$33 million.

Tavares 0 goals, 1 assist
Matthews 0 goals, 2 assists (no points after game two)
Marner 0 goals, 3 assists.

This is against Florida. Abysmal performances by the three highest paid players on the team. These are supposed to be the leaders.

I get rid of Keefe, Kerfoot, Murray and Bunting. Extend Matthews and Nylander. If O’Rielly is willing to take a hometown discount I extend him.

Ideally, JT tbh but it's the hardest one to move. Yes you'd lose offense probably but you might get a better suited, 2 way centre+winger combo.
Main reason I don’t want to trade JT is because I think he take a big hometown discount on his next deal

Get rid of Sheldon Keefe for sure. I guess his assistants too but with the play Spencer Carbery keeps getting in the media I might look at replacing Keefe as head coach from within, similar to how the Raptors canned Casey and replaced him with his assistant coach in Nurse.

I like Shanahan and I like the job Dubas did, sue me. They should stay, well only if Dubas fires Keefe.

Don't trade Rielly, Nylander, or Matthews. Rielly and Nylander showed up in the playoffs (and Willy in the regular season too). Matthews had a good first round but he couldn't produce against Florida. Mike Stephens said Matthews was labouring so maybe we'll find out he's more injured than we believe, which would explain his piss poor series.

Marner is an interesting case. I'd definitely sniff around and see what's what. Gotta be very delicate with a trade however, can't rush it like the Kadri deal. Hell I'm not even that opposed to keeping him. He was good to passable round one, and this series his final two games, while too little too late, was at least a good response after a putrid Game 3.

A shakeup is 100% needed in any event. Firing Sheldon is the most painless and likely has a greater impact on the roster than simply moving one of the core players.
I think Matthews has peaked and for such a big guy has become very fragile physically and mentally. Change of scenery might help, still a very skilled player should get a pretty good return for him. Bettman would probably love it if they swung him to Arizona to protect his baby! Let him play in the field house see if that better soots his needs!

If I'm the GM, I'm sending a memo to the league: Bidding on Matthews & Marner starts now. Best offers by the start of the draft get them. I don't even care about a specific return, just get the best possible value for now. Matthews would probably be a more futures based deal. Marner would be more of a hockey trade, perhaps Philly makes a splash and something around Konecny + Provorov for Marner.

I'm talking to Tavares, and seeing what can be done in terms of a trade. Retain salary if needed. He's had that loser stink ever since he was drafted by the Isles. Maybe to Vancouver in a deal around Miller?

Nylander can stay for now. Might as well try him as a C and see what happens. Talk extension in-season, if his ask is crazy he's gone too.

I'd offer Schenn and ROR fair contracts to stay, along with letters on the front of their jerseys to form the new leadership group with Rielly. If they don't want to stay so be it, I certainly wouldn't blame them.

Unfortunately the UFA market is a barren wasteland. Try to trade for some unwanted players like Seattle has done, and win with depth instead of overpaid floaters. There is a brief window of opportunity with having a starting goalie signed for $800k
Schenner definitely, with an A!

We had a mediocre NHL coach blessed with elite talent who individually can pull games out of the fire in the regular season with a slight burst in effort and focus. As troubling as his in-game strategy was, his distinct lack of subtlety in dealing with officiating was worse often going into petulant rages that I'm sure influenced no one. Gone.
Our GM also blessed with inheriting someone else's elite talent went with duct tape and dumpster diving to fix the goaltending for these pivotal seasons. One was a physical wreck as expected (Murray). The other was supposed to be an uneven performer and also turned out to be physically fragile as well (Samsonov). The default became an unpolished greenhorn who fortunately wasn't a disaster but very much could have been. The GM is a serial offender with questionable goaltending decisions (Sparks, Mrazek). The GM traded away draft picks left and right to make this team a proper contender. They weren't a proper contender, they got handled fairly easily by a younger more robust team that openly taunted them in victory. It was an embarrassing loss. They went 1-5 at home in the 2023 NHL playoffs.

Marner or Nylander to another team in the division like Detroit starts with a couple of pieces from the untouchables list and then some of the other stuff. That would be the framework. If that seems unreasonable, don’t ask.
Mitch could enjoy having ginger asked with Mickey Redmond

I want a new gm and coach
If we can't trade the core I want a gm that knows how to build a team .

GM iam not to sure who is out there

We need a coach that knows systems
Laviolette

Marner - get a couple of good players for him.
Keefe - like him, but I think he is either not good for this group or he is just not good enough coach yet.
Tavares - also like him, but something with him doesn't work.
Kerfoot, Holl - UFAs gone
Murray - Robidas

Re-sign ROR, Schenn and Sammy.

Bring in Knies, Robertson, Timmins, McMann and anyone else who is willing to play hard and mean.

If there is a way to get rid of JT, then him.

If not him, then Keefe. Just think a different voice is needed.

Time and time again this core group has shown they are incapable of getting it done when it counts and it is time to move on from some of the pieces. Enough is enough, I don't know what other franchises continues to keep the exact same core year after year and continues to accept failure.

Dubas - Would hope he is brought back as GM because this is his mess, and frankly I do not know who we would replace him with. If he is back, he needs to stop letting his personal devotion or relationships with the core from getting in the way, and actually make some trades to shake up the team. Bargain bin hunting every year during free agency and spending all our assets every year at the TDL for potential rentals is not going to change the fact that this core is incapable of getting it done. He's changed the goalies, the d core, the bottom 6, the top 6 wingers, the coach, the assistant coaches, heck we've even changed our PA announcers and still no shows from the majority of the core.

Keefe - Not opposed to keeping him, but would like to explore what is out there. Someone, who has experience winning in the playoffs and a cup before, that has some authority (excluding Quenneville) or finding our own Brind'amour. Someone that will hold our star players accountable and not coddle them when they play like crap.

Marner - Trade him, time to move on. He cannot handle the pressure of being in Toronto, and we cannot win with a soft winger despite his skillset and defensive play. Him and his team talked a big game during the contract negotiations, and now can't back it up when it counts. His cap space then needs to be used to either for a top pairing RHD, or preferably at least 2 reliable guys for our top 6. Would love to acquire a young player with a lot of potential as part of a package for Marner (kind of similar to the SGA trade for basketball fans, which was a homerun for OKC). Don't know who that player would be.

Matthews - Honestly, would keep him, unless we have any indication that he wants to leave via free agency. Keep Nylander as well.

JT- Our captain that is supposed to lead by example, instead is just dragging us down, just tough to watch out there. Unfortunately, we are stuck with him.

Rielly - Thought he was bad in the regular season, but really stepped his game up when we needed him during the playoffs. That is a true example of a great leader.

Woll - Looked great as well.

I would bring back Sammy, Kampf, Schenn and potentially O'Rielly/Accicari. Also, adding more physicality and proven playoff performers and trading away some of the core should be a point of focus this off season. Would love to go after someone like Bertuzzi, but not sure if he will be too expensive.

Funny how everyone is loving nylander but where was he in round 1? Matthews was our MVP in round 1 while nylander was no where to be found.

Nylander was the MVP of round 2 and still only scored 2 goals in 5 games.

Keefe and Marner have to go. On the fence with Dubas and Matthews, there's good reasons to keep and get rid of both. Nylander and Rielly stay. Shanahan, eh, that's a purge upstairs when I think the shakeup should be mainly in the locker room.

It's weird how the softest guy on the team Nylander get's left off of this list with 2 goals and 1 assist.
Also Barkov got 1 goal and 2 assists, both assists last night and Tkachuk had 5 assists and no goals.

To Kings-
Auston Matthews

To Toronto-

2nd Overall Pick

To Ducks-
Mitch Marner
28th overall

I'd get rid of Keefe and Shannon should have been fired when he hired Babcock.
If we get Robertson and Knies into the lineup we'll finally have some left wingers and that should help a lot. Of course the stars stay.

Since I couldn't vote on the poll because if I tried to click on any of the options an ad would come up I'll do it here. Get rid of Dubas, Keefe, Matthews (who wants to leave anyway), and Marner. Let Holl, Bunting, and Kerfoot walk.

Trade Jarnkrok, Brodie. Keep Knies, Schenn, ROR, Acciari, Lafferty, Kampf, Lilly, McCabe. Robidas for Muzzin and Murray. Keep Woll and Sammy. Get rid of Tavares if you can (not likely).

I saved the best for last. Time for me to eat a little crow. The two guys on this team who I am the hardest on in the regular season, Reilly, and Willie, are playoff warriors you keep and make leaders on this team. Build around them and the people I said to keep above.

EDIT: Gio, time to retire.

First dumb trade proposals of the offseason.
Marner to the Caps for Wilson and Mantha. He can feed Ovi to the record.
Convince Tavares to go to Chicago, he can mentor Bedard and help them reach the cap floor. Take a pick or prospect.

Sign ROR, Acciari, Mayfield, Dumoulin, Bertuzzi

No Tavares gone?

No Tavares gone?
Sure, Knies and Tavares for nothing after convincing him to waive his NMC(not happening) he literally moved his family to Toronto recently.

That's how much of an anchor 2 years 22 mil is when Tavares is a 30 point player in 5on5.

I have had enough of this core.

As a fan, move Matthews and Marner are you getting equal players back? Probably not. Are you getting a 'package' back for those 2 that helps the team? Maybe, maybe not.

But, I'm ready for something different. If you move them and this team gets less total regular season points next year, so what, the year will be more interesting. If you move them and the package you get back makes the team BETTER next year, that is what fans want.

But keeping them? The entire regular season means nothing again, isn't intereting again, and each year that goes by the entire hockey season watching the Leafs in the regular season just gets less and less interesting and fun.

Ready for major changes to the core, whether that ends up being for better or worse next year.

I hope you don't run a business of any kind because you would fail miserably.

You don't trade them just for "something different."

That's how you become Buffalo, I have family members who were in diapers the last time Buffalo made the playoffs.

Beyond Matthews refusing an extension there is no good reason to trade him.
