Rielly especially.

Seriously? He has been a warrior every year. This year he was their best player by far.

They worked hard together and are astute enough to figure out with the right move/s it will work.
Well of course, but this is an opinion piece ;-)

Makes sense that no one wants to trade Nylander all of a sudden because he scored a goal tonight.

I have had enough of this core.

As a fan, move Matthews and Marner are you getting equal players back? Probably not. Are you getting a 'package' back for those 2 that helps the team? Maybe, maybe not.

But, I'm ready for something different. If you move them and this team gets less total regular season points next year, so what, the year will be more interesting. If you move them and the package you get back makes the team BETTER next year, that is what fans want.

But keeping them? The entire regular season means nothing again, isn't intereting again, and each year that goes by the entire hockey season watching the Leafs in the regular season just gets less and less interesting and fun.

Ready for major changes to the core, whether that ends up being for better or worse next year.

I can’t take fans that actually voted for Rielly and Nylander seriously.

Most likely trolls from Florida

Agreed.
Rebuild properly this time. Retool. Shed the BS players.

Get a real NHL coach

we don’t deserve a rebuild. look how everyone sold out last time the minute we had half decent prospects rather than sticking to it

Get rid of Sheldon Keefe for sure. I guess his assistants too but with the play Spencer Carbery keeps getting in the media I might look at replacing Keefe as head coach from within, similar to how the Raptors canned Casey and replaced him with his assistant coach in Nurse.

I like Shanahan and I like the job Dubas did, sue me. They should stay, well only if Dubas fires Keefe.

Don't trade Rielly, Nylander, or Matthews. Rielly and Nylander showed up in the playoffs (and Willy in the regular season too). Matthews had a good first round but he couldn't produce against Florida. Mike Stephens said Matthews was labouring so maybe we'll find out he's more injured than we believe, which would explain his piss poor series.

Marner is an interesting case. I'd definitely sniff around and see what's what. Gotta be very delicate with a trade however, can't rush it like the Kadri deal. Hell I'm not even that opposed to keeping him. He was good to passable round one, and this series his final two games, while too little too late, was at least a good response after a putrid Game 3.

A shakeup is 100% needed in any event. Firing Sheldon is the most painless and likely has a greater impact on the roster than simply moving one of the core players.

There is not a single option in this poll where I would be overly upset if that person was not back. This is simply because change is necessary at this point and I don't believe anyone on that list is essential going forward. Of course, I'm sure at least some of them will be back. I would add the following:

Shanahan: I would be very surprised if he is not back.

Dubas: I think a factor to consider here is whether Dubas being the GM could help or hurt the retention of the big names who will soon be free agents. This also depends on whether you want to retain those free agents or not. If you're going to make massive changes, you have to ask if Dubas is the guy you want making those deals. I lean towards no.

Keefe: It's kind of like Nick Nurse and the Raptors, where I change the coach if I'm running it back (which is what I think the Raptors are doing), but I'm okay keeping him if the roster will change dramatically. Of course, Nick Nurse had a far superior record. I don't think Keefe is a great coach or a terrible coach, somewhere in the middle right now. I expect him to be gone if Dubas stays.

Matthews: We cannot allow a Gaudreau situation. If he's not signed he has to be traded by July 1. Even besides that, his poor playoff showing (again), combined with a mediocre regular season by his standards, and frequent injuries, raise questions about how much we should commit to him long term.

Marner: I can't decide.

Nylander: Prefer to keep.

Rielly: I would have traded him before the new contract. He treated like a #1D but he is not that. He simply isn't great defensively, although I give credit for his offense this post-season. Even though I would have traded him before, I don't know if I would today.

I was going to add more, but this is complicated. I think you need to answer the big picture question first - where is this team going from here? Answer that, and it maps out the road forward and who stays, and who goes.

Keefe and I don't know...

It seems like you have to shake up a core piece. As much as everyone wants JT gone, he isn't leaving, it isn't an option. So it leaves us with Marner, Matthews and Nylander all who have NTC or NMC July 1.

Does trading 1 of those 3 make the Leafs better? Probably not, but it still feels like it needs to be done. I don't really envy the person that has to make this decision, definitely feels like a no win situation.

Do you guys get paid by f***ing Tavares?

Why is Tavares not in any option, he should be thrown away along with his shitty pajama before anyone else.

Tavares would be the first to go but he's got contractual NMC's that you can't mess with. Unless he plays ball, which he probably won't.

New GM, new veteran coach, Sign Meier, trade Marner for a youngish cost controlled D man, move Murray and take another run with Woll in net.

Ideally, JT tbh but it's the hardest one to move. Yes you'd lose offense probably but you might get a better suited, 2 way centre+winger combo.

If we're talking about a non Big 4, management, coaching, Matt Murray or UFA like Holl or Kerfoot piece, I'd try to get rid of T.J. Brodie. He's just going to get worse and worse and his contract is enough to get you a near impact player. He's been a solid soldier but with one year left he's on downward trajectory and it's time to go.

Marner

Marner (@9.5) for your 1st, your 2nd in a coming year, your best prospect and a middle six player, I’d even take a roster of picks for him like 1st, 2nd, 4th 6th…

You’re not getting something equal back except precious, precious cap space.

Rielly? Dude played his heart out. What the f***?!

Dubas has done all he can to put the team in a position to win - this isn’t really on him.

Holl, Kerfoot and a few other guys walk. I’d even let Sammy walk if he asks for too much.

Do something to get rid of Murray and shop Brodie - again, cap space…

We’re stuck with Johnny the friendly ghost until his deal ends but if someone will take him he can f*** off too.

Contracts aside I would get rid of Jt and trade Marner. Focus on defence with that cap. Marner is the most overrated player in the NHL. Keep AM and Willie.

Marner is the type of petulant child that when his NMC kicks in he just refuses to get traded, plays out his deal and walks as a UFA leaving the leafs holding their junk like idiots. Better to trade him asap
