Why a Zach Hyman - Toronto extension, isn't a closed door, and may still even be likely.

Would be funny to see how many people will be piss if somehow Dubas manages to get a 5th rounder for Hyman instead of a 3rd or 4th like some here think or even when Hyman just leave for UFA and some here blame Dubas for not making a deal for even a 7th rounder.

Thankfully Toronto didn't cave in and give him 7 years and the money he is looking for.

He's a hard worker, but he's not worth what he's asking for as for as I'm concerned.

I wasn't really overly impressed with his first round performance. He stifled a lot of the offense for Marner and Matthews, I mean quite a bit.

He's pretty injury prone and at the peak of his performance. He's never going to put up big numbers, even with playing with one of the best natural golf scorers of this generation and one of the best playmakers in the NHL with Marner.

If he wanted to stay in Toronto, then he would have made it happen. He's more concerned about the money and the amount of years, so be it, he'll end up playing somewhere like Seattle who may struggle to even make the playoffs. Just because they get to pick players, doesn't mean they'll end up in another Las Vegas situation.

Trying to get an asset for him before he leaves for free it's pretty smart. I like him, but it's time to move on.

yet..........

My counter is that Marner didn't perform well in the series BECAUSE of Hyman. Hyman got all the passes from Mitch and couldn't bury. Matthews had someone draped on him all series and was never open. Hyman needed to convert a couple of the multiple beauty opportunities he was given by Mitch.
Maybe Mitch himself coulda chipped in a goal. You know - just 1 goal from Mitch in games 5-7 and who knows, maybe that's all it woulda took for us to take the series.

Zach Hyman wants to stick with Maple Leafs but the offers are rolling in

By Kevin McGran Staff Reporter - Thu., July 15, 2021

At least three NHL teams have made solid offers for Zach Hyman's services since the Maple Leafs granted the pending unrestricted free agent the right to talk with other teams, the Star has learned.

The Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, and Edmonton Oilers are believed to be the front runners in the Hyman sweepstakes with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings are also making inquiries with Hyman's agent Todd Reynolds.

Hyman has been a real heart-and-soul player for the Leafs since his arrival back during the 2015-16 season. As time went by, his offensive totals would start to jump and he would cement himself in their top-six. This now makes him a real threat today, as he not only can score, but also plays with a high degree of tenacity. It makes sense that he is such a hot commodity already.

In 43 games this season, the winger scored 15 goals and recorded 33 points in total. However, his success in recent seasons had made his asking price far too large for the Leafs. With him being 29-years-old and this being his one shot at a big contract, it is understandable that he wants to cash in.

the feeding frenzy has already started , forget about Hamilton because the big ufa fish is Zach ''10 thumbs'' Hyman , lol

word is Tampa is looking to dump Point/Kuch/Stamkos to clear cap to sign Hey Man and his 5 goals in 32 playoff games

no idea how Dregs still has a job

he's not a UFA 'yet' ...can be signed before he becomes a UFA

fair but i dont think any team would throw in a pick unless its like a 6th or a 7th rounder. given a stagnant cap; NHL teams would like to have as many attempts as possible with their picks in the draft to hopefully land a diamond in the rough and bolster their roster and keep the low priced assets incoming to play in the NHL; and when they are due for a raise if they outperform a core member the core member goes away or they go away for a draft pick.

you can sustain success much longer that way

Is the negotiation period open? Or is tampering just fair game at this point?

Teams are seriously lined up to give him 8yrs? I highly doubt this. This is for clicks only.

There are apparently & currently 9 or more teams interested and inquiring into his services according to reporting out there from numerous reporters and insiders.

Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Detroit, Boston, Pittsburgh, STL, Seattle, Florida

I don't deny there are interests bc Hyman is a good player but my question is are all these interested teams willing to pay north of 5mil for Hyman?

Dubas gave permission to Hyman's agent Todd Reynold's to legally go talk to teams ahead of free agency.

Can't believe that a guy who already comes from one of the wealthiest families in Toronto, and already made 10+ million during his career, wants to go for that extra few million instead of taking a discount (which is still more than this forum will ever make, combined) and playing for his childhood team.

Players are so f***ing greedy these days.
So yeah, f*** him, he can go wherever he wants.
