You brought up a good point that I overlooked.

Who is making the decisions regarding the players? GM or the Coach.
Lets say Dubas stays at GM and fires Keefe and bring in a new coach. Should the coach at least gets a chance to talk to the players before Dubas deciding who stays and who goes?
Ever watch Moneyball? If hockey is any like baseball it’s the coach/manage’s decision…….

Patrick Roy on the bench please.
That’s a interesting suggestion, former Hab great would go over like a led balloon here, but hey Dryden was accepted………

I don't believe you can challenge non penalty calls.
i think someone mentioned there is a rule that you can challenge a goal that should have resulted in a stoppage of play ...a penalty is technically a stoppage of play, since the offending team had the puck.

Gallant might be the best of the available coaches with NHL experience. He can't seem to last anywhere though so there are huge red flags. I loved his work with Vegas a few years back.

ZERO interest in Laviolette. I don't know why anyone would have interest in him. Bruce Boudreau just doesn't seem like long-term coach option either... but he loves Toronto.

Andrew Brunette could probably be someone I'd poach. Doing well with Ruff in New Jersey, I think he'd take a head coach job unless promised a job after Ruff.

Our best bet would be to identify good up and coming coaches from other NHL teams, or perhaps promote one of the assistant coaches like Cadbery or maybe even Malhotra. There are so many options across the leagues that it's hard to know as fans.

It's easy to know imo: Andrew Brunette. Coached the Panthers to the Presidents trophy with amazing underlying numbers. Then he goes to New Jersey and helps them have one of the biggest turn arounds. Lindy Ruff is coming back so he'll leave for a promotion. Only concern is he had a DUI and idk how MLSE will view that.

Didn't he just take over Quenneville and then Florida got ousted in the first round?

But yeah he definitely seems like someone that could do well. A lot of NHL and now experience coaching.

I truly believe that Dubas has been extended. The delay of the announcement is that they are interviewing potential coaches and will announce both at the same time, with Shanahan present at the press conference. As who it might be the coach, hopefully not a rookie coach like Keefe when he took over.

hire barry trotz as our GM first
let him handle the job
shanahan missed the opportunity
he is a moron. he must
And now I'm picturing them turning the team over to a Discord chat room full of Leaf fans with one of those voting programs attached. That would be the definition of scitzo...

Nashville hired Trotz already.

That tells me my hunch that Keefe spent most of this year coming up with strategies specifically for Tampa Bay and Boston and ignored any possibility that they'd play anyone else was likely correct. They were "surprised" by Florida because they expected to get Boston, and Keefe needs months to come up with an effective strategy (which is one of many many problems with him).
shanahan missed the opportunity.
who's available ?
mark hunter ?

GTA or the UK
Andrew Brunette is a super intriguing option.

I'd be keeping a very close eye on what's happening in Pittsburgh - if Mike Sullivan shakes loose, he's your guy.

FUN fact.

3 of the remaining 4 coaches are all new to their team and all are veteran coaches.

Quenville the only guy that sticks out to me as a similar quality coach but he has the cloud hanging over him.

We need a proven winner...someone who's won at least 1 cup & knows what it takes. Stop with the experiments.

Nothing good comes from Shanahan and other people’s wives, just ask Craig Janney about the morale fortitude of the Leaf president……….

How many cups did Cooper have before he won one? Same for Barry Trotz? Or Paul Maurice? You have to start somewhere and there are plenty of good coaches that have not won a cup. How many does Rod Brind'Amour have? Peter DeBoer? Sometimes it takes time. Who cares.
