Speculation: Will Oilers afford Puljujärvi?

A team like ARI cant even keep its #1D on a sweet deal. No way they spend 7M on a player like Puljujarvi

If Pulju signs a Kotkaneimi like offersheet Oilers take the picks. He will become a punching bag in Edmonton or many other places if he is making 6M per. even 5M would be hard to digest for large portions of the seasons when it comes to a player like him.
Talking about him after a 3 point game is different than what he normally brings.

They could, but they shouldnt. Puljujärvi seems to enjoy himself in Edmonton and the team is better with him. Why should he take less than say Hyman and RNH? Puljujärvi is better in every category of the game than them and they are paid 5,1-5,5M. You pay a guy like Nurse, who is a 2D on most teams 9M+, but Puljujärvi is worth less than Hyman? Go check stats, corsi and fenwick. Puljujärvi wins every category, even though Hyman get better options...

Then they will receive a 1st and a 3rd round pick. Gives them more cap space to throw an offer at John Gibson this summer

Wow, and then they are the same team without a young 1st liner, just with another goalie. The cup, here we come? Kassian can surely take his spot....

Gibson isn't "just another goalie"
I love JP but if that swap ever became an option you take it

Have you ever followed goalies careers? Look at Bobrovsky - "best goalie in the world". Then suddenly he is just an unmovable contract. Goalies are different from other players. A good forward/D doent just get bad usually. Goalies do.
Gibson isnt anything special - a good goalie, but no Hasek/Kiprusoff/Price etc. I read on HF numerous times that Rask is a bad goalie and Gibsons stats career-wise are way worse.

You do know Gibson has a better GAA and save % than Price does since 2015/2016 right?

And Rask has a much better save% than Gibson and how much love does he get? With Oilers D, Gibson wont get much love. And I havent seen any other 2-way forwards on the team than Pulju...
Funny thing is both Gibson and Price are .917 career in NHL. Rask is .921

Have you checked and compared Hymans and Puljujärvis usage, ice-time and statistics?

Then go check Fenwick etc. and come tell me Hyman is the better player. Puljujärvi has a much better impact on-ice even looking at advanced stats.
I find it preetty odd that an Oiler fan actually think Hyman is the far better player and Puljujärvi should be the lesser option to use when he is producing better and actually bumps McDrai more than Hyman? You like playing worse?

Zero doubt that Hyman is better at least offensively then Puljujarvi. I don't need advance stats. Watching the games is enough for me. Pul has definitely progressed over the last few years though. I still wouldn't be jumping at offering him a large contract. I'd take my chance with a bridge deal still

More about how Hyman got more than RNH, while beeing worse than Pulju. Also, I bet agents look at underlying stats, ice-time, usage etc. Puljujärvi do more with less time than both of them, so I bet his agent will point that out? RNH got 6M longterm after having 56p in 2014. Puljujärvi is on pace for better. Do you suggest his agent will settle for less than RNH got 7yrs ago?
Also, most teams nowadays like to pay for their youngsters. Not like the old day when 33yr olds got the big contracts. I bet that if Oilers low-ball him there is other takers.
Hyman was a UFA with other teams after him. Pulujarvi is still an RFA so it depends on how many UFA years we are buying.

Pulj can just sign his name on Batherson's contract at this point, at worst.

For those saying he doesn't deserve as much as hyman, Recall that Hyman's (and RNH's) contract is buying interior, older, and "cheaper" years.

This contract will take pulj through his best years.

If oilers can get away with Batherson's contract they're laughing.

That is a VERY WEAK ROSTER
also a team can offersheet Puljujarvi 6.1 m x 7 and not have to give up much - OR offersheet 7M x 7 and really screw the oilers
team could do the same with Yamo @ 2 M and not have to give up a SINGLE PICK

and this doesnt fix the problem of ZERO forward depth, Bad Defence and a prehistoric goalie

I'm a big Pulju fan, but if it were the Yotes offersheeting him for that we will gladly accept the picks and warm up a seat in the dressing room for another Connor in 2023.

Arizona's 1st will be a lottery pick. They also have Holloway, Bourgault, and Petrov coming up.

So glad we added Keith. What an awful trade that was, while basically giving away Caleb Jones, for the Hawks to sign Seth. Even after all these of being a GM, Holland still hasn’t figured out how to manage the cap properly. :help:

It's hard to argue about personal opinions so I'm not doing it.

But stats... Puljujarvi plays in the 2nd PP unit but his points/60 is the 3rd best of the team (Hyman 5th). His corsi and fenwick are the best of the team (e.g. corsi 58.3 while Hyman's is 51.6). His +- is the 2nd best of the time (+7 while Hyman is -5).

I am partial but I know which player I'd choose if I wanted to build a competing roster.

no im just being real

HE ONLY came back to get a "prove it" or "bet on himself" contract

he and his agent will hold all the cards in the offseason once again

Well. he seems to like it there and has gotten used to the city and the team. This kid is a northern boy and a shy one too. I`d guess he rather has familiar surroundings than go for the highest bidder. He has actually given interviews to Finnish media that he now is enjoying himself theer.

Well, with 560 gp and better stats he should get? I`d gues that would be a fair enough amount of games to assume you could make an opinion on him?

Regular season 560gp - .921 2.27GAA
Playoffs 104gp - .925 2.22GAA

^ If this is "haha", what would you say about Gibson? - "HAHAHAHAHA"?

Yamamotos value has plummeted this year in a contract year for him.

McLeod will be cheap to re-sign as well.

Plenty of space to sign Pulju or move pieces to make room for him. I think he’s pretty comfortable as the Bison King.

The guy is a giant Forest Finn from Lapland in Northern Finland which is the far northern reaches of the world. He probably feels comfortable in Edmonton and he’s become a bit of a cult icon with the Bison King.

what's a realistic ask on Kassian to free up his cap hit for you guys?

I don't think you'll get a big add for Kassian. He'll be a throw in on a trade to even the money out if he gets moved by Holland is my guess. I think people on HF want to demand a 1st to take him on, but that isn't a realistic way to look at it.
