People all over seem to like Spencer Carbery and his potential. Who are the top candidates for NHL coach, GM jobs?

A worry with this is Carbery was in charge of the powerplay, and the PPs struggles in the playoffs are well documented. Keeping Nylander off PP1 was a dumb decision, and if he will continue with that going forward I don't want him.

Struggles that have existed for 3 PP coaches now? And each time the Leafs are at or near the top in the regular season in PP running much of the same system?

Perhaps it is not the coaches and the system and more the players not able to execute things.

Even just watching the game yesterday, there were times when there was some space for Matthews and he fumbled a pass that should have easily been received clean. Had he, there would have been a great shot on net that vintage Matthews would be able to bury but instead he needed to reload only for him to do it again a few seconds later. He hasn't looked 100% at any point this year.

As for Nylander on the 2nd unit... I actually don't hate it for him. There are times when I think he makes sense on the top unit and other times when I feel like he doesn't get the puck enough on the top unit. Only thing that may have been good to try was getting JT on there with him and perhaps give him a little bit more freedom to try things beyond just being the garbage man in front.

Not saying Carbery is the guy or anything, but I wouldn't judge him negatively for his PP work. Especially since our PP was clicking much better in the first series than at any point in the past too.

Since Keefe is likely being replaced, who do you guys prefer? Of course it might depend on whose the GM.

Joel Q would be nice but with the background stuff and it being a PR mess, unlikely
Laviolette has mixed opinions but I don't mind him honestly.
No thanks to Tippett
Boudreau is interesting. Treated poorly in Vancouver but he can coach. Huge Leafs fan too. His playoff history isn't good but I mean we've had a veteran coach and a young coach be awful in the post season so it doesn't really matter now. He's also a good motivator and this team could use that.

We could go young again, but my qualifications would be good with systems, adjustments, and motivation. Keefe was good with the first part, not so good with the other 2.

Someone who’s a proper tactician and doesn’t get their lunch handed to them every f***ing playoff series. Babcock got beat by Cassidy back to back years and Keefe got out coached every year and the same way every time. f***s sake find someone who is proactive, not reactive.

I still think that any talk of a new coach is premature while Dubas is GM.

I don't believe dubas has the guts to fire Keefe.
I believe the Convo, will go something like this:

MLSE: ok shanny, we want a new coach in place, so give dubas a 3 yr contract only if he fires keefe
Shanny: Hey dubie I have a Brand new 3 yr contract for ya
Dubas: fantastic!
Shanny: one catch, MLSE wants you to fire keefe in order to get the new contract
Dubas: why? He’s a great coach. I’m not firing him
Shanny: am I deactivating one electronic card key or 2?
Dubas: I guess 2 !

lol i'm not understanding your silly logic

if the top of the MLSE chain wants Keefe fired, then they will make sure Keefe is fired

they don't have to wait for a GM way below them to do it

you make it sound like the sub-ordinates have more authority than management above them

that isn't how the pecking order works my friend ;)

Dubas can easily go to Keefe and tell him that the guys up top want a new coach... it's as easy as that, why are we complicating things

Crawford will actually be interesting.
Someone who coached AM back in the days. Might actually be someone that can get through to AM and MM.
Won with a talented roster so he knows how to handle ego. Also the man who had the balls to sit The Great One in a shoot out. Think he has the balls to sit JT too.
Bruce will be interesting, great guy but not sure how he will react to coaching the Leafs with the current players. Like how will the boys respond to him since he hadn’t won anything and was pretty much forced out by his old team.
Gallant will be interesting bc he can handle egos in the dressing room but will the guys listen and follow him.
At last I think Horachek will be interesting, lol.

I really think Crawford might just be the guy for the job.
But whoever is the coach, they need to hire Roberts to be their trainer and Mental Coach.

would a new coach even make a difference? how many have we been through now? 2nd with this core but in general.
Im not saying Keefe should stay because he shouldn't.
cant even bring in a hardass because our players will become disinterested
the core is just rotten. I dont want to gut all 4 but might be so rotten that all 4 will never work here

Yeah, Dubas doesn't have the power you think he does.

There's this guy named Babcock. Has anyone heard of him? Hasn't coached much lately. He might be interesting, his credentials and history shows he has NHL experience. Maybe he might be coaxed into coaching again.

Agreed.

4 Has to be split up. Obviously not Nylander.

1.Marner HAS be traded on anything remotely of a decent return.
11M to bobble pucks, fall down, get pushed off pucks in 95% of battles.

COME TF ONNNN

2.Matthews if he doesn't want to sign a team friendly or has a desire to go back to the states.
Move him.

3.JT hard to move, and he will probably not want to, but if anything is there, incase him and the wife want to try to raise kids in a warmer city or something. But he is still a solid battler in front of the net. Slow but solid. Not worth his 11M

I'd be laughing if that happens cause that means Keefe and Dubas will be sent packing in a blaze of shame.

Also means Marner and Matthews will be split up.
