Why a Zach Hyman - Toronto extension, isn't a closed door, and may still even be likely.

Personally, I'm fine with the M&M line. It really needs two things, though; someone on the other wing that's dangerous enough opponents can't concentrate on stopping Matthews from shooting (all you need is someone who can pot 20-25 with a decent shot), and for Keefe to stop overplaying the shit out of them...

Better yet, split them up and let's build three lines; a Matthews line, a Tavares line and a Nylander line, with Marner playing with Tavares again. Let's make opponents pick their poison, rather than loading everything up and allowing teams to throw their entire shutdown effort at one line...

I want to do something similar but different.

It seems like Granlund could likely happen based upon more speculation from Mirtle...I wish we could add Saad too but I would have to work towards that

Granlund-Matthews-88 (shot/pass threat from all 3)
X(Galchenyuk?-JT-Marner

Probably the better top 6.

4 x 4 should be the max and I’m a big Hyman fan.
Toffoli is a slightly better goal scorer so it’s right on point.
4 years pretty much puts him in line with everyone becoming UFA so if things don’t work out team wise you retool.

I think this is realistic

Love Hyman but if it can’t be done in the 4 - 45 range the Leafs have to move on.

You sign Hyman and hope Seattle takes Kerfoot, and cap problem solved to pay Zach.

Hyman $2.25 mil + Kerfoot $3.5 mil recaptured = potentially $5.75 mil.

Then its Kerfoot that is out the door, and not Hyman and that could simply be chalked up to expansion cost, and you could work with Seattle prior to this all unfolding so all are on board here.

Nuge signed for 5.1m

Hyman should be in the same range. Maybe even a little less. Overall I think he's more impactful than RNH but they're very similar in terms of production.

$4,450,000 MAX for me. Not a dollar more than a guy like Alex Killorn. I don't care for how long, as short as possible would be best imo (3 years)? Hyman is already starting to breakdown... we don't need 2 good years a 4 trash years.

query for the cap gurus out there ........ structure of the deal does not matter on a buyout as far as the cap goes?
it impacts the $$ paid out but the cap hit is calculated on aav is it not?

Sounds like Dubas will overpay buy giving him term. Overpaying is what Dubas does best.

Love Hyman but the last thing we need is a $5m grinder. $5m should get you a difference maker in this pandemic so if I am going to further f*** myself capwise, I shoot for Hall or Hamilton.

I really hate the corner Dubas has painted himself into but that $5.5M definitely could be spent more wisely towards Dubas' vision of the team. In the current cap climate, for that money ($5.5M + $0.75M for another player), I believe he could sign a couple of quality players who are more than just last-kick-at-the-can types like Jumbo Joe.

with Mirtle coming out and saying Hyman's getting 5.5m x 6yrs on the open market you know it's a lock Dubie and Hyman have a deal done around 5m and are waiting to announce it after the expansion draft in which time they'llboth be weeping about how Hyman lubs being a Leaf and how smart Dubie is to get him on a team friendly deal

You mean that is how much you allowing Dubas to overpay by cause Hyman hangs up if you do not start with a 4 ??
Hahahahahahaha. You are probably right but seriously let him hang up. Just bringing the same players back and some of them at a higher price will just result in more failure next year

Dubie gonna leave a bigger mess for the next GM to clean up than what Lou left him. #YourAdummyShinny

Don’t want Hyman at the 5.5 price. Especially when nuge signs for 5.1

Like 4 would be my max. But I don’t even know that I want him back. I mean. Something has to change.

Hyman was not a problem but at 5+, he will be a problem. Only Dumbas signs him for $5+. I don't care if they lose this season as long as he and Shanny are fired the day after they are eliminated.
