Leafs as a team were playing well. Right now the team is just out of sync. They'll pick it up again though and it'll be back to the good old times.

All it takes is one hot streak (like 7-8 games) where he scores above PPG and he could finish the season like 85 in 72 or something like that. I don't think people realize that.

I don't think you'll have to wait that long. We'll see how good he is before the end of the season. He's riding some mighty high advanced stats right now.

lol PDO is gonna come down to earth soon. Kid plays wing with Gagner and Vanek (2 vets) and gets to play on PP with the Sedins while Matthews plays center against top competition with wingers who are in their 2nd full NHL season and is still BOSS!

Boeser has 23 EV points in 37 games Context: plays behind Sedins and plays with vets; sheltered

Matthews has 26 EV points in 32 games - Context: plays as a 1C faces high QoC, No Vets, NO sheltering and still produces

Talk about BS when it comes to Matthews lol.

Sure I care about stats, like how Matthews hasn't ended a season top 10 in points yet.

The one season that he's played? As a rookie? Did McDavid finish his season in top 10 in scoring? Oh wait no he didn't because he got hurt. I would argue that he wouldn't have kept up his PPG stats that season but that would just be me speculating.

But if you prorate his numbers from games 11-16 and take away his injuries and keep all other NHL players injuries and then you give him 2 points for every goal he scores cause they are more important than assists by double, then give him half a point for every loose puck recovery he'd double Kucherov in points. Don't you get it? Matthews is unstoppable because of LEAFS.

In the Leafs land we care more about "Team" success and reaching playoffs instead of personal or individual glory like some "other" team has been doing who have been picking 1st overalls forever and still can't do anything....

Sacrificing individual glory for "team" success! ~ Leafs

I have no idea what you're talking about and what this has to do with my post.

They have nothing better going for them though. Oilers fans have McDavid as the only lone bright spot regardless of what happens to their season/ team. Leafs fans are concerned with trying to win. In Toronto, Matthews will still be god if he gets 60 points and wins the Leafs a cup. The media would put him on a pedestal as the best player in the league. lol

You care about stats and numbers. We care about winning. That's what he's saying. I personally don't care if Matthews is considered the 85th best player in the league. Believe me, it doesn't matter as long as we win. If we don't win and he's getting paid top 10 for being the 85th best player, then we have problems.

Ummm.... ending top 10 in personal glory competition is not the way "Leafs" play hockey; they care about where the "TEAM" is; instead of personal glory unlike the team your handle is suppose to reflect

Relative to expectations, I wouldn’t call McDavid a bright spot. He has seriously regressed this year. I thought he was supposed to lead the league in scoring. What happened? I thought he was going to lead the Oilers to cup contention, let alone being a top 16 NHL playoff team. What happened?

69.

Ahh your arguments have run their course I see. No more leg to stand on to try to convince folks that a 20th ranked player is somehow ranked top 10 or 5. Maybe you guys should leave the thread if your discussion is going to be talking about me rather than the NHL player this thread is dedicated too. I guess personal insults is all that's left for people without a valid argument.

There is little reason trying to have a reasonable conversation with a zealot. You will just move goal posts and continue making little digs. Sometimes when people don't want to debate with you it's not because you've won or they ran out of arguments, it's because they're tired of banging their head on a wall.

Except I haven't moved any goal posts. My point is simple, all of Matthews production indicates a player ranked around 20th in the league and not top 5. That's what this thread is about is it not? Pretty simple really. Maybe reread posts 40-61 and you can understand.

Well you went to the trouble of assuming I was an Oilers fan and elaborated on "us". I felt the need to correct you.

Well, I said Oiler fans. If you're not an Oilers fan, why does that comment concern you? Why do you have assume everything is about you? I wasn't even quoting your comment.

You quoted a comment that was directed to me. Maybe you should take a timeout.

I said Oilers fans. You're not an Oilers fan, therefore you shouldn't be concerned with what I said. Unless you have a general issue with my comment. Which is fine.
