Why a Zach Hyman - Toronto extension, isn't a closed door, and may still even be likely.

Exactly the reason Hyman is in demand for his effort and consistent compete level.

100% correct and that is why the Leafs do so poorly come playoff time because will beats skill and hard work/effort beats talent particularly in the playoffs.

Don’t think it is a matter of could but more of a question of should.

Hyman is not worth over 4mil AVV. I don’t mind giving Hyman the terms, heck give him 8 years but the AVV needs to be lower.

no doubt.

but they could afford it, if they wanted to.

Honest question, are you actually defending this team that choked against the Habs?

Hyman is the least to blame here..

$2.25m player who outperforms his contract is the problem. Not the $11+m players who underperform theirs. Guess some people prefer Masarattis that spin their tires in an inch of snow over a Ford pickup truck that slices through a foot of snow.

those are the signs untalented people hang on the wall to try yo make themselves feel better about not having any talent or skill at anything.

you ever enter an office with those on the wall....walk the hell out.

I don't know why Hyman would be less to blame than anyone else.....

Do you expect $2.25 mil players to perform equal to $11 mil players statistically?

Hyman has scored just as many goals as Marner of the course of the last 2 years and not getting paid $11 mil for the same production.

Perhaps that is why Leaf fans don't see Hyman's value because he is expected to contribute like he is being paid $11 mil and not 1/4 of that.

How about Marner’s history of puck-over-the-glass penalties? Rarely see argument that it did not cost them the series..

Everyones go-to reason to defend Hyman's playoffs is to heap all the blame on Marner.

No, the opposite is true ...if he doesnt play, we win.

Hyman's ineptitude offensively and his inability and reluctance to pass the puck was a key factor in the Leafs top line being 'shut down' blocking the open net shot(s) was just an extra example ofhow useless he really is in front of the net
Daneault did 1/2 the job and Hyman did the rest.

I think there is a higher expectation for performance for Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Nylander to perform and carry the team. Given that they make up ~50% of the cap, they certainly did not carry the team in any way.

As a team sport, each player is accountable but the expectation on Hyman at $2 million is not and should not be the same as Marner at $11 million.

that was insanely bad, but, so was the original penalty call, over the glass to make us 2 down was just yuck. ...and not even under pressure.
Marner needs to be banned from trying to flip the puck out, he obviously sucks at it.

You are talking about a player making 2.25mil and average 40pts in the regular season Vs someone making close to 11mil and average well over PPG in the regular season.
They both played like crap in the playoffs. But Marner getting more blame is simple bc he is an elite player and it also proves he is a bigger part of the team than Hyman.

My counter is that Marner didn't perform well in the series BECAUSE of Hyman. Hyman got all the passes from Mitch and couldn't bury. Matthews had someone draped on him all series and was never open. Hyman needed to convert a couple of the multiple beauty opportunities he was given by Mitch.
