the way some people were raving about Lambos at prospect camp i didnt think he would be below Orourke, wonder if its a system thing then where Lambos is not as good as 1LD and Orourke fills the shutdown physical role they want in a 2LD better? or he just had a bad camp and pretournament. it happens.
I think it's the way that Cormier plays. He's more of a offensive defenseman so they need a guy there that plays more of a shutdown role.

Down to 2 now. Also surprised to see Lambos so far down in the lineup.

Aren't these the same coaches that decided Clarke shouldn't even get an invite the camp? Not sure I give any credibility to their personnel decisions.

This is the second year in a row Hunt hasn't played due to injury right?

looked like a hand injury, wasnt that the same issue last year?

I'm not sure, I don't remember the injury last year. Just not liking the fact that he's missed two WJ's with injuries now.

agreed, both from blocking shots so maybe a teachable thing as he isnt exactly injury prone from random stuff its blocking shots with his hands.

Yup, or at least it was a fractured finger last time. Not sure about this time. The other major injury he had was a severe cut from a skate blade.

If you are going to have injuries, you'd rather they be of this variety than knees, back, shoulder, groin, or head. Maybe Daemon should look into getting more protective gloves.

i think they can add extra plating to the gloves but i could be mistaken. I do recall my brother looking at some of Haulas old skates and noting the extra protection for shot blocking on them.

Oh yeah, you definitely can get shot guards for skates, but the top quality skates are pretty protective...even back 50 years ago you could get ankle guards, but a lot of guys didn't wear them because they felt they hindered skating. Shot off the ankles REALLY hurt back then with the old leather skates, though.

One of my pet peeves with gloves is how short they tend to be on the cuff, not that it would've helped Hunt protect his hand.

I would think that some brands or models of gloves would have extra protection, or they could order it, bit it might've been that he got hit on the palm....you've got to change your blocking technique if that's the case.

agreed if he is getting hit in the side of the hand or palm he needs to learn to angle his hand properly or stop trying to block with it all together, I have noticed lately a lot of the NHL blocking seems to be go down to a knee and turn to one side. Unsure if it is taught or what as I dont exactly know why that is the better route.

It could just be their age difference. It's pretty common for the jr guys to sit while the sr guys play at this level.

If even not for talent reasons, although in some sense age is a huge factor in terms of talent because of body development and other things. Largely, older guys get their "chance" to make an impact that have paid their dues over past years.

Spacek had a good period, imo. Very solid on gaps, a few good outlet passes. Speed average but good defensively/positionally.

Petrovsky good on his goal and one other shift. Kinda lackadaisical on D last shift - just backed into own zone and let rusher come into zone and around him.

Randomly - NHL Network's news on the ticker at the bottom is last summer or older.

2nd Period. Czechia dominated play. Spacek had a couple of decent one timers on 2nd PP unit. Had a nice zone entry and made some smart plays. Not a lot to say for Slovakia - didn't have the puck a lot.

3rd Period - Czechia got into trouble late due to penalties, including a delay of game by Spacek. He had some great defensive plays just prior. Spacek then gets primary assist on last goal to win 5-4. Petrovsky is noticeable in offensive zone but otherwise just floated around. His first goal was nice, his team was heavily outplayed despite the score (Czechi'as goalie let in two soft goals) and he's just turning 18 tomorrow.

Petrovsky should finish the game with 1g + 2a (they are currently giving the assist on the 4-4 tying goal to someone else but 90% sure it was Petrovsky).

Spacek gets the assist on the game winning goal as well.

Edit: Petrovsky now officially 1g + 2a

Peart with an eventful first period, showed nice skating and passing, had an insane keep in on the PP, had a nice second assist by opening a zone entry, but then had an egregious turnover leading to a breakaway off of a bad change with Hughes which almost cost them a shorty.

Faber looks great so far, steady, in control, good puck movement and beautiful skating.

Apparently Peart had a terrible first game.
Still only through 2 periods, he had one really big brain fart during a line change, puck was right at the boards where Peart was changing, Hughes was inches from having his skates on but a German was closing on the puck, Peart was indecisive and went for the worst option of just lightly touching it and then going for a change, giving the German a breakaway as Hughes stepped on late.

In the second he was fine until he had a mishandle at the line on the PP and gave it right to the German for a free clear. He also had one of the best displays of skill so far with a zone hold on the PP in the first, and forced a nice zone entry that led directly to the 2nd US goal.

He made the two most noticeable errors for the US in a completely one sided game so he is getting ripped for that.

I thought Kaiser's attempt to step up on the PK entry leading to him getting walked for a goal against was more noticeable but somehow no one seemed to notice that.

Peart's play was a bit too casual at times. Summer hockey against a massively inferior opponent, easy to lose focus for a second. He was otherwise engaged offensively and did a good job closing defensively. He might lose the PP2 QB position with the giveaway but it's kind of hard to really read too much into that game.

The people saying Peart should sit the rest of the tourney are going just a tad overboard.
Players make mistakes...it's a great way to make your team play tight though if you bench them for making them.

Looks like they walked that Petrovsky assist back. He's now listed as 1g+1a on the IIHF site. They just can't make up their minds.
