Blashill and Desjardins will be facing each other tonight in the AHL playoffs.

Griffins vs Stars

It seems to appear there is interest in Blashill, but Holland is pissed and doesn't want to let anyone talk to him.

‏@DarrenDreger: Haven't scoured twitter...maybe this is out there. Washington, Florida and Carolina have all contacted Barry Trotz.

With Trotz's history w/ the franchise, I think this will be the man behind the bench when the season opens up in a few months....

Was listening to the NHL Network channel on XM the other day. I forget what show it was or the guy's name who was speaking but he had an interesting take on Tampa Bay firing Boucher. His theory is that Tampa started feeling the pressure when Cooper started interviewing and gaining league interest and they didn't want him to leave the organization and get nothing in return. They decided to then relieve Boucher of his duties to keep Cooper in the organization. I thought that was an interesting way to look at things and it just shows how much they valued Cooper at the time. If the rumor of McPhee wanting him and Patrick wanting Oates is true, Patrick should be fired too for being stupid

From all accounts this all seems to be true and probably a reason why we are going to change the structure and most likely nudge Patricks scrub arse out of there.

The main boards says Detroit has granted teams permission to talk to Tom Renney, who's an assistant coach there. Any interest?

Personally I'd love to have Trotz. Don't know how he'd mesh with Ovechkin though.

No problem with Trotz. He's well respected and demands a lot.

When he had Kariya, they were top 10 on offense. He will fix this d quick too

While I'm certainly not a "must have prior NHL HC experience, rawr!" hardliner, I'm not thrilled with hiring out of the assistant coaching ranks at the moment.

The whole reason he would be considered is that he has many years of NHL head-coaching experience.

Another good article from Katie, this time on Trotz, with some interesting quotes from him.

http://m.washingtonpost.com/blogs/c...ls-coaching-vacancy-eager-for-next-challenge/

Notably, Katie says he's interested in the job, he isn't expecting a quick process (so sounds like he's willing to wait out a GM search), and that "he doesn't view himself as having a set style of play, though, and believes systems should be tailored to make the best use of players."

I've played a number of different systems based on our personnel but I like the personnel to dictate the strength.

In Nashville, our strength was in net and defense. So our team would take the personality of the top players and that was most often on the back end.

I'm ready. Sign me up for Trotz.

That does lead me to be a little more open to Trotz, but those teams still had a hell of a lot more blue line talent than the Capitals do. Having a top four of Weber, Suter, Hamhuis, and Timonen enables you to do a lot more with your forwards without having to worry about your back end. I still think I'd wait on seeing what happens with McLellan and Bylsma before pouncing on Trotz, and possibly hire Dineen over Trotz anyway. All things considered, I do prefer Trotz to the last couple coaches the Capitals have hired, obviously.

“As coach you’re in a partnership with the players. They are their own brands and you’ve got to get them to be their best and at the same time they’ve got to work as a collective group to try and accomplish something special.â€
He's already been indoctrinated. Welcome, Barry.

That was my main takeaway, and it's fantastic news. Get a GM in place by Memorial Day and start talking to Barry in earnest that same day.
