How many cups did Cooper have before he won one? Same for Barry Trotz? Or Paul Maurice? You have to start somewhere and there are plenty of good coaches that have not won a cup. How many does Rod Brind'Amour have? Peter DeBoer? Sometimes it takes time. Who cares.
Agreed. But why take more risks than we need to if a proven guy is available?

Quenville the only guy that sticks out to me as a similar quality coach but he has the cloud hanging over him.

Will anyone care for more than a week though? News cycle has moved on.. would get dragged out for a couple of days, he’ll have to blather about poor decisions, learning experience and do better going forward and then it’s done.

Is my guess.

Just hire the best guy available regardless of experience? Like sure if they have experience that's cool but it shouldn't stop us from just hiring who we think is that best.

Laviolette has been in the league for awhile and I don't think anyone will rush to hire him over someone like Carbery.

If he is sufficiently thoughtful and contrite in his return to the league I think he will fit in with many clubs. IIRC with him it was more like he didn't take any ownership of the situation starting with saying he didn't recall the meeting and then later on that he didn't understand what exactly had happened and just thought it was handled. You can still read the report online. 20-20 hindsight he should have thrown the Prez and GM under the bus right off the hop. I believe he didn't think he had to make excuses and found out the hard way this shit storm was reaching for everyone in the room.

not sure if it is true but I read somewhere that Joe Q is asking Bettman for reinstatement, would he be coming it TO?

Starting to warm-up to Quennville given who I see is available, which isn't much. At least Coach Q has experience maintaining quality relationships with star players.

No blow-hards like Mike Babcock
And No "I'm trying something new" either.

This teams needs to play more traditionally.

If any team is serious about winning they're trying to go after Quenneville and if any team is letting external factors/pressure influence their decision then they're either poor or going with someone else.

Joe Sacco I think would be a great target. Spent the past 9 years as an assistant coach with the Bruins.

Patrick Roy! He is infamous for ripping apart players who dont play with heart. Like duchene celebrating a goal while losing 7-1 lol. He would not tolerate marner or nylaner floating around and demands his star players to hit and fight when it gets chippy. He would be exactly what this team needs

Long winded reply to, I want anyone but Keefe.

You see year after year this team collapse in specular fashion, up 3-1 to lose in 7 games, getting whooped by a 8th seeded team, up 3-2 in a series and lose in 7, up 4-1 going into the 3rd and lose, granted that was not with the players on this team but that stench lingers over this franchise. What does everyone of those teams have in common? Fear... fear of losing. Fear ... that they are not good enough. Fear that they will be the person who is the guy who makes the "mistake" that decides their season. Where does that fear come from? it's IMO a pretty simple answer, this team lacks confidence because they lack control of the outcome. They individually skill their way to wins, they don't play their way to a win as a team. How do you get confidence, outside of being a sociopath ;). You do something over and over again until you master it.

Now think about this team and how many times we spring to a 2 or 3 goal lead on individual skill, only to allow the other team back into the game. How many times did this team actually look like they mastered the art of controlling the outcome. Now think about what that lack of control does to the players mindset? They have repeated, time over time, poor behaviors that allow the other team to think they have a chance. That has to stop. The Leaf players don't know one game from the next what box of chocolates they are going to be, this all comes from not mastering their game.

Long story short they need a coach that can establish an effective system that is repeatable game over game. A system that allows the Leafs to believe that they can control the game. Next you need a coach who is a tactician. Finally you need a coach who can manage the many privilege egos that comes with young superstars.

For me its:

1) Quenneville
2) Brunette
3) Gallant
4) Carbery
5) Boudreau
