with trotz the applicable player is kariya. the preds were about as good as they have been with kariya. so....
my take on green is the caps (coach.gm) will decide to use his skating and skill to its best value....yes I know for the half a season he is healthy....or they will trade him during the off season.

I think if they want to play offense at a high level with ovechkin and backstrom, they will keep green. if they trade green, they will have decided to trap and counter attack.

Strongly disagree. Whether they keep Green or not is about his worth as a player, his potential UFA status and his trade value. Moving him isn't necessarily some offensively crippling move. There are matters of degree in how aggressive a system is and it could be that his instincts aren't trusted.

It primarily should be about long-term planning. Green staying is a two-way street and he could potentially force their hand (another reason why a GM needs to be in place ASAP). If he fits their vision, fine, extend him. If he doesn't then move him. They could also extend him and evaluate as they go. That might be the best move in the short- and long-term depending on the terms.

Whether it's Trotz or Torts or whoever I think there's very little chance that they'll actively revert back into being a passive, dump-and-chase team.

Not to change the subject here but is anyone actually seeing Torts as a viable candidate? I mean, I find the guys press conferences hilarious, but in no way, shape, or form would I want him as a coach in Washington.

I don't think Trotz is the perfect candidate because of his lack of playoff success but I like the fact that he had a long-term coaching job and would demand respect from certain players on our team. The effort level of some of the players on the team is an absolute joke.

Looks like Trotz might be our guy....

On the topic of Barry Trotz, teams still must ask permission of the Preds to talk to the former coach...until July 1st.

While David Poile wouldn't comment, can confirm that the Washington Capitals have been in communication with Trotz.

Key to conversations with Caps Pres Dick Patrick is ensuring Trotz will wait until a new GM is in place with Caps before taking any job.

my point has been that if the new regime is going to use green to his best skills and for production to his level of cap hit, they will extend him. if not, green will walk for nothing after the season and should be traded this off season to prevent that.

I don't think hiring trotz means that green wont be able tto play his game. to the contrary.

From what I've seen from Bylsma recently with Pittsburgh and Team USA, I want nothing to do with him.

IMO that's a backwards way to think about it because there's no certainly that letting Green play to his strengths will end up being worth what he may command. That's the question ultimately.

Given that Shero came out of the Nashville organization, I've got to think he's got an edge with Trotz. Trotz said in another interview that communication and a relationship with the GM is important and he'll have that established already with Shero.

I don't like Pittsburgh's team defenses at all. You can say what you want about the personnel and Fleury but that's a team that hasn't been tight for years.

What about Trotz and Patrick though? I guess Trotz was in the minors back then, but there's still probably some relationship at least.

I think I solidly prefer him to Bylsma, but neither of them has a .gif where they punch Ville Leino on the bench, so I don't know.

Bylsma would win a bunch of regular season games and you wouldn't have to worry about missing the playoffs. I don't know about the postseason though. The more I think about it the more I regret the Bruce firing. He was going to find a job fast and now his team is up 3-2 on a potential championship team.

Don't want Bylsma either, he may be a good players coach but I don't think thats what this team needs. Also he seems to show an inability to adapt or alter his game plan in the playoffs, especially recently

Was Shero the GM of their AHL team, as Fenton is now? If so, that's almost the same situation in reverse.
He may have been but that wouldn't have been his sole responsibilities. Plus it was eight years in the same org. vs. three for Patrick-Trotz (with two of those three years when Trotz was just a lowly AHL assistant).

@Buccigross: Source: "lots of dissension in the locker room during the playoffs towards him (Blysma). Arguing in meetings, etc. 99.98% he's gone"

Bylsma can go to Vancouver. Losing Trotz to PIT would suck.

True. You never know who's more friendly with whom on a personal level though, and at least the basic relationship is something.

On second thought, I don't think anyone is trying to be personal friends with Dick Patrick.

Why would anyone want Byslma. Oates part duex.

He can't win with the Pens roster, what is he gonna do with ours?

No. I am fine with Trotz

I'd prefer Bylsma to Trotz, but having Pittsburgh looming in the weeds to scoop up Trotz essentially makes it an all-in play on Trotz. Hopefully the GM position can be locked up soon so a move can be made as soon as we know what's happening with Bylsma (and possibly McLellan).
