Why are the Devils 21-4-1? insane easy schedule, makes perfect sense.

It's a toss up for them at this point.

I think Boston, Toronto, Tampa, Carolina and NJ are basically locks.

Pittsburgh will be in the mix with NYR, NYI, Florida and Detroit for the final 3 spots.

I think they'll be in the mix until the end, just not sure if they grab a spot.

We shall see. PIT had a brutal travel schedule to start and are seemingly coming out of it relatively fine.

Ya I do t think I would bet my house on the Pens making the playoffs. I’d say they are still a “good” team but I wouldn’t say a playoff spot is for certain for them.
I can see the Capitals added onto that list of teams battling for a WC spot.
If they do make it , I can’t see them improving over the next couple of seasons.
Pens are on the downslope with zero real prospects or cap space to improve from where they are are right now. Pens will be in rebuild mode sooner than they will be contenders .

Same story we’ve heard for 5 years

I've seen Buffalo start off hot then fade as the season goes on. I've seen the Flames win 10 in a row then fizzle out in the playoffs.

Didn't Columbus go on a crazy 16 game run once?
If they were just scraping by and piling up shootout wins with the goalie carrying them, maybe you’d have a point. They aren’t. You don’t.

Yeah, it's hard to doubt them making the playoffs given their core and all the success they've had. Plus they're seemingly going all-in for another run with this group, so they'll likely add some reinforcements at the TDL.

I could see Detroit fading a bit, but I'm not sure between NYR, NYI and Florida who the other team out is.

I think PIT probably secures the 3rd playoff spot in the Metro by the end of the season.

No one is saying the Devils are cup favourites… just acknowledging that they are a good team and are on a awesome run. Devils fans are proud and have every right to be excited and pumped that the team is looking very good and have the pieces to be even better.
And if you look at advqnced stats , the results are matching the stats about how well they are playing.
Its not a flash in the pan , lucky run .

Then what changed between last year and this year? Just looking at the teams they've beaten... Only Colorado is impressive.

Im mainly just chiming in on why Pittsburghs cups are any better besides being two more because of style

Devils didnt take 25+ seasons to figure out how to win :/
And the Penguins were almost relocated because those fans can't be bothered to show up unless they're competitive.

Neat. Your team rocked in the 90s.
And the 00's.

Just in case you forgot two of their cups came during that decade.

Did I mention the scf in 2012 in which they lost to a juggernaut in 6 games?

Ok . Not a reach to say they can finish 3rd . What does your Metro final standings look like ?
My guess :
1. Devils / Canes
2. Canes / Devils
3. Islanders / Pens / Rangers
4.Pens / Islanders / Rangers
5. Rangers / Islanders / Pena
6.Washington
7. Philly
8. Jackets

Devils are building up enough of a lead in the Metro that I can’t see them dropping out of the top 3.
Canes are very deep and right see them not being top2 .
From 3-5 is a toss up for me. No clue who finishes where .

Just my two cents.

I can answer, but it really doesn’t seem worth it. You seem to like the luck and an easy schedule narrative. Just go with that.
Who said anything about luck? I never once said the Devils were lucky, I said they have a soft schedule. Nothing wrong with taking advantage of weak teams.

If you're going to form an argument, please leave the strawmen in the field.

What do you mean "what changed"? Is that a serious question? Added Vanecek, Marino, Palat (though he hasn't played much), Smith, and Haula. Hughes, Bratt, Hischier, Siegenthaler, Zetterlund, Mercer, Sharangovich, etc. all have another year of development under them. Hamilton, Hughes, Hischier, and Wood are all healthy which was not the case last season. Tatar back in his possession monster form after a rough season last year. Subtracted one horrible coach and one mediocre one for two very good ones.

A ton has changed, so when you ask that question I really have no f***ing idea what you are talking about.

You just argued in another thread that NJ going 9-0 versus Canada this year is easy because of who theyve played

But tell everyone how you just discovered they were the only team in NHL history to do so

I mean, yeah? Who of those teams are legitimate contenders? It was only a month ago that Buffalo swept all of Western Canada.

If you can't answer that's fine, just say so. Most of the teams they've beaten aren't really world beaters, except Colorado.
Smoked the team who was in the wcf. Twice.

The defending champions.

The Icelanders who have played quite well.

Not to mention Calgary twice and Toronto.

You may not like these teams, perhaps even believe they're paper tigers. But they're all in playoff positions with a few being at least top 3 in their respective divisions.

So what in the f*** are you talking about?

The Oilers aren't even in a playoff position right now. They have the worst depth, worst defense, and worst goaltending in the league. Not to mention the worst general manager.

Islanders are a decent team, but not a scary one.

Calgary/Toronto are perennial losers who will never figure it out.
