Bruce Boudreau - Good coach. He has basically been in the exact same spot we're in now with a core who hasn't lived up to expectations, then finally winning the cup.

Peter Laviolette - Good coach.

Rick Dudley as president and Mike Futa as GM would work for me. As far as a coach I’m not sure even the style of coach I would ask for next
I'm just curious, why Futa? He always gets brought up in GM circles but never actually gets hired. There's gotta be a reason for it.

Futa strikes me as a guy whose got a lot of friends in the media who like to throw his name out there every time there's a job vacancy.

He's been linked to GM positions every offseason for the last decade and has never made the cut -which should be telling

An Overview Of NHL Head Coaching Candidates

May 10, 2023 at 4:00 pm CDT | by Ethan Hetu 8 Comments

With the NHL Draft Lottery behind us and the second round fully underway, it is an appropriate time to provide an overview of the current crop of candidates for the NHL’s head coaching vacancies. The Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames, Columbus Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, and Washington Capitals are all without head coaches.

These vacancies each present their own challenges and opportunities. Washington, New York, and Calgary are teams with talented veteran cores and the desire to compete immediately, while Columbus and Anaheim are clubs with top 2023 draft picks and some exciting young players. With an eye to these vacancies and any vacancies still to come, here’s a look at the current crop of NHL head coaching candidates.

Do we have an internal option?

People all over seem to like Spencer Carbery and his potential. Who are the top candidates for NHL coach, GM jobs?

Spencer Carbery, Toronto Maple Leafs assistant coach

The 41-year-old is one of the buzziest names on the coaching circuit -- and that's even before he landed in Toronto, center of the hockey media universe. A few respondents said to monitor Carbery as an option for the Capitals should they make a change. Carbery is thought highly of in the Caps organization after three years leading its top minor league affiliate, the Hershey Bears. He has been a quick riser after winning ECHL Coach of the Year (2014) and AHL Coach of the Year (2021). Washington wanted to keep him on, but Carbery took an assistant job with the Maple Leafs in 2021. Since Carbery took over running the power play, Toronto has the league's second-best man-up unit (behind Edmonton).

A worry with this is Carbery was in charge of the powerplay, and the PPs struggles in the playoffs are well documented. Keeping Nylander off PP1 was a dumb decision, and if he will continue with that going forward I don't want him.

I'd be SHOCKED if Keefe isn't fired.
Dubas wont fire him.
If Keefe is gone, so is Dubas.
and if Keefe and Dubas are gone, so is Shanny.

with major contracts to Matthews, Marner, Nylander needing firming up, there isnt time for a new GM. IMO.

Any coach that will put the players in their place if needed to.

Keefe apologizing to Mickey Mouse Marner was the writing on the wall for this core years back.

A real NHL coach. Keefe was an amateur

Depends on who the GM is. If its Dubas he'll replace him with another controllable lackey.

I always felt like Dubas or someone asked him to apologize. Keefe at times shows he can be tough but always walk a fine line like he’s afraid to really speak his mind.
