You should pick a European HC, you should hire Jukka Jalonen as your next HC.
- also hire the assistants that he want's, because head coach cannot win you games without quality assistants.

Hiring a mew coach should have happened last yr Cassidy but now we won't know if a new coach would have changed anything.

Now we need a new coach hopefully a new management team and we have no time to make team altering decisions on key players.

I blame dubas and shanny for this .
All of the Hockey world was saying you can't win with 40 mil tied up in 4 players and they are all the same skill set altra talented but all soft.
It's to bad that they experimented with mathews marner and Nylander. I kept JT out of the conversation because that is where the experiment began.

When other NHL coaches get mad and argue with the refs it seems mostly like a performance. When our current gets mad behind the bench, he just seems mad.

People all over seem to like Spencer Carbery and his potential. Who are the top candidates for NHL coach, GM jobs?

A worry with this is Carbery was in charge of the powerplay, and the PPs struggles in the playoffs are well documented. Keeping Nylander off PP1 was a dumb decision, and if he will continue with that going forward I don't want him.

And you know why lewfs pp didn't work on playoff?

All team did the same exact thing in playoff against leafs ... they giving up shot from blue line and leafs are unable to do anaything for 1 big reason and its also the same reason why they removed nylander from pp1... to score with long shot, you needed screen or guy to get rebound, deflecting puck, not a guy whos staying in peripheric

Matthews can score from blueline without screen... marner and rielly cant, so if whats your opponent giving you is point shot but you unable to create any kind of screen, you will struggling... so if you playing with nylander, the only guy to create traffic is tavares... or Matthews by losing your best weapon from blue line

the Leafs PP is a point that drives me insane.
Matthews has one of the best 1-timers in the league, and he worked on that shot like crazy ...and Nylander also has a good 1-timer.
Our entire PP should be designed to get that shot off, the same way Boston (Pasta), Oil (Drais), TB (Stamkos), Was (OV) heck even NYR, and Buffalo's PP key off the 1-timer.
We had the #1pp when we were doing that, and what do we do, we go to blender PP, lets just circle and interweave every player and hope that only the defenders get confused and not our players, since with all the motion they have no idea where to pass the puck any more, and why there were so many bad passes on our PP ...yea, it looks cool, and is an interesting concept, but, you need to stick with what works until it doesnt, and then figure out how to make it work again

Bruce Boudreau - Good coach. He has basically been in the exact same spot we're in now with a core who hasn't lived up to expectations, then finally winning the cup.

Peter Laviolette - Good coach.
Bruce Boudreau never won a cup, he's a career 1st place team playoff loser
Laviolette is better than Bruce, but, hit or miss
Quenneville would likely be the top option if available

There are so many calls to go nuclear on this team, why not go a hybrid model. Keep the core intact and hire Patrick Roy and watch it melt down. His intensity on this bunch would be a hockey experiment for the ages

Quennville and Gallant are top of the list
Cant disagree. There is no chance the Leafs hire someone inexperienced with potential at this point. Just wonder if MLSE will even consider Quennville given his past. My guess is no. But that is who i would hire.

This offseason is literally the raptors trading for Kawhi and hiring Nurse.

Please get rid of Keefe, and get rid of Marner.

Don't think MLSE is touching Quenneville with a 10 foot pole...Bell and Rogers are publicly traded companies...their reputation will be on the line.

I definitely agree. I would have already called Gallant, if I were the Leafs. Build this into a hard forechecking team that retrieves pucks and delivers it to our stars in shooting position.

Get Q. If there was something real on him, a year of investigation would have surely found it.

Enough of the purity tests, just go for the best, we don't have the luxury to roll with choir boys. We've been trying it, it doesn't work.

They should take all Leaffans connected thoughts in real time and change lines strategys according to those. The outcome would be much better. But if it is crap it would be our fault.

Still not happy about the fourth line in third decision when trailing. Not amp up the first line. No Nylander on pp1. Nylander with Tavares. Holl forever.

Keefe out-coached himself often.

Sheldon Keefe was telling on himself for not having the team prepared for the second-round series when he made his comment about the team’s surprise at the “wide open” style of game they encountered against Florida. To me, it’s unacceptable that the coaching staff didn’t have the team prepared for this tendency from the Panthers.

Keefe has been a strong regular-season coach, but it’s undeniable at this point that there have been difficulties preparing the team for playoff series and making the right adjustments as they progress. The team also doesn’t seem to come out with their hair on fire for playoff games almost ever.

Why do they so often wade into games? Why were they so passive through the neutral zone all series against Tampa even as the Lightning tilted the ice on them all series long (the Leafs lost the territorial battle in most of the games)? Why was the team constantly regrouping and stalling out so often late in the third period when trailing in an elimination game vs. Florida (they had almost nothing going on offensively until William Nylander’s solo effort nearly saved the season)? Why is riding an exhausted Matthews-Marner duo into the ground the only answer Keefe has when the chips are down?

Seven straight playoff games of two goals is brutal for a team with the scoring talent on this roster.

Gallant or Laviolette but I am starting to think there are going to bring him back. Last year Dubas claimed he was going to be remembered as a great coach in 10-15 years. What changed to make Kyle fire him a year and a series win later ??

If we bring Sheldon back we can expect to lose the exact same way in the playoffs again. This Reddit comment goes into detail about how the Leafs have lost their past four series by being unable to defend against rush and transition offence.

However in the past 3 years they've lost series based on transition defense.

Vs Florida - 80% of Florida's goals came on the rush

Vs Tampa last year - Tampa won game 6 via transition and game 7 with 2 rush goals. They also had a good PP that series.

Vs Montreal - Montreal only managed to score 1 goal vs Toronto off a sustained cycle. The rest were special teams (3) or in transition.

Columbus - Toronto blew a 3-0 lead in game 3 with 3 goals coming in transition, the other was on the PP. They subsequently came back from a 3-0 deficit the next game using nothing but transition goals. They lost game 5 with 2 goals coming in transition.

This doesn’t even get into how often we’re neutered offensively just by teams employing the trap against us. Leafs have lost 4/5 series under Sheldon in the exact same manner. For f***s sake if the Leafs change anything it has to be who’s behind the bench.
