Do people really care that he didn't go out to get what probably felt like a meaningless trophy? I am really struggling to understand why anyone would give a crap about something so stupid.

It is about being a sore loser, this whole Edmonton Oilers team seems like a bunch of sore losers. His father has his phone out to record him, that should tell you everything about Connor McDavid.

And if he went out people would've accused him of only caring about individual awards. It's completely meaningless that he didn't go out there. Mountains out of mole hills.

If he accepted it you would have made a thread about how he wanted to overshadow the Panthers moment and made it about himself

He did the right thing

Except for the fact that Barkov and Co were only I think the 2nd team ever to blow a 3-0 series lead and go to a game 7.

Hardly the stuff of Selke legends.
Tenth team.

He also feasted on the Cup Champs.

This is such a dumb take. He doesn't care about himself or his awards. It shows he cares about his team and the single most important team award.
Ain't that cute! "He cares about the team". About those "dumb takes"...

I don't think it is him being a sore loser. It is him not caring about a trophy that means basically nothing. He wanted the Cup. Who cares about another individual award? Dude already has enough individual awards to guarantee first ballot HoF status.

That's not even close to the same.

Someone extremely emotional they were so close to the ultimate team award outside of an olympic gold medal not going out to celebrate an Individual award after losing is nothing like saying "F them" and refusing the post series handshake
It's almost IDENTICAL. You are emotional in nothing cases.

You don't shake hands with your opponent to "change anything." You do it to show good sportsmanship. Same here.
...Yeah, he shook hands with the Panthers. Are you insinuating that he sent a body double out there into the handshake line and ducked out of the arena or something?

The Conn Smythe is a nice award but it's not the Cup. That's the only trophy that matters. Period.

Why do people care that he didn't come out? How does that impact your life?

Also, it amazes me anyone here thinks not coming to accept the trophy makes you less of a man. He has principles and if that means not coming out for a trophy that in the end is meaningless, then I respect that.

Tenth team in the Finals? Or are you looking at all playoff series?
All playoffs

How is it more meaningless than Hart and Art Ross, which he routinely came out to receive?

Yes, I'm saying Barkov shut him down in the majority of the games head-to-head.

When you only put up any significant points in three games out of seven then it really wasn't as impressive a series people make it out to be.
Barkov limiting McDavid to 11 points is 'shutting him down'?

On the other hand, Barkov deserves praise for producing 5 points while being shut down by the best player who, in a plot twist, turns out not to be the best player when it's time to award the trophy.

I'm not an Oilers fan, but the mental gymnastics are over the top. The fact that McDavid is being judged by completely different standards than anyone else is the best evidence he deserves the Conn Smythe.

McDavid deserved the CST. I can promise you he does not care what some hockey nerds on a forum think. He will go back to his mansion - with his 10/10 fiance and count his stacks of cash while preparing for next season without giving the opinions of said hockey nerds a single thought.

Barkov was better than McDavid in 4 games out of 7. Speaking of "mental gymnastics"...

Because it's an awards show and he's expected to be there.

My God, the pretzels people turn themselves into to discredit him.

The Cup is the only trophy that matters and any player would turn in all awards for it.

He scored 10 out of his 11 points in three games. In the other four games he managed one point.

You think showing up in three games out of seven is playing well for an entire series?
