Enzo (Denver)

Hi Katie!Any truth to the rumor that the Rangers are looking to deal Del Zotto to Colorado for some offense?

Katie Strang (3:24 PM)

Don't believe internet rumors when it comes to trades, and really, I wouldn't mess with a good thing in Colorado if I'm the Avs, but I've been saying for a long time that I think the Rangers would part with Del Zotto

http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/49291

Enzo the baker lives in Denver? Godfather movie. Hospital scene.

Strang brings up buying out Nash. There is no cap recapture with Nash if he retires. Then she brings cap recapture with Richards which is a major issue.

Enver Lisin for Lauri Korpikoski is one of the worst trades Sather ever made. That was a weird situation. Either Tortorella didn't like him or something happened because that trade made no sense. The player was a free agent and he didn't sign a big deal with the Coyotes. It wasn't a money issue. Lisin was a nice kid and Tortorella ate him up. Remember when Tortorella sat Lisin the entire game on the bench in 09-10. He sat on the bench in his uniform the entire game. The Rangers didn't qualify Lisin the following summer.

It was rumored that Korpikoski was threatening to go to the KHL if they didn't pay him what he wanted.

Wasn't Korpikoski a contract issue? IIRC (I probably don't) he refused to sign a bridge deal so Sather dealt him.

pretty spot on.

korpedo wasnt happy with his role or his minutes. torts was giving him the torts treatment. i remember him saying in an interview that he wasnt sure what his role was. he wanted to play more or wanted out. he did have an offer with the k and was making noises about leaving for russia.

he was traded shortly after that hit the media.

at the time, lisin as playing well in phoenix and was considered one of the fastest skaters in the league. initially, the trade was lauded as a win/win for both teams. the kid had talent but he lacked confidence and never grasped the whole torts system thing. he was a purely offensive forward.

when lisin first arrived in ny, he quickly became one of the most popular new players. the press loved his personality, his interviews were terrific and his blazing speed even made torts drool initially. he got first line minutes right out of the box.

slowly he fell out of favor with torts for his general lack of finishing chances and his inability to play the game the way torts demanded. he was considered a player with skills but no hockey iq.

after that, a cycle of playing less minutes, playing 4th line minutes, healthy scratches and eventually not playing at all ended his nyr career. torts pretty much killed the kid. that benching example rb cited was particularly bad. lisin became a torts whipping boy that whole season.

nah he was just dealt for Lisin straight up which was obviously terrible

Good thing Is Werek for Lindberg is looking good if he develops as it looks like he can.

So Maloney and Sather are even

The Morris for Prucha, Dawes , Kalinin was just fine too. Even and then Morris resigned in Phoenix eventually

Korpikoski signed a 2 year contract with PHX for $1.4M in 2009 2 year bridge contract. It wasn't a money issue.

Losing Korpi sucked but why is this even an issue? Bad trade. Torts got several players removed. It happens from coach to coach.

The Rangers players called Lisin "Ringo".

The last time I saw coach dress a player and not play him a single second was Steve Kasper in Boston. He did that to Cam Neely and Kevin Stevens.

I believe one game the Rangers were carrying 6 defensemen and Kasparaitis was injured in warmup and they player 13 forwards and 5 d-men, and Colton Orr didn't see the ice.

An idea:

We get Orpik this offseason.

Can see MDZ being traded to Colorado for someone like ROR. Richards bought out. Girardi not resigned.

ROR takes 2nd or 3rd line C position. Step goes up to 1st line. Orpik was almost a Ranger last time around. Pitt has many D they could call up. They don't have much cap space to retain players. They chose to retain Letang.

We need crease clearer. McIlrath call up next year. Allen called up after MDZ traded at deadline this year.

McDonough-Orpik
Staal-McIlrath
Moore-Stralman

Reason I pencil in McIlrath at 2nd pairing is so he can learn with Staal. Otherwise he deserves 3rd pairing minutes.

EDM are in the same position as Quebec / Colorado around the mid-90s.

A young Mats Sundin for an over the hill Wendell Clarke.

Owen Nolan for Sandis Ozolinsh.

The Roy trade, what was it, like Kovalenko and Rucinsky for Roy.

Then a couple of UFA signings.

EDM got all the offensive punch they need upfront and then some, a PPQB but then they have only one relevant top 4 D (Petry). They gotta make the moves they make in the future count.

If you want any of the core young talent they have you gotta give up a piece they really want. Don't think MDZ+ is quite enough, while Staal/McD makes all the sense in the world.

Like I've said for a long time:
1. It's not good asset management to have 4 valuble LDs (Staal, McD, MDZ and Moore).

Outside these guys, we have Falk who can fill in as 6 D and Allen who is pretty close.

Skjei look like a potential 6th (L)D.

2. We could definitely use help up front and on the PP.

3. We really need a PPQB with a right shot and more offensive punch from the blueline.

EDM could potentially be a good trading partner.

Something like:
1. Staal, Boyle and Skjei for Hall and 2nd round pick.

Depthchart:
LW - Hall, Hagelin, Kreider, Miller, Pyatt
C - Stepan, Richards, Brass, Moore, Lindberg
RW - Nash, Cally, Zucc, Dorsett, Fast, Hrivik
LD - McD, MDZ, Moore, Falk, Allen
RD - Stralman, Girardi, McI

2. We deal forwards for a good younger RH PPQB that can grow into the position.

It's not done in October, but I think the above restructuring in principle is what needs to take place.

Staal isn't going anywhere. He's either a Ranger or a Hurricane. Many on here think he's going to the Hurricane's regardless. No team will up the world for a rental. Staal isn't just a risk to leave if he's traded anywhere other than the Cane's, he's a guarantee.

Girardi is regressing, his value is diminished. He's gonna stay a Ranger until the end of the season.

McD just resigned. Moore is young and cheap and developing. Stralman has more value on this team than he does being traded.

Odd man out is MDZ. Not Staal.

Orpik as UFA makes most sense. Gives us the luxury of retaining someone like Staal if Staal wants to go to Carolina. Gives us a crease clearing defenseman in place of Girardi who's not regressing as fast.

To sign Orpik we need cap space - Richards will be bought out regardless.

Therefore we will need a new C to replace him somewhere on the roster. MDZ needs to yield a C. Brassard isn't showing the promise he showed last year. He might be a perpetual 3rd line C where ever he goes. Means we need a 1 or 2 c, depending on Stepan's development.

Hall is a LW.

Miller should be a C on this team to prime him for when we part ways with Richie. He's clearly viewed as a winger by AV. Lindberg will eventually be our 3c, meaning Brassard is likely going to be out of the picture too.

Brassard + MDZ for a 2 or 1 c at the deadline seems logical.

staal stays a ranger for sure.. girardi will not be traded and will be resigned for a lot less then what people think he will get.. doubt he runs.. i see front loaded deal for him and callahan..

brassard is obv tradable but hes a guy that has all the skill in the world.. one thing about him is he needs a bruiser or a physical player to play with him to give him space.. callahan is an ideal winger for him..

mdz is the obv dman that will be moved.. mcd and moore have already been establishing themselves as pp dman or on there way.. think everyone stays for a while unless amazing package appears..

people forget this team is still very raw and young.. average age is under 25 no need to blow it up, move pieces.. allow growth and team unity..

i honestly think they try to retain everyone and with everyone healthy and our youth we shouldn't struggle.. we're a top 5 team with our lineup healthy and firing at all cylinders

Hagelin - Richards - Nash
Kreider - Stephan - Callahan
Brassard/Pouliot - Miller - Zucc/Fast/Kristo
Pyatt/Mashinter/Haley - Boyle - Dorsett

Not taking trades into consideration. All internal solution with a healthy line up.

All slots with rotating roles are for matchups and performance. Teams that are tougher to play against should be taken into account, and the softer perimeter players should be benched unless a guy is on a hot streak.

Tough guys dressed accordingly, same goes for games versus faster skill teams. Pouliot, Brassard, Zucc, and Fast were useful in games versus Det, and Wsh and the Isles. All teams that don't make you pay a price for going into the slot, so in those types of games where skating and puck movement is necessary on the bottom 6 lines those guys can play.

Against teams that play tougher physical hockey, like a Mtl, Tor, Bos, LA, Stl, Ana, Van, Clb, the Rangers should ice a lineup that can push back physically.

eberle is not leaving edmonton via trade.

yak quite possibly is. i offer girardi and mdz straight up.

as for mcilrath, i fully accept that the organization adores him, at one time they loved manny malhotra, brendl, lundmark, al montoya, hugh jessiman, grachev, korpedo and initially bobby sanguinetti. and a few others im sure ive forgotten.

Difference being those guys never really progressed as planned..... pretty sure MNGMT thinks D.M is right on schedule

Move MDZ, use the friendship with Maloney and get Rundblad. His value can't be high at this point.

I'd be interested in runs lad but they need more than just him for del zotto

I meant two deals. Can't see the Yotes have any interest in Del Zotto and the Rangers needs a guy who can score if/when MDZ gets moved, someone we won't find in Phoenix.

In what universe would Colorado trade O'Reilly for Del Zotto?

Don't get either response.

1) Why a face palm? He's a UFA. Nearly became a Ranger last go around. Fits what we need. Sather likes him.

2) In the universe where they asked for either him or Stepan to start talks when they were shopping him last season? And the Rangers balked at both. He's being paid ridiculously for someone who is an average 2c. In that universe.... I guess....
