Not necessarily a Wild prospect but was wondering if anyone noticed goalie Kyle McLellan at development camp?

He is transferring to Wisconsin this season after playing at Mercyhurst his first two seasons.

Is he a legitimate prospect?

I can't claim to know much about him, but he had pretty good numbers on a bad team. If he has another really good year I wouldn't be shocked if he's invited back for next camp and then signed. After all, it's not like we have a particularly deep goalie pipeline.

Then again, the Wild tried that wait-and-see strategy with Tyler Johnson and look how that worked out.

He looked alright. Definitely the third best goaltender in the 3v3 tournament behind Wallstedt and Jones.

I wouldn’t expect him to be the starter over Moe at Wisconsin.

Man you sure like to turn everything negative.
Not everything. I think it's great that five of Minnesota's defensemen have made it on two powerhouse teams. But you have to look at it realistically as well. Or else you get Khovanov expectations.

My biggest hope is that Iowa makes a huge push to the playoffs led by Rossi and Beckman (who has a rebound year). Minnesota signs Yurov as well and has him join the team as a Black Ace. Ohgren comes over next season.

Minnesota trades Kulikov at the deadline. Dumba is a hard one to gauge because of Addison. Faber spends a season in the AHL next season.

Wally spends the entire season as 1B goalie in the AHL and next year is the 1A goalie.

As it stands, Minnesota is deep in the AHL with defensemen. Though I got to wonder why Daemon Hunt is not listed as one of the guys, but O'Rourke is?

To be fair, I don't think everyone shared those expectations with Khovanov. He was an average sized forward who had a very good but not a blowout overager year in the QJMHL (3rd in Pts/G as an overager) drafted in the middle rounds with notable stories about laziness and work ethic. Those stories never disappeared. He had alot of red flags.

In this case, we're talking about defensemen who had great yers (ROR), captain experience (Hunt, ROR) or were drafted high (Lambos). There is something to get excited about.

I think part of the excitement around Khovanov was wishful thinking because we were so bereft at the Center position. Remember, this was pre Rossi, and JEE had looked ineffective offensively up till very recently. Wild fans were pretty anxious about the C position, as it was obvious that Staal and Koivu were close to aging out of the league.

He was a legitimately talented center prospect, there was valid reason to be excited, ultimately he just couldn't overcome the red flags. A guy like RoR or Hunt don't have the red flags Khovanov did, but they also probably don't have the potential upside that he did.

That would make sense. I just personally pay attention less to position when it comes to prospects I get excited about. Really just a preference.

That is also true and another preference of mine. I get more dejected and unenthused by major red flags like character or lack of size than talks about lack of upside.

I will always have a sour taste for players like Khovanov or Sokolov unless they lead their league by miles or have a great AHL season. Promise it's not a Russian thing 😁

He had legit skill and was developing well in juniors... but he also had an ego and didn't think he needed to keep working for it. That's where his problems came. As soon as it came out when leaving Juniors that he wanted NHL or overseas, you knew he was in trouble. He thought he had completed his development entirely in Juniors. He thought he was done and was ready for the show.

Everyone, including him... found out how NOT ready he was... and now he may never reach the show because of his own ego and laziness.

Watched a bit of the Hlinka. The Canadians have a ton of talent besides Bedard in the 2023 draft, mainly forwards. Yager, Benson, Gauthier, Cristall, Ritchie, Wood, and a couple of others. Ratzleff(sic?) looked really good on goal...very calm, and always seemed to be in position.

The Wild with 3 Canadian junior D'man prospects = mind blown. We've had one or so every so often. 3?

That's because MN only picked one Canadian Dman higher than the 4th round since 2008, Dumba. Brackett and Guerin have made the draft a priority by keeping, and making the most of, picks. The extra picks have allowed Judd to go with BPA, and still be able to draft for need.

I thought that Fletcher was semi- competent when he was with the Wild, but am now thinking that I was wrong. His propensity for trading away draft picks cost us.

and it's down to 2, before the tournament even started. Hunt injured and out, for the second WJC in a row.:(

Down to 2 now. Also surprised to see Lambos so far down in the lineup.

the way some people were raving about Lambos at prospect camp i didnt think he would be below Orourke, wonder if its a system thing then where Lambos is not as good as 1LD and Orourke fills the shutdown physical role they want in a 2LD better? or he just had a bad camp and pretournament. it happens.
