in the first place in the lockout era (because they used to technically stick Ovechkin on the left point) when they got tired of pretending he wasn't going to go down to the circle and shoot anyway.

Caps were using that PP back when they had Ribiero as the goal line guy and Brouwer in the bumper and that's 2012-2013, and frankly it didn't change drastically from before so much as it evolved a little. I think the main change was just keeping the bumper higher instead of crowding the goal line, but when you go back and watch a lot of Green's goals you can see that the structure is roughly there already

LeBron is a fitness freak who sleeps 12 hours a day and takes incredible care of his body. Ovie, as I have posted recently, eats cheesy pasta as a pregame meal and is still a known drinker.

Wait … I thought these guys were all fitness phenoms in the modern NHL? This is what I’m often told.

That Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull and Pavel Bure were all fat cigarette smoking plumbers who sold used cars after practice and were mostly drunk in the locker room?

And Ovechkin, McDavid, et al knew more about fitness than the idiots in the 80’s like …. Arnold ..

I lost my passion for making this joke again. I just hate the people who think fitness was invented in 2006 or whatever and the old guard we somehow less fit or unfit

Ovechkin has never been especially fit. McDavid isn’t either

Damn, Ovechkin kicks ass. Nathan MacKinnon just read this post and punched a hole through his monitor. Somebody out there is having a carbonara AND scoring goals? Bullshit.

What do you mean by this

He means he started watching hockey in 2017 and doesn’t know who Wayne Gretzky is. He figures someone entered the wrong formulas into the nhl.com era adjusted stats page and it glitched Gretzky’s numbers

What? He's absolutely fallen off a cliff this year. Biggest question is why? Age or injury?

Tell me you didn't watch the game without telling me you didn't watch the game. He could've had 2 more easily.
Hockey is always a game of inches. A lot of players nightly are "close".

wait what?! ..declined a ‘bit’ ? ..he’s on pace for 14 after popping 42 last season . Might be the biggest ‘decline’ in recent NHL history

6 goals in last 37 games.

If he keeps that pace up, it will take him 414 games to pass Gretzky. That would be sometime around the end of the first half of the 2028-2029 season if he plays every game along the way, at which point he will be 43 years old.

Yikes and sure he probably will pick up the pace a bit but then age is still at work here and that bump might be small and fast.

Congratulations to Wayne Gretzky!

Wednesday, december 27th 2023, Wayne passed Ovechkin in goals per game!

Gretzky .601
Ovechkin .600

When asked for his secret, Gretzky said chocolate bars and soft drinks were a more nutritious hockey meal than carbonara and vodka.
