Why? It's directly having an impact on our prospects and this is our general prospect thread.
Yurov not being at the WJCs is on-topic; the broader geopolitical reasons for Yurov not being at the WJCs is off-topic. That decision is completely independent of the Wild or any of its prospects.

That would be the glass completely full way of looking at things. Since Marat extended his KHL contract after saying earlier that he wanted to come over as soon as his previous contract was up, I have my doubts.

Well he extended his contract because he wasn't NHL ready. He obviously wants to come to NA to play in the NHL not AHL. He isn't Kaprizov level prospect so if he keeps his development trajectory he'll be ready in about 2 years. I think at his best he's going to be a 3rd liner in the NHL. Good 3rd liner but still 3rd liner.

Bye bye Khovanov. Minnesota put him on waivers to release him.
I view him as a bit of a cautionary tale when getting excited about the prospects the Wild draft, especially the ones from the early and mid 20's of the 1st round. I've seen a few people talking about the Wild prospect pool like it's full of can't miss talents, but sometimes guys fall in the draft for good reasons. Khovanov looked like he was on the fast track to a top-6 center job in the NHL two years ago. That's why I would prefer the Wild to just keep on drafting as many of those guys as they can. Spray and Pray, lots will miss but something's gonna hit.

Wheeler’s top 50 drafted prospects https://theathletic.com/3415068/2022/07/25/nhl-prospects-rankings/?source=user_shared_article

The Wild have 3 inside the top 30 with Rossi, Yurov, and Ohgren. 3 honorable mentions in Addison, Faber, and Lambos.
I find it interesting that it's an Under 23 Years Old list, and not one of his prospects is 22 years old, and only two of them are 21. Wheeler's got Shiny New Toy Syndrome.

But I did enjoy reading about the prospects. I won't deny that in spite of the list's flaws, I am entertained.

I like that Yurov is ahead of Nazar and Ohgren is ahead of Korchinski. Wheeler is saying that we got better prospects at 19 and 24 than Chicago got at 7 and 13.

This is really interesting even if it is just one input. Wheeler does have shiny new toy syndrome. I remember when he dropped Kaprizov from the best prospect in the world outside of the NHL to something closer to 10th with no other reasoning other than him being older. In hindsight, that is a huge fallacy. So, on this list there is some concept of depreciating returns and shiny new toy syndrome despite the toy not being any different than it was.

I really think Ohgren is being underrated by some on this board in terms of a perceived lack of upside and I think O'Rourke is a little bit better than some think as well. Addison has had such a weird development path despite (seemingly) generally good play at all levels (and even at the NHL level in my eyes). If he can manage to turn into a legit PP QB on D and a capable top 6 defenseman this prospect depth chart has quickly turned really deep--especially when you factor in Boldy effectively or seemingly still being able to count on this list (at 21 years old) and Wallestedt not being included on this list.

I am extremely confident about a young 'prospect' core of:

Boldy
Rossi
Wallestedt
Yurov
Lambos
Faber
Ohgren
O'Rourke
Addison
Khusnitdsov

There is some credence to the idea that the Wild have ~7 of the top 50 or so 'prospects' in the NHL and another 2-3 prospects who could be argued into that range by some. They've built this list of prospects without drafting higher than what 9th? Pretty impressive work done by Judd Bracket to continue to take high end talent. That being said, it remains to be seen how all this materializes and translates into NHL talent over the next 2-4 seasons.
